Transcript

Really done this in a while and my favorite, it's good to be back. Live from the glass, Lewis coffee, skeptic employees Cafe Pavilion. Do you think it's a glass, all new terrific Tuesday edition of business pants, joined by our good game, Super Players? Sorry the data Queen and analysts whole Matt mcgarty. Yeah. I'm ready to win. Yeah, whatever it is. in today's ESG shaped alternative, meat basketball called March 19th 2024, the March Madness, good game Yeah, you know, we do have people who like listening in Australia does March Madness like that. They know, they know and honor of America's this is like their favorite betting tournament here in America. Every year, the college about basketball players, men's and women's play basketball against each other, March Madness, basketball tournament. That's good summary, last year. Everyone last year, did you really and that Yukon and that's how you redesigned remodeled your kitchen right? You want like 50,000 dollars Yukon, what a homer pick. I had a feeling. So in the past we played some very convoluted March sadness games. We called it where we pitted, yeah, corporations versus each other, but we've struggled with that because there's just so much the data. We rely on doesn't really change day to day. It doesn't even really change week to week, so we've shelled that format for an all new exciting format is exciting. Overselling it. Before we get to that our tournament, our March Madness, tournament or ESG, March Madness, Tournament is being sponsored by free flow analytics. The only ESG data platform to measure real board influence and diversity power gaps. That's right. It does do those things. I give that a 10. Aries already winning the game. All right. You were the real stars of this tournament? Yeah. All right. Yeah. No we're not. How do we play where the rules? Here we go. I've broken it into four, brackets, basically, representing for time, periods in the past year, I'm gonna call them quarters. Not sure, let's call the quarters or whatever you want to call them quarters. What do they call them regions East West? I think that what they call it in basketball terms, but what I've done is, I've taken all of the headlines that you two and Jesse, Jesse, the money Whisperer have rated basically a 10 or a nine like the highest rated, headlines from across the year. These are not random choices. These are the headlines that you people thought were so completely the goodest. Exactly right, thank you. so, We're, we're gonna start with our most recent bracket, that's our current spring 2024, and when I've done for this bracket is taking headlines from the past two weeks that you two have never graded. And you're just gonna tell me, Which headline is the good list? What's the best? What's the good? What's the goodies? All right? Head to head and if there's a tie, I'll break the tie. Here we go. That's way too much explanation. So wait. So what if Ari said, if we both agree that it's a good list it moves on to the next next round. Exactly nice. All right, so it's not really head-to-head. It's just sort of head-to-head, sort of Head to Head its head adjacent to head. Hoping there's gonna be some arguments here. Let's just start. Let's do it. Let's do it. Hold on. Let me drum roll you in so that we get build some suspense here. Let's do it. So excited. There we go. These are from the last two weeks. This is our first bracket. This is the spring 2024 bracket and exercise pill May soon offer the same benefits as a workout. Scientists say God or this is the first one versus Nestle. The food company faces investor Challenge from share action over healthy food targets, Well I'm out on pills. Yeah me too. This is okay. It's easy win for Nestle. So you like that was a top ranks win. Okay. So you don't like activist investor campaigns from Maggie. Loving Nelson Peltz but you do love it from share action, over healthy food, know, you're coming it to, I like it in contrast to instead of going for a walk. I'm just gonna go to, I'm gonna order the CVS, you know, whatever to my house. Talk to the muscles. Talk to me when there's a food pill until then, I'm not interested. There is a food pills. It's called a hamburger. You know why? I'm so stupid too much. The Obesity pill didn't surprise me, I never even thought of an exercise pill, I thought. Yeah. I never even. Yeah, come on. Have you watch Sci-Fi movies like oh I'm stupid. I had a friend who, what used to put those little electrodes on their stuff and like buzz themselves. Is that person still a friend that person was a friend, right up until they hit, but an electrode on their stomach. All right, next. Next contest, asbestos finally banned in the US after Decades of EPA efforts versus Olivia Rodrigo at a concert. She hands out free morning. After pills in Missouri, a state where abortions are illegal that's Olivia Rodrigo Those are two. I mean, is Olivia Rodrigo basically saying, like, isn't her like audience. Largely preteen girls. Absolutely. Well, I like to preteen. Yeah. They're not just pretty but it's all puberty. It's all puberty Alias. I'm just worried. Like, do they skew? You are they giving it