Live. From the angry center from the business. End of Maggie Smith's Financial Times. It's your daily dose of generic brand Biz nuggets, Emma. You know what generic brand is. You know what that is? Of course I do. Okay, fine. Get over it joined. As always by eccentric. M. Alerting and magnetic. Matt Mascari I'm woeful and doe full. Oh today still full in our. I Can't Believe It's Not Bloomberg bag of nuggets called January 12th. 2022 Damion does covid Emma does Amazon and Matt does CEOs, Melody. Can you tell? I forgot to write that section before? Yes. No. Well, if you didn't say that, I wouldn't have it. I was just thought you were You were doing a bit, I'm gonna do covid for you all. I got a bunch of covid, shit. My crazy wife decided to hop on a plane and it made me all riled up. although Matt kind of talked me down because Matt's wife is a doctor and Now I, if I could, I'm speaking only to Matt's wife right now, who I know. Yeah, would never listen, she's not listening. Hi. Courtney. If I could, I would rewrite a lot of my stories today because I I feel like I have a different understanding of the world because of your Brilliance, that's it. And the story and thanks, you know, thanks for the invitation on your family vacation. Hey brilliant. That I don't know any translating her go. Let's do it. I got a bunch of covid sections. The first one is on testing. Here we go. Testing Google is supplying full-time staff with rapid covid-19 tests. While contractors must wait for slower mailing results. There you go, I love. Yeah, Google's Cadre of temps contractors and external workers known internally as tvcs. I don't like that, I don't like that. What is that actually stand. They make up half of the companies work for us. The work they employ a 120,000 people. A full half, are these contractors, it's pretty mind blowing. We don't talk about it enough, I know we have before but it's pretty mind blowing. They typically earn less than their full-time colleagues and they miss out on many perks like paid vacation time. That seems like a pretty good perk in 2022. Paid vacations like right, I thought that was like a bare minimum. Unlike full-timers. They also do not receive stock options as part of the conversation and are not able to request request, things like an extra computer monitor through the companies internal system I just did that story. So I could say Cadre and aren't able to request things like an extra computer monitor. I find this so fast and I would pay a lot of money to see that list. How detail does it get yes to a wireless mouse and Oreo cookies, but no to wireless headphones and double stuffed Oreo cookies, where do you draw the magical? If you line Google. I really want to know this like where is that if you line to these Temps? We'll just see, you know, a free float. You're not allowed to have an extra monitor either. Damn, it's funny things I have two. So, where is extra beginning. Anyways, and has six Emma has six. Yeah, but you can't have the, my next long winded story on testing, why some workers are getting all the covid tests. They need in the absence of a national effort, to make coronavirus testing widely available, a number of big American companies ramped up their own making Tess available for select group of workers. So Google, as we said, they send their full-time employees free at home test. Black hair black rock has a weird one. They offer Telehealth supervision for employees to take rapid tests for international travel. Supervised. Yeah, they watched them, they swapped their own nose. Okay. All right and a JP Morgan Chase. Oh, deeper deeper JP Morgan. Chase Bankers can order at home rapid tests from an internal company site probably like Pringles. At home tests. Scratchy toilet paper. Like you think all of the anything you can order internally from a company is basically a vending machine everything on the item. So the tests have become the latest example of how a two of our tool to battle the pandemic can exacerbate social and economic divide but what what is that? I hear it's the business Round Table to the rescue. The already redefine. The purpose of a corporation to promote an economy that serves all Americans. Each of our stakeholders is essential. They said we commit to deliver value to all of them. For the future success of our companies, our communities, and our country. Okay, the reason why I point them out is all those companies. I just said, are all in the Business Roundtable. Free test for all, they're gonna shout from The Mountaintop oil painting next to their boardroom, overlooking Central Park. That was my obscure oil painting. Nice, segue, nice. You got in there deep. This is a win-win for the round table hitting 40% of their new commitments. Remember they had five new commitments, one of them was investing in their employees, including providing important benefits and other with support in the communities in which we worked. So, I'm guessing, they're just about to announce this free testing thing, right? I mean, they got it coming? No, no, they committed to deliver value not tests, so you okay? But to order when you go on the internal website, order the value option and that's because usual, I'm confused. And now it's my turn. Thank God. Last year Amazon employee Pat McGaw its capital M lowercase C capital g a h. McGaw is this person's name? All right. Near after being told that he was one of the worst. Performing members on his Amazon team. Pat's incredibly reasonable response. What was it about his