Transcript

Life from the last day, the hottest month in human history, which is true. That's a true thing. What a life for a living? It's Damian free edition of business pants, featuring Jesse the money whisper and me your analyst whole mattress. Cardi, that's what we're going with analysts. Yeah, it has to be. I mean, it's a little, it's great. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I do have that. That's true. How did we know that it was just gonna, it's your brand, my building here. Come buy our products. I'm a jerk. all right, today in our Oily fans satellite called July 31st, 2023. A top five. And a top five. We got two times sold it hard. All right. Are you ready for this? Yeah. Thing. first up is, Me, I'm gonna start going backwards, I'm gonna go backwards from five. These are the big stories over the weekend. Number five, big disclosure related news over the weekend. Here's the headline upset Hindu Sikh apology from Baskin-Robbins for non-disclosure of beef, in ice cream. I already know what it's gonna be. It's ice cream. It is gelatin quote, Rocky Road, contain gelatin, but the source of gelatin was not mentioned under the ingredients on the packages or boxes and a spokesperson for a national Hindu Society, contacted Baskin-Robbins and the coordinator, a customer relations coordinator responded, the gelatin and rocky road, is both poor sign and beef source First of all. Usually what is what's Poor Side? Yeah. Can we stop know you? Usually it's not sparkly. It's been from horse Hooves. They said gelatin. So now you have me confused now, wouldn't that be equine, not poor sign is pig, but I didn't know, I didn't know. There was a source in pigs, but did you know that the word poor sign was even at that? Why don't we see that more headlines? Poor sign, there's a poor sign shortage. I want that more Yeah. Okay I just love the fact. What I like about this is while the conservatives in this country are actively trying to destroy disclosure. There are massive groups of people. In fact, Hindus represent 1.2 billion people in the world. Massive groups that just want to know simple things. Like did you put a cow in this in my ice cream? Like because they were like eating ice cream like they can't be Cohen look. But of course there is. So that's my number five, this is fun. It's absurd is what it is. Number four An update from 200 years ago. Something we missed. Something we missed. A return of cargo carrying sail ships. In the era of AI. The biggest displacement to supply chains might be sailboats. I love everything about this story, actually. The story covers a ship called the ducer, which I assume is my bad Dutch pronunciation. It can carry 70, tons of cargo and 12. Passengers in a previous life. She transported buildings supplies from Dutch in German coasts like back and forth and actually set sale on his first commercial Voyage under a company called Eco Clipper because now we've rebranded sailboats as ecoboats because they're woke, they used wind power, woke wind power. They're actually hoping to build a fleet of they literally called this 25 wind, powered cargo ship. Oh goodness, they don't call him sailboats. They call him wind powered cargo ship. It's the most ridiculous thing, false. It's not false, it's ridiculous is what it is. And I love everything about it. You and it says in the article, it says, quote utilizing the latest design technology. I think that means sales, the latest in sales, that's what they mean. They'll be 10 times larger than the duker is currently, and they're looking to cost 9 million euros each although they had to cop to in the article. The downside of sailboat technology, even the most modern sailboat technology. Because it would take 70 days to sell sale from China to Europe where I container ship. Does it in 30 to 40 days, And a container ship can move 20,000 containers or 210,000 tons. Where this can only do 70, tons and has 70, cubic meters of cargo space. But I do like the fact that like the newest thing is, when powered ships from the 18th, that's amazing. I love this. This is good. Would you shop more at Amazon? If you knew that I was gonna say it was Amazon, does not seem like they're gonna be the prime client for this. Can you imagine Prime shipping? I would like they're doing 70 days. Can you imagine though, if Amazon switched entirely to sailboats imagine on A ridiculous. It's like, you can get All over later and that saves that's like the green deal. Imagine if there was a 70 days later. Well they're not like They don't like ship it from China, the day you order it, they haven't in the warehouse. I just like the idea that like, you could literally have right now. The ocean is basically flooded with container ships, bringing shit, all over the world. I would love an ocean of, like, people, like stranded in the middle because there's no wind, like, just waiting for and then are there even enough people that know how to sail, to operate these? That they're probably not, but they would have to send you a notification like Amazon, you know, get that email. It's like your shipment delayed due to lack of wind. I love that. I would love that notification every day. That was my number four story on the weekend, hasn't Advanced 25 wind powered cargo ships. Number three in my top five list over the weekend. This is pure dystopia. Here's Derek. Here's the headline. Palantir has built an AI Fortress that is unmatched and the stock is set to store 54% as new Industrial Revolution. Begins some analysts blowhards said palantir is the AI play of the future. I don't know what palantir is. Okay. So palantir is a Peter teal joint. It it