to ten year? Olds is what I'm saying. Like you're getting a little creepy. Oh, 10 year olds don't tend to go to concerts by themselves. That's true. Their moms, all and Dad's. All yeah. There are there are people with children who get abortions, Matt. I'm just saying, I want to know what the population that received. It was generally women, there are a lot of women in the crowd. Is there any questions? Now, I'm gonna go with that one, too. Yeah, that's definitely the better of the two headlines well, because like, it's 2024, they just bestest. Like they just true. Yeah, I tell you. Can I tell you where this story overlaps our data and our own reporting is that we talked. It was that this week or last week about the horrible companies, run by either John C Malone or Greg McPhee. Yeah, we did. Yeah, so here. So here's what's already happening with Olivia, Rodrigo. According to recent reports is that Live Nation, who who, of course, sponsors are stupid tour has already is already pissed off and there are already trying to get her to stop doing this Live Nation. Run by Greg. McPhee their board is only 18%. Women representing only 6% female, Already telling her not to do this. This is the best headline because it basically shows how stupid the governance is. And All you had to do is hand out. One artist at hand out a morning after pill. That's all so control. Like bobbleheads that get handed out at events. Yeah, bobbleheads don't get anything pregnant. Well, that this is my new favorite slash Distributing to Hawaii. You should use our data, as these Greg, Buffet Malone companies, that that don't put women on the board. And when they do have no influence, this is why you should be using our data. the next contest the SEC is cracking down on investment advisors that falsely claimed to use AI versus Green hushing is on the rise as companies go. Silent on climate pledges green hushing, do we have everything a name? Yes we do. We do my name, it's not my name but but the green, hushing is actually a bit of a red herring anyway, right. Like we did a show last year that back when we did the market medium, right? Like or no woke data that we've done a bunch of shows in the past. How many shows if we don't? I mean, we too many shows and anyone ever in the history. I mean the fact that we have that many shows is absurd but we did a show where we we talked about climate restatements. Yeah. And that it was like equal to regular restatements but the fact that it happens. Now we're just calling it green hushing. Like it's happened for years and years and years. A target with laps. They would forget about it. They would just an A new one without hitting the old one as that green hushing. Well now probably companies are not even saying you know, the c word carbon. Oh. Dare you? I mean, that's ridiculous. I'm gonna vote the SEC coming down on. AI are what you SEC gonna do this? No, that's gonna do it knows anything about AI. She knows the most about AI that everybody else hates it. But is this even important? Do we need to know know? Look, this is falsely claiming AI. This is wasting. We already know. Understand they are, this is just, this is about names, right? Like they did the same thing with ESG where they basically said. If you have ESG in the name you have to show that you have do. Yes, G. This is them. Just saying the same exact thing which is if you say this is like an AI investment fund. You have to show you have to write down, some have at least one dude from Stanford like who dropped out of Stanford. How does this, how is this in AI fun? Like how was it run by AI? Because otherwise everyone every week we could put out a fun tomorrow and call it AI fund. And we should actually who's the winner here. Are you in agreement? Okay, no. I'm gonna go with green hushing just because no. It's the AI one. It's the SEC. I'm gonna break the tie. The good list one. Oh, Green. I am now you don't even like either of them, there's a terrible. I'm gonna the SEC going out there every anything is a win to me. Yeah, there it is. Next contest. Next contest extreme wealth as power must be regulated. 31 year old Eros is letting 50 strangers. Give her 27 million dollar Fortune away. And one of the reasons why I picked this story is that her money comes from a publicly traded company in Europe, be a SF, which is in our database, that's the first story. Second Story is Don Lemon. Says, Elon Musk is the most delicate snowflake he's ever interviewed. Yeah go ahead or sign me up for a rich person giving away her money. Oh having tried on, how to regulate No, no, not only should giving away but she's have. She's letting strangers. Give it away and and yes, she's calling out that there must be an inheritance tax. Right? Putting her money to, this shouldn't happen. Wait where I am? My position shouldn't happen. Let's try to change. How much is her Fortune? Did you say, 27 million dollars, 27 million dollars from her late billionaire grandmother. She has 27 million dollars, that's consideration. More important to the BASF. That sounds like a fortune to me. I mean it would be a fortune to me but you're up. We're not every single person is