performance that Amazon considered. So so far, I think Pat new well, you would think that Amazon and Pat would, but apparently not so much because there's no company. Better equipped to answer this question then, Amazon, because of their notorious employee ranking system, all right? Yeah. Amazon uses a literal formula to determine an employee's value. We can talk about the horrifying gamification of capitalism later but Pat can should have received a doctoral length thesis. Chock full of information regarding his performance metrics, right? And Pat received zilch actually I shouldn't say children, that's not true. He was told that he needed to learn how to anti quote create structure in ambiguous situations and to quote, Pat himself. What does that even mean, if it sounds like a fortune cookie, I very much agree with that. Option of Fortune Cookie. What? I think they deliver their performances that for the record. I don't want anything ambiguous about a fortune cookie. He's very like, all right. So poor Pat was giving the option of either Severance or submitting a 30-day performance plan. And considering the feedback, he was given sounds like a palm reading given by a lazy kick Pat went with Severance. However, Amazon is based in Washington state where companies are legally obligated to provide employees with their personal files. If requested when Amazon refused to give pad any real information about why his performance was rated so poorly. He was told that their ranking system wasn't a part of his personal employee file and therefore wasn't legally required to be revealed to him tricky. So that was last year around this time. It's now a year later and we have now entered the magazine Revenge era. And I'm saying about it, Pat will be testifying on an upcoming bill in front of Washington's legislature. That would require corporations to disclose all employee personal files, including detailed information about where they sit on internal rankings and why the bill gives business is 14 days to disclose personal files to employees, who request them, or they will face fines in addition to potential legal fees for the employee involved. And just to wrap this up, I would like to give Washington state. Senator Patty, Contreras, a shout out for introducing this bill last January. Thank you Patty for carrying about workers and Amazon. You know how I feel. We don't believe I'm with you Emma and I'm with you Pat, but I want to go on record here. I don't know if I want to see my personal file. I'm going to If I were you, I wouldn't either drooly slack, jawed, lazy, stupid. Um, I don't know who needs that. I just want to go on record and say, for that report, Emma's personal rating is three camels out of 1600. Okay? I'm I can with that, I think. If you don't know what that means, I'm not obligated not legally. I'm not gonna tell you later, I know what it means. Back to covid. This part of the covid is getting getting covid, okay? This part of getting remember I was a creative writing major. So that this is what this section is called getting like the sections are called. Yeah, they section of was called the testing. This one's called getting the next one's called helper. You went with getting over receiving myself. United. Airlines CEO says, 3,000 of its workers have contracted covid and one day alone, he said at Newark nearly 1/3 of our Workforce called out sick. That's CEO Scott Kirby today is your wife, that's why I picked this story to those who are out sick or isolating. We Wish You a speedy recovery. He said United is among multiple US carriers whacked by a recent surgeon. Omar Khan infections Nationwide which resulted in tens of thousands of flight cancellations across the industry during the holiday travel period. I only told you the story just to remind you that the truly important thing here is not to discourage herding people through the skies during a global pandemic, but to get them back to work. Herding people through the skies during a global pandemic. Although you know as Matt may be convinced me before the show, maybe it's fine. Maybe it's all. Okay. Maybe people should be hurling through the skies, I don't know. Yeah, I want to I want to put them on paper. Airplanes in Chuck. I wasn't present for this. Conversation. I would like to be filled in later. Thank you. And the other getting story here, Delta Airlines and Union Spar over isolation periods. For sick workers, Delta and a large flight attendance. Union are fighting about whether the company's new isolation policy for employees who test positive for the coronavirus puts workers and travelers at risk. The airlines Chief legal officer, sent a letter to the association of flight. Attendance CWA saying the unions pants were on fire, the union which represents nearly 50,000 flight attendant at 17 Airlines in a seeking to unionize. Delta flight, attendance responded. I know you are but what am I? The dispute concerns, Delta adherence to a recent change but the CDC which is shortened. The recommended isolation time to five days, right? For people who are vaccinated and who got the virus. This cdc's updated guidance was released after Delta, executive sent the agency a letter arguing that the previous 10-day. Isolation period, May significantly impact our Workforce and operations oopsies. I smell like business business roundtable's redefinition of the purpose of a corporation to promote an economy that serves all Americans. Oh my question. Mouthful, my question to the you guys, and the audience