is basically its first Incarnation was used big data to with law enforcement to figure out how many black people were like they should put in jail, more or less. They would use it for like big data. Profiling of people criminals it was like Minority Report. Yeah like that. But these are the guys who are going there, predicting are going to Corner the AI Market eventually. So I pulled some data on them. First here is palantir's AI principles. They actually said, in their about us, we designed technology to help institutions protect Liberty, that's one of their things Liberty. AI principle number five. Okay, this is number five. Keep AI responsible accountable and oriented towards humans. Then they said, quote generally speaking. AI is both effective and most defensible when employed to assist and enhance human execution and decision making rather than replace it. They also said, AI must be acknowledged as a heuristic and the impact of AI should be. An elevating Humanity, not undermining endangering, or replacing it, okay? But what I keyed in on is the name of the principal is keep AI, responsible and accountable. These are the humans at palantir AI who are holding AI accountable and responsible, okay? Volunteer is a publicly traded company. They have three classes of shares, a b and F shares. F is in go. F yourself everywhere else because a shares get one vote per share B shares. Get 10 per share, but that wasn't enough for the founders. The founders gave themself class. F sharp which are actually different for every proposal that they have to vote on but amounts to 901.926 votes per share. 911926 votes. It was like, 49.999%. Yeah. And here are the three most influential directors. According to freefloat Analytics, Peter Thiel 36% influence, Alex karp, 32% influence. He's a co-founder and Steve Cohen. 26% influence. Also a co-founder. So it's basically three guys. So AI is accountable to three guys. Three guys, with a long track record of hating everybody, I'm just like a imagining them sitting around a table. Drafting up. They like are all so drafting up there. Voter rights and being like, Oh, I'm really hoping that table was on a wind powered cargo ship. Carrying gelatin. That's worth it. That's an old thing that's true though. So palantir if you're watching this balance here and you probably are terrified class Foo shares, it's the first time I've ever seen. You share 9001.926 votes for sure. I don't think you gave yourself. That's not enough, you might need to go 900 92.3 shares. My number two story, the big news in boomerangs over the weekend. Former Disney Executives return as advisors to Chief Bob Iger. So you hadn't joined us yet but Kevin Maher. Kev doll Meyer and Tom Staggs were both at Disney. They got passed over for Bob chapek as CEO and they both left now. Kev doll. We calm Kev doll because he's so attractive. We actually had a working theory in the past shows that Bob Iger passed over Kevin Maher because he was more attractive than Bob, Bob. Iger, it was a working Theory. We don't have any governance data to suggest that but Kevin Mayer was younger, the younger more attractive. Just Googled him. Yeah. Is he hot? Well, let's put him in Hot Chat 3000 and find out. He'll mayor actually went on to be the CEO of tiktok. And the CEO of company bite dance. He lasted three months because then the Trump Administration proposed a ban on tiktok and he was like, F this. I didn't get if you shares here. I'm out and they started a company called candle media, but now they're back. They're back, which is sparking questions about succession planning. Sure. They're basically back supposedly to advise on how to sell off, all of Disney to actually make it work. But now there's a theory that maybe they're on the succession plan again. Teasing investors, I'm finally in my top five. My number one story over the weekend is just Elon Musk. And how little he cares for your laws. Are you ready for this? Here, they're two headlines this weekend. This one is the Lesser red one. Elon Musk is bringing Tesla showrooms to Native American tribal land to get around local car dealership laws. So there are laws in the states. Protecting dealerships. Those laws are pretty stupid. They stopped direct to Consumer. It's like some make believe thing mostly. There's a lot of politicians who owned car dealerships? Sure. Yes. I mean like and like in local politics. It's like car dealers and insurance salespeople. That's like you know the boards of everything and not like who becomes politicians musk is actually. He is taking advantage of the fact that Native American lands. Since we stole all the lands, the little that's remaining. They can gamble and sell tobacco and Tesla's. So, Tesla is the tobacco of cars. Oh my God. That's right. Here's the other one with starlink, Elon Musk satellite. Dominance is Raising Global alarms. Here's what struck me about the yeah, that face is that pretty much sums it up. Here's musk's Here's my takeaway from musk reading these headlines this weekend. He has a very deep love and I never noticed this before he loves unregulated everything. Think about it. Tesla is now targeting tribal lands in this country to sell direct to Consumer. He wants to go to places that are unregulated by the federal government. He's gotten to outer space, he's got starlink in SpaceX, he bought Twitter, which is protected as a platform and he's basically treating as unregulated space. He was doing brain implants. That's there's not really regulations about implanting shit and monkey brains yet so that problem and he is one big accomplishment with the boring tunnel was digging a tunnel that had no