a Billionaire's. The biggest billionaires are, you know, they have some status the biggest billionaire in the world is that are no family, aren't they? The like wealthiest family on the USS more billionaires per capita than sure you're saying but we're talking about like their houses that go for 20 million dollars that other billionaires buy like candy. I don't know. You live in a reality. I don't think rni live in no. Just a fortune think about this. You said there are 50 strangers who are going to break up for 27 million dollar, fortune and give it away. They'll get less than a million dollars each to give it away. You can't even give that to like the boys and girls club and and have it make a difference anymore. I don't know. I'm not going with that one. I'm going with snowflake musk is what I'm going. What's your choice? Sorry, are you with their? It's, but you're not voting for us. It's just the transparent snowflake is I'm like, you know what, four questions and he basically was like, I don't have to do this interview, I just like CNN. If you watch it terrible, he just support that man and watch him. Although I, you know, these are the top two seeds in this bracket. I'm gonna have to go with Ari and this one, because a loser Ari, where Ari is right? Is a no one should vote for Elon Musk but also, I think this I like how this affects our data because we have so many of these nepo, baby eris's, and errors that are on the boards of current companies with outside influence and huge bank accounts. And I just like that this is kind of talking about that. Something like I don't talk about enough. I'm gonna say this, if you're one of the 50 that are giving it away, free float is available for accepting the 27 million dollars. Please. Are we on to the next bracket final game? In this bracket total energies, this is a Belgian company total. Energy sued over its responsibility for climate change. In Belgium's first ever climate action against the multinational company versus SEC. Approves scaled back, climate disclosure disclosure rules. Oh, Companies being sued by the government for what not for the government. I think it's like a class action. I think like, what we saw in Montana where the young people Okay, you have a farmer or I think it's, that's where it's starting. Farmer action. That has my vote. Okay. Matt you agree well seeing as the SEC disclosure rules are already on pause by a federal right being sued already being sued and it's a don't worry they've been pause it was a Coal Company I believe or a gas a gas company oil and gas company that sued them before the they even like released it they were already sued. So now that's on pause from a federal judge obviously. So you have to go with Belgium because it's like, they're thinking my not even, right? That's our spring 2024 bracket will revisit those headlines at our next show. So let's keep moving. Let's keep the show moving. Yeah, give me some music. Come on. Yeah. Moving on our next bracket, we're gonna go all the way back to our winter 2023 bracket, and remember, Matt. I don't know if you heard this part, but these are not randomly selected D. I selected the headlines that got the highest scores. So these are all all tens. Nothing below a nine. These were the ones that you guys determined were the good list in 2020 and 2023. The winter of that 23 23. We're going the last calendar last last year. Last March back. Okay. Yeah, these are the tens of the good game from last year. Yeah. First of all, let's start this bracket with our only automatic Buy in the tournament and this was a this was a headline that Ari and Jesse both gave perfect tense to her only buy in the whole tournament. Is this headline from last year, a record 10 million people tuned in for NCAA women's basketball final which was a record. So Jesse and Ari giving tens to promoting women sports as they should be. So that's our only automatic buy for the tournament. So let's call our first well, I had five, I had Five headlights. There we go. So not. So let's go to our first contest winter. 2023. 2 old headlines here. It's the first one. It's not just tiktok. French also warned against WhatsApp and Instagram, that's the person. Like, that's correct. So you remember when the battle against tiktok started, the French were screaming. Hey, we're gonna come after all of the social media and it's not tiktok. That's the first headline versus this one. Elon Musk tells BBC. That owning Twitter has been quite painful. Well, you Just because she just claimed, she can't vote. Yes, friend, she hates all my French headlines. I throw it at her. I know that you. Oh, man. I, you know, it'll be funny if you had to, you had me rescoring these. I wonder if I would still give them such. I was gonna do that but I thought that would be too laborious. So but just a verses. Yeah, go ahead. Yeah, I'm gonna go for the owning Twitter has been too painful. Oh, Matt, do you agree. It's been more painful for the rest of us. Well, seeing as the know, I don't agree. I'm going with the French one because they said that, it's what we've been saying for literally years. Yeah. That a fake public company. Led by a College Dropout, he's not a better alternative to China. It's just not. It's really it's astounding that. They're the only ones pointing this up. Matt? You're right about this one. Yeah, that's right. About that. Don't don't forget the French. Know really do with that. Honestly like is astounding that we're just being xenophobic racist going out for tiktok we should be going after all of them at you're right. You know I think the EU in general is slowly trying to chip away at big data on anything. It's fine. But they have nothing is landed a knockout blow. Of course. All right, the final contest in the winter. 