should this immediately, revoke Delta CEO, Ed bastian's Business Roundtable membership card and it's many perks. Like triple stuffed, Oreo cookies, no stop, no, no. Double is my mother's. On his vending machine, he chose the extra value option. I have one story for you today and really it's a story in our misleading headline minute. While I was gonna do this is featuring BFF of Damien mellody Hobson. Yes, here's the headline. CEOs. Should be allowed to speak. Out says Ariel's Hobson. Should be allowed to speak out clearly Hobsons power has gone directly to our head as if CEOs don't have enough power already. This is exactly what all those white board members have been worried about in the PWC board. Director surveys diversity as a political correct instrument gone. Wrong Hobson is the perfect case study she's out there saying there's some magic unicorn behind the curtain keeping her and her fellow CEOs from speaking out. Well are you outraged? Are you outraged about this? Not yet. Keep talking. Yeah well here's what happened in actually said okay the word soup that came out of her mouth. She was asked if she thought it was a quote, good idea if CEOs weighed in on political issues. And she said quote I don't think being CEO means I can't have an opinion about something and she went on to say quote having an opinion doesn't mean I'm right. There's truth with a capital T and Truth with a small team. Oh, I didn't know that. So A couple of things are interesting about this, I think is Melanie saying that we shouldn't have CEO fetishes. Just because they're rich, they're not necessarily right? Like I mean, every falling even deeper in love with Melody right now. I Feel Like You by the truth part of this I want. Yeah I don't think you know look Elon Musk is tweeted 16,500 times since 20. One by one way, too many. I went through one at a time, that's five years of twiddle. His stupid opinion. I'm pretty sure Melody might actually be saying for realsies. Elon can twit all he wants, but just pay attention to whether it's elon's truth. Or. You know. Truth capital. That's capital T truth and Elon laundry. Write a lowercase truth is that means it's raw. It's your personal truth. I we just CEOs are allowed to have their own personal truths and they're allowed to say them. It's your job to figure out whether it's, the capital T, or the lowercase team. It sounds like a lot of work deep. A lot of stuff going on in there. I'm a bit confused. That was the Headless. Let's get back to covid. This section is called Helping. Yes. So we have just to be clear. Testing, getting helping. Yeah, we have one more after helping here. This is the gerund our every float media. CVS and Walgreens just cut down. Paid sick. Leave for workers nearly two full years into the pandemic. In the middle of the Omicron surge. Major US companies are making moves to reduce paid leave for employees who test positive for covid-19. So CBS Walgreens Amazon, Delta Ikea, Kroger Walmart. And again, this reduction of benefits is directly tied to the cdc's decision to reduce isolation from 10 to 5 days. This same one that the Delta Executives were calling to ask for just putting out there. Okay, so Lowered. Isolation time, they said sweet less less paid less paid time for you. You got that you don't need the time. No, it's more than that. Here's the good news. This is actually about corporation's can really deliver on We quote we vow to act immediately whenever the opportunity shall arise that Jesus is presented to us with the golden opportunity to cut back on employee benefits. Amen and hell. Yeah. So help us God and all that shit. That's a reminder speaking tongues. I would only about half of us, hourly workers. Port having access to paid sick. Leave in the first place and only about 45% of those who contracted covid reported having paid sick leave. But what, what is that? I hear, it's the business Round Table to the rescue. Oh wait, I already made that obscured joke. Wait a minute, wait a minute. Yeah, if Tractor covid. Reported having paid sick, leave That for the majority people. Anyway, what do we care? Why do you care? Oh God. It's just socialists like get over it. And finally, in our show, it's not one of the gerunds of the day and one more Jerry. And yeah, I know, covid during the day punishing, Punishing, I like this back. My favorite. Quebec will impose a health tax on those still unvaccinated. Oh, so 10% of Quebec's adult population is unboxed for covid-19 the unvaccinated, however, make up half of all ICU beds in the Providence. And the province, Quebec's Premier said they will be taxed a significant amount for the Stray and they put on the Healthcare System. That's it. I just wanted to report that because it's the first thing all day that makes sense to me. Get him. Get him, get him. I'll take that. Can we do? We want to have a discussion segment or we want to just kill this? No, I got time. You got nothing but time. I know I work with you go shopping but yeah, I got Time. Come on. Well, I just like to point out how brilliant calling it attacks is rather than like a fine because I feel like if people like, because if you call it a people hate taxes taxes. It's not so much in Quebec, not in Canada, maybe not so much in Canada, but I think that there's still like a stigma around the word taxes to a fire America because I feel like you could find someone and be like, Oh, I'm paying a fine and I'm, you know, an unvaccinated Warrior and I'll take this fine or whatever, but if you get taxed