safety mechanisms flaunted every day, they didn't follow any safety guidelines. And it's an accomplishment. That was his accomplishment. Elon Musk. Congrats to you finding every unregulated space, you can find and live in it. That's all I got. For my top five. I'm gonna play you in for Utah. 5, are you ready? Yes, all right. Here is the music. You can't hear. Don't dance, you can't. All right, this is the money whisper top five guys. All right, minor in no particular order. No, ferc takes a big step to get more clean energy on us grid. So this weekend Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved. A sweeping set of reforms for order 2023. Oh, they approve these. Yes, this isn't like an re like some day. Yeah, I really chose articles. That happened things, that happened this week things that did actually. Yeah, so it is passed and it'll require us grid. Operators in utilities, undertake what chair Willie Phillips described as the largest and most significant set of interconnection reforms in the past, two decades. So what are they here? What? Yeah, so there will be more stranger. Well, let me just give you the background at the end of 2022. More than 2000, gigawatts worth of. Projects. Vast majority of them. Of course, when solar battery storage, we're seeking grid interconnection so they were just paused in limbo to put in perspective, one gigawatt, can power is enough energy to power 7500 homes. What the hell are you waiting on? So most stringent deadlines and financial penalties for energy product project developers. So part of it is that the developers don't secure their financing and their land rights before proposing projects, okay? So they get held up on that end and then all. So then on the other end, it's the grid operators and utilities that fail to stick to the timeline and actually integrate them that one I can buy. Like we got solar panels on our house and it ever so our basically rejected us the first time they they dictate all the terms. It used to be you just put solar panels on your house and you sell it back to the grid. Now they Lobby because they have a monopoly in Connecticut. They Lobby Connecticut lawmakers such that they will ever Source decides whether it's safe to put solar panels on. Yeah. So there are this article talked about that there are like owner a studies that they do probably specifically at a A prolonged. The the amount of time that it takes or just so that they have can avoid it, you're evade it, they can reject your application to put solar panels on your house which to me is insane. Like that's literally we'll see if it actually makes a difference but it's gonna impose penalties on good operators and you tell it like penalties. Okay. So there's that that could have been good but everybody's agreeing. That is a good first step. There's more that needs to be done but I don't know. A good feels pretty good. This is the right almost good list of the week, you know, he's absence. Yeah, yeah. And I got another one, that feels Good. So a judge, an Arkansas says Arkansas, cannot prosecute Librarians for carrying. Oh, After the state joined National push to restrict books. So the law signed in by Republican Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Earlier this year, set to take effect Tuesday, would have created a process to challenge Library, materials, District Judge, Timothy Brooks, paused the law from going into effect while because there are Library groups that are challenging it. It's in the court system. So he wanted to see if the first ride amendments would protect these Library groups. So you see what would happen? So it's pause, what kind of criminal. So like, is there if okay, so first of all for real yes one year so had the lawn not been halted. It would be a criminal offense, to knowingly, provide a minor with any material that's harmful which is includes nudity, sexual content, or the current Community standards, consider it unsuitable. So that means lgbtq current Community standards. Yes, yes. So, Exactly. So and and if a library in her Bookseller violates it you face up to one year in jail and a 2500 dollar fine. Can you imagine sending Librarians to jail for giving out libraries? Yeah. Damien Damien sad somewhere, right? Yeah, he's crying. Yeah. Well, I mean Less sad because it's paused but no. But like like Librarians are not the problem. Like it's not like the librarian is not. Maybe I should direct this to Sarah. How can you Sanders, Sarah? The librarian's not a drug dealer. They're not just like pointing kids to this one area with like a big red. I got these books and I got these books. This one has a penis in it, like it's this one has a person of color as the main character. That is what would be considered. Well, not, that would be Community standard, all right, so I don't know how I don't, this isn't feel good-ish, the fact that this was ever a thing. Okay, feel bad, correct. But at least there's one judge. That's like, I'm gonna pause this and see what happened to pause because otherwise on Tuesday, and that has these stories in their lives Library, it just closed. I need to behind like locked doors, and you'll have to get like a key to go just closed library's Barnes & Noble, just shut her everything, you know, like what's the point. Like, you know, like if if Arkansas doesn't want to read. There are already like last in the country in everything, just the Arkansas, Mississippi, just let them not read. That's what I say. There's clothes, I actually do I, but this fits in with my argument that like in Florida, if they want to ban everything, then why are you operating in Florida? Like, like companies can move from place to place. So you just recommend. No library is an Arkansas. I reckon if you want to go to one, just go over the board. It's like in a portion. Like you, if you want Women's Healthcare, you got to go over the Border because that's where women have health care. I like, but at some point, I guess why you keep fighting like nobody wants you to read. They don't want gay, people do exist. They don't want people of color to have a history. That's true or factual. Why what do we fighting? Why do people actually want this to be gone then like Move out of those places and go to places where they actually don't care, they care about like reading in truth. It drives me bananas. All right now I hate my life. Yeah make me hate it. Some more I will I will post. Pandemic. Revenge spending on travel has Royal Caribbean Up, 120% year-to-date. And why I picked this is because literally a week ago, maybe two, I covered a story about the Royal Caribbean being absolutely terrible for our environment. Yes, you did that. And, and if that wasn't enough, I created this really cute little graphic where I looked at, because I found out the Royal Caribbean was the worst performer in carbon Her our data that's out of the S&P, 500. So I was like, let me see what the worst. Ten are. All, but one of them were for travel and Leisure but three out of those 10 are Cruise Lines, it's Royal Caribbean Carnival and Norwegian. Yeah. So hello, what are we doing? And then and then as I was doing this, I read another headline. Which is that cruises are increasingly adopting, the strategy of budget Airlines, so you pay for everything. So you're not even gonna be able to Gorge yourself on your like room temp, chicken, fingers, and fries, and wash it down with your sugary Daiquiris, like you're gonna, what is the appeal? What is? Well, you don't you don't see where this is going, which is wind powered ships eventually to cut back on all be able to have those crazy slides and stuff. Those are way too heavy. Oh sure. You know you slide from the top of the sail, like a pirate. You like take the knife and you slide down it. The Royal Caribbean, actually, all of the crews boards are some of the worst in our data. In fact, looking at Royal Caribbean Cruises right now. Their team batting average is 236. Yeah. So awful, we do batting averages this, this segment is brought to you by a free float, analytics.com go there and get this because it's free. We do batting averages for every single company and it includes earnings, TSR shareholder returns, carbon and controversial business activity. Just those four elements for every director and then we can wait those Elements by how powerful each director is on Royal Caribbean Cruises. The. Board in its entirety is horrible. In fact, it has for carbon intensity to your point, the lowest performers in the entire database that we have and it has some of the lowest performers for earnings TSR controversies overall. I don't know. Why do we keep electing them? Like, why do they have jobs? All right, yeah, exactly. Thank you. You basically just got me ranty. That's all you did. oh, well, you probably won't care about this one, but it might get you ranty, this one's kind of just a Passover, but Must continue to stir the pot. He restores Kanye West's Twitter account. Oh, eight months band. Was shocked by that. No, I mean, I'm not shocked, but like he loves doing this. He loves just deciding who kind of cannot this was supposed to be something that was like unregulated, and he's just like deciding who can and cannot didn't he say? I mean, they didn't say he had a permanent ban anyway, right? No. But at least with Trump, who was banned, he did a poll and asked people and 8% voted in favour of reinstating him, but no pole with Kanye, just put him back on. Yeah. That that I mean, good news is no one's on Twitter or X or whatever the hell it's called anymore because it's stupid. Yes, true. All right. And lastly, this is I like last no surprise. This one, this one we already know this just supports our data and all of that there was a study that says gender speaks louder than words at work. So coke will is a global non-profit that research is bias in the workplace. Terrible name, surveyed over. I get it, I get it but it doesn't it sound like a weird? Impotence drugs. That's even better. All right, unsurprising. Okay, they surveyed 5,000 full-time employees in order to understand gender basis and obviously unsurprisingly, they found gender matters. Wow, particularly women of color Left, Behind trans Prof. Journals have the most microaggressions and men are still winning. So wait, why you telling me this? What what is this? This is a story of the weekend. I mean it's the gender matters. It's the study that came out. It just reinforces what we see the story in our data. From a New Zealand bird over from it, came out over the weekend. That's that's what we're ending. Yeah that story and which gender matters well I I can't say that that was the most inspiring way to end the show, but that's what we got today. Those are your top five and your top five news over the weekend. We are free float. This show was brought to you by free, float, analytics.com. Just go there and it's fun. When you're done going there, you should go, right this show. And like, send it to somebody. We had Sean cast on last week, a representative from Illinois and people love that interview. I don't know why go back and listen to that interview. I mean, I know what we did a great job, but go back and listen to that. Otherwise we'll be back on Wednesday with a real Damien Raul's here for woke Wednesday. Until then, Dubai.