22. 23 Brackett the first headline. This company is turning Chopsticks into Furniture, that's a stupid Jesse and Ari, love that one. Versus. Versus lorielle rolls out product impact labels in Canada. Remember that one where they actually put Matt. This was our idea that they stole they put on their labeling. Yeah. All the environmental impact of the product. That's cool. Yeah, I like that. Like that. You like that. Now here. Absolutely ridiculous. That is ridiculous. I'm gonna, I'm gonna go for the labeling. Yeah. Let's move on to our spring 2023 bracket. 2024. Where would the world be without? How could the ESG industry exists without us? I mean, I know. Henry. Fernandez CEO of msci is listening right now and he's just like thank God that suddenly you two, not only that, you two quit my company but thank God that you are providing the only media and the entire industry that's relevant. There's a lot of there's a little just thank God that someone's bringing back up Chopsticks used for furniture. That's really what it is. Let's get to it again. These are the highest scoring headlines from from last spring 2023. The first headline BNP pariba that's one of Matt's favorite companies from back in the day and financing for new oil and gas projects versus State Farm will no longer offer. New home insurance. Wow, I like this one. This is hard, this is Both you both went crazy. All right, I'm gonna go with State Farm. Yes, you gonna go with the correct answer? Why why are you both going for that one? Did you hear the Bell? The Bell said yes that's why that's it. That's the why no look the that fact that ensures are so far ahead ahead of climate risk that they're yeah, price, like markets are fully priced out like they're just leaving markets and governments are left suing, the insurers to beg them to come back, but also telling them they can't raise their premiums, just their premiums to adjust for climate change. It's just easier for them to pull out State Farm is doing what we said. Humans should do in Florida. Just fucking leave and they did it. They did it. So they're good headlines said new money, right? Yeah, new, that's why down? Yeah, alright, moving on next contest. Remember, we just talked about the North Face. North Face Company. Here's a old headline that got high schoolers The North Face Company doubles down on summer, of Pride, campaign, amid backlash from right Wingers. So that was during the whole Bud, Light thing. But North Face was like Foo were going. We're going forward versus FDA advisors vote unanimously in favor of over-the-counter, birth control pills, Can't compare those aren't really comparison, not my fault. Yeah, that's another jacket. Everybody should have access to birth control. All right. Well, okay, I guess you're saying the winner, that was our what number one season. Yeah, it seems like a number one seed. Yeah, okay, so moving on our last contest. Bring 2023, AI chatbot will replace human helpline workers at National eating disorder, Association. Do you remember that story? Yeah, that one was a joke though. I can't be the goodest headlines. Well you guys were cynical that week versus wait till you hear the other. The other headline that you guys gave the four five seed. Yeah, listen to this other one that you guys both loved a pizza company is letting customers buy now and pay when they're dead. Are you go first, though? I'm trying to remember. I feel like since that headline there have been way more, AI chatbot disturbing thing. Yeah. So I can no longer go with that one. Okay, it's company. And Matt, I think it's all hey, when you're dead. I mean, that's the best. That's how the 27 million by that Eris is gonna get spent on pizzas and making alternative meat tastier with Jeff Bezos. All right, so Let's wrap up the contest with our fall winter 2023. 