that's, you know, government fringing on your rights right there. I agree with you in principal, but that's a very, like American Centric thought I, I will tell you repeatedly. I was repeatedly told by Canadians when I was there. When I lived there that how stupid Americans are, because we want fewer taxes, but yet, Paying so much out of our pocket to pay for all the benefits that there are already getting because of their higher taxes. And we're losing a shit ton of money because we're so stupid. Yeah, that would agree with them. Yes. They don't, they don't think of tax the same way. I think they think of as almost like a patriotic Duty, maybe I'm thinking maybe this is Canada, Freedom, subtly push it onto the American government, like take a take a page, you know what I really what I really yeah? Yeah, the real takeaway here. Is that only 10% of Quebec's population is on vaccinated? they just How they get that done? Did I bet they do discriminate? If you don't speak French though they probably won't even give you don't forget that out we reported this week I think that they all. So you have to get back into your backs car, to get weed and boost. So they're they're created I got I would have been vaccinated 65 times. What I really want to talk about though, I want to talk more, we go back to mellody Hobson, Yeah. Is the headline misleading because why would someone who would think that CEOs weren't allowed to speak out? That's my first question. And second of all I do, I know I annoyingly want to make this about the Business Roundtable because if we are in a new age of stakeholder capitalism, why would a CEO? All things? Political essentially would fall under those pillars of stakeholder capitalism. So why wouldn't a CEO address those topics readily? I don't. That's the part. I don't get well. That was the misleading part of the headline. So, the headline again, is CEOs, should be allowed to speak. Out says Ariel's Hobson, but the question she was asked, was not, should CEOs be allowed to speak out and she says, yes, the question she was asked, was, is it a good idea for CEOs, like Jamie dimon and they named Jamie Diamond? I think he named know, I don't remember who they named. He's Jamie Diamond was the first one. He's the only one she is it. A good idea for these CEOs to wait in on these political issues and the framing. Yeah. It was Bloomberg business like, you know, headline. Seemed to be like, is it a good idea for the business for that for the ship, for the business, for the shareholders, for the CEO, like whatever it was like an amorphous. Like it was basically what I took it as is is it a good idea for CEO that that a CEO weighs in on these things? Because it might hurt like money, like people with money, like the business people and like, you know, you let them like it's not, it wasn't a question about Pat mcgah. It was a question about like, you know, moneyed people and investors and corporate. Is it a good idea for the for the brand kind of thing? And she basically was answering, not that CEO should be allowed to speak out. She didn't say that at all in the edited version that I saw, I mean, there's some longer version, but that was the headline of the version that was there. Right? She said, I don't think being a CEO means, I can't have an opinion about something. It just, you know, my opinions, not always, right, right. Like there's that's the capital T and the small team She was very diplomatic about it in a way in a way that you only can be when you're the chair of Starbucks and a CEO of a company just like Obama. Because don't forget, Melody is a first. I mean she's the and I and I to be the first black female chair of an American corporation. I think is a big deal for sure but imagine how incredibly diplomatic she must be and must have had to have been to somehow rise to that position. So there's no way you get into a boardroom at any point, if you're like you fucking white guys, got this all wrong. Let's do it. Like it, all of us are notable I still think Matt I think I'm holding up from that somewhere, some like dorky ESG outfit out of Belgium or something. We'll get you there. Yes. Um, that'll that'll put on the resume, I guess. What, like, why I always go back. And I, this is, this is for the only fan in the audience that cares about the Business Roundtable. I always go back to this because a fan, because these people, the inevitably and invariably sit on the, either the board or the membership of the business around him, Jamie dimon as an example. So, why, why would this be an issue in the first? I just don't get like, why wouldn't they be speaking out? Why is this still a question? I don't, I think so. I think the subtext here is historically, like, up until maybe five to seven years ago. CEOs, avoided weighing in on political issues because they believe customers were customers. And they didn't want to alienate a customer base. It was the Republicans by Air Jordan's too, right? Like that. Which is an epochal tale. Apparently, he said it slightly differently than that. I'm talking about Michael Jordan. But the Historical basis for this is CEOs shouldn't weigh in because they don't want to alienate a customer base but the modern your modern take on it was, which is, why wouldn't they be doing this, right? Like is, is a very modern take is a very like actually you have no choice but to weigh on a lot of these things. Right. Because silence is seen as complicit nests, right? Where there's outrage on one side or the other or both sides right? And if you're silent you're complicit and you actually run a risk by being silent but or you can be a hip or conversely you could buy speaking out, you could be a hypocrite if it doesn't match. If your Paul, what corporations? Paul says, don't match your your nearly vows Which I think is actually part of the question. Is it a good idea? Implies to me that by saying something, you run it. You're running a risk. And I think, actually, now today the risk of not saying something is significantly higher which makes the whole conversation ridiculous. Because why are we? It's like for 10 years we've like, CEOs CEOs, say all sorts of shit. Why are we talking about this now? It's higher the risk I suppose but then also the there's a compounded risk that if you again, if you do speak out but you're full of shit. That could also have backlash, right? Yeah, all right. Well, but not people don't check up on you for it, you think? So, I think millions of it we have literally millions of what, what do we have? Literally a million to have helped me. I have millions of dust mites on my shirt right now. Uh, but if I just look at the stories that we pulled last year, in 2021, Damian and Emma pulled 11,000 stories, or something like that. What was the number? Is something like that. Of them. I did a quick study in when I was like, looking at this I ended up with the kind of what a what was a lame little jokes jokey script about it but I actually tried to pull the data of the 11,000 stories that we pulled. There were something like 1300 where it was XYZ says x. Y, z tells x y z claims, right? Like it was people saying he was speaking out about stuff. If you do some really quick math, I know you get your TI-82 out and you do this. That's almost 10% of the stories that we pulled last year was CEOs, just saying shit. I'm pretty sure it's not an issue today. That CEOs aren't saying shit. And I'm pretty sure the question wasn't about. Should they be Allowed to say shit it was more about like is it really a great idea that a CEO like Ian musk says 16,500 of their thoughts to anybody who cares? Well listen but that's the of course that's the rule that broke the camel's back, right? Because Conversely are yes. Good for him. It's a great idea because somehow it's made that company into a stock market darling. When it, there's no reason why it should be. I mean, literally we're not making money up until last year and they just recalled like or like close to it. Yeah. 500 and they were called like there's their totals um, shipments in 2020. One was something like, you know, 575,000 and they had to recall 475,000 cars, which is like, I mean, it's absurd and yet they're still trading at 1,000 bucks, a share, right? And on musk is basically techno Jesus. It's what makes this feel hate that I'm saying the word ESG again. Is it a word? I know it's an acronym, but I feel like it's a word that's turning into Aaron. We did jarren's old show. It's what makes this feel. So difficult in many ways that you can't. There is no, like, you can't apply the rule to everybody, right? And maybe that's the fall of the industry because we try to, you know, rate Thousands of companies at once thinking that like, how you do things in Belgium is the same as how you do things in Texas or. But that's why so much of ESG is, is anecdotal, right? It's like story driven because the reality is that you can be an asshole like Elon and it can work. Or you can keep your mouth shut and try to be diplomatic and I could backfire, right, I mean that's boring. Well, I feel like The only place that you or the only places where you can be in Elon and get away with it are mostly in the Tech Industries or even Finance because those are the only Industries in which it's acceptable. So, like, for instance Point, yeah. Because so I think that even Jamie dimon is a decently interesting example, because Jamie dimon, maybe phrases it a little less. Intensely than Elon. He isn't quite as ridiculous. He doesn't have like this insane, put her presence, but he has been actively shooting on crypto. The moment it became relevant and he's not worried about the. So there are a ton of people that are very invested in crypto and Jamie dimon, apparently doesn't mind shooting on it and potentially losing a customer. So yeah, I hear you but it's I'm just saying and then Elon is ridiculous and insane and arguably helps his business rather than hurts it well. But then when you go to like healthcare, for example, or if you go to, you know, even the food industry, the food service in Industry, there's a lot more diplomacy there. Like, if even, like think about what a big deal, it was when Papa John became an insane person. Like, once he lost his diploma, that was awesome. He lost his credibility, where that doesn't happen. Public saw him with Jamie Diamond. So I mean Industries realize he was insane. Yeah, so suddenly became insane. I think he's always been. So The subtext to the conversation. Entirely, to me that was interesting was you wouldn't pose this question to like, Juan Carlos who's tweeting while driving to, like, visitors aunt, in, you know, Poughkeepsie, you're asking this about a CEO, whether it's a good idea that they weigh in really, the question should be. Is it a good idea that anybody gives your opinion loudly and Public Town Square? Should anyone give a shit about what you have to say? But we're focused so much on, like the question itself, betrays the CEO fetish, right? Like if like the fact that we're