2024 bracket know. They were saying make sure the seeds are right. Here we go. First contest, British prime, minister Rishi sunak announces plan to gradually banned smoking. Oh ding dong announced a plan vs Kaiser Permanente. Permanente union strike mounting largest US Healthcare walkout in Decatur. Oh I remember that one. Oh I love that. Yeah that was 70,000 people people. Yeah. That one over. What do you think? Yeah. That's I mean like that's what Nissan to launch only all electric car models in Europe. Starting now that's did. They actually models versus Gen Z approved clothing. Giant, The North Face is offering customers 20% off if they take a racial inclusion. Course, that was like last week that happened. Yeah. Well that's the wind. That's what winter 2024 bracket. Yeah, I'm gonna go with this one is easy Nissan. Yeah, let's go. Hmm. I like the Nissan. The future is now because they're not because the thing I think we loved about this one is they're not like making fake plans just like we're done. We're done like from now on from now for that's it. It's only and I don't care why this is happening. Yeah I think so. This is from ESG today and I think that I think that yeah I think that that that's the there's no pledge or promise, I think that's all they're releasing and in Europe, but I love the idea of people like desperately trying to get 20% off of North Face jacket. Well, but I like yeah hours, it wasn't. It like a four-hour course or something too. It was not small. What I like too is that all the anti-woke? People got all upset and what they wanted to ban The North Face. But they forgot that they were already upset over the summer when they were supporting Pride like, yeah, I already forgot that so they don't have their boycott colander boycott calendars. Like, they're not like well made, but you know what? I, I think I think North Face is going to be out early in this tournament. All across all seeds, it's gonna be the electric vehicles. Yeah, you gotta get in and it's a Nissan for that. And finally, our final contest and in the first round bracket here, try and try and is a tree or try. He blames poor oversight for Disney's problems and its push for board seats. We love that because that's what we try to do here. We try to evaluate director performance, that's the first headline on second headline. Second headline, is millionaire banking boss. That's Standard Chartered CEO. Bill Winter's says, ESG investing is good for business, if that makes me woke. Yeah, that's right. These are two good ones too. That's a great one. I mean, Oh man, I don't know Nelson Peltz. And then he came out with That report that was what 100 pages long. Yeah. His wife, his white paper charts. Are you allowed to call PowerPoint presentation? A white paper, is that sure it was on white. If you printed it to be on white paper, by the way, Nelson pellets also in the news today to this morning, for, for corroborating, something that we wondered about, Matt during the proxy countdown last week, we were wondering is the restore. The magic campaign doesn't smell like Maga. Is it a coated reference to Maga? And he came out today, saying that he would, yes for Trump this year, despite his fake apology in 2020 after the January 6th Insurrection where he was like, I'm sorry I voted ever voted for Trump, he's not gonna vote for him again in 2024. So this guy is a complete mess, you call that from a mile away. So I'm going to go with the other one. What was the other one? The best quotes? From a CEO Nelson belts is right to talk about. Like it's the bore Disney has a board failing, right? Because this is right here, has problems. I applaud him for that, the only thing I upload them but it the it's problematic. When the guy saying it puts his son on the Wendy's board and then they suck and then he like it's like everywhere. He goes it just the governance sucks so I'm not sure. Exactly. Not only that. But the Wall Street Journal has another report out yesterday claiming that his the pelts sons who are now taking over slowly taking over the fund. They suck so much that everyone else is leaving the phone. Yeah, as though I got to go with the other one because they can't support Nelson in any way. Which means, all right. What is that mean? Can you read out? What our Elite eight? Do it really have to it's not nobody wants to hear this. What we'll do here was all gather all the results and in two weeks when the good game returns because the March Madness Tournament, Here in America. It lasts for several weeks, doesn't it? I think that the March mad to turn it. The final is in April, right? Yeah, I think the first Finals April 8th is when they play the final game. So we'll revisit this next in two weeks, and we'll pick a, we're gonna pick a winner, we're gonna have winning headline in the last year, I'm gonna have you to, I'm gonna put these winners against each other and we'll, we'll get to somehow get look. I know people are waiting for the winner to give us updates on some stuff. You know, I'll try to Pepper in some updates that what we're what we're trying to achieve here, Matt, would you probably don't understand? Even though you're one of the co-founders of the company is that we're trying we're trying to develop a new way to talk about these issues about the, about what goes on in ESG. What goes on in corporate governance. We've done everyone's hooked. We're trying. We're trying. Everyone's Edition. After two weeks, we'll be back to finish this up. Hazelnut Rallis and are the data Queen. We are free float until then you're just gonna have to wait to find out who the big winner. We'll be back on Friday with the wrap of the week. And on Thursday, we're actually talking about the oldest trade in the history of Trades, which is just Now, we're talking about McCormick and their upcoming AGM until then, goodbye.
Data as of Oct 14, 2026