focused on should is CEO weigh in on a politically divisive issue at all. We're really saying you have a tremendous amount of money and because of your money, you have more influence than most people. Is it a good idea to protect your money to say things, right? Like in public that you really think we don't ask that question of like like us. We're on the are saying, whatever the fuck we think. Like the question isn't for us, like, should we be weighing in on politically divisive issues, but it would be if we had a bigger following our audience. I mean, they do this for like basketball players. I mean, you know, LeBron James never gets to be just like like LeBron is a dude speaking. He's always representing something because we fetishize them because we worship people who we think are successful in some way and that in, its of itself, is stupid like, like, why don't you spend more time worshiping your kids? And we won't be asking CEOs, whether or not they should be weighing in on stuff. Like, like worship something else. You know like going to the metaverse and find. Go buy yourself some like a church perhaps. Yeah go do. Ya. Do you do something? We'll go worship something else. Don't spend your time paying attention with EOS say we won't be asking them whether it matters what they say and before anyone gets too crazy, don't worship your meta diaper. That's actually just a tool. It's not like, that's useful. It's fine. I want to get back to what I was talking about because I think this is interesting, the whole, the man like the the tech male Industries like only because cars themselves are kind of a male despite, you know, Mary Berra, kind of a male fetish and Tech is all built on like, Whispers And Dreams. And so I there isn't I it's something I haven't paid attention to that. I want to pay attention to could, which is that Is abhorrent behavior in the CEO world. Is it rewarded in certain Fields over other fields? The other thing I was going to ask because I forgot. What was the name again? Of Jamie Diamond son-in-law trying to remember Joey oh I want someone to say Joey Romeo. Okay. I just well, I actually to that point like, is it really related to Fields or not? Is it, it's not actually really related to fields in my mind. It's related to sort of like whether or not it's a maturity thing, like we're leaning in Texas. Texas, young field, right and is populated largely by white men and white male privilege when you're young. It's all about beating your chest, saying, what you think and pretending like what you think actually matters. I know I was a young white male who did the exactly was all? Yeah except that I'm a little more aggro about like other things rather than like what my opinion is right? But in Jamie diamonds industry or the healthcare industry you're talking about generally more mature Industries with not more diversity but people who have learned you know because they're older you don't need some of that. I mean like I would say on the if we looked at just average the gradient of average CEO ages. You're the older, your skewing as a CEO or whether you still have the job, right? Because you've got like Leon cooperman, who's a retired billionaire, who's going to say whatever he wants? Because it's at a certain age, you don't give a fuk especially because someone's calling miraculously, I don't know why they're calling but they are. Yeah. But the fact is that the Younger, You skew, and Tech tends to skew younger and the, more white male you are, which tends to come with it. A certain amount of I believe in my own privilege and I will actually buy other. I think more importantly especially for surrounded by other people. Like you who aren't going to push back. Yeah, exactly. So like, you know when Elon Musk tweets out is it Kimball when he goes to the boardroom who's like, bro? Yeah, exactly you should maybe not do that. So much or do they high five about? Like, you nailed that pedo guy, man, really awesome tweet. But even to my children, sometimes when we're talking about like certain you know, things you say that could offend certain other people, blah, blah. I always think like consider your audience. Like if if that type of person was in the room with you, would you feel as comfortable being that much of an a-hole? And I I, you know, think Papa John's with the N word, right? What if what if the board was full of Shaquille O'Neal? Would he have felt as privileged to to be the level of a racist? Probably not. I don't really sure. Papa John might actually be a bad case study because that guy might have said the end we're to kill O'Neal and been like, but not you, man, you're cool and we're friends, right? So, but, and we're over there, right? Like he had pretty sure that guy. He's said, he's spent 20 months trying to get their inward out. Notice he didn't exceeded yet, he doesn't finish. Yeah, he's still trying to just Journey but I, that's amazing. I think that I do. Take your point for the, the young men thing. But I to me, I think it's even bigger than that is the fact that being surrounded by, you know, pun intended other, Yes, Men. Yes, white men. Is that a thing? Yeah. Yes, bwg's why? So being surrounded by so many intact you don't have to you know watch yourself and I think again that Tech and Elon Musk because you said, am I? It's not just cars. It's tech there. Is this world of like Whispery farting and unicorn dreams. And so you're well, and you're allowed to sound like a complete, your allowed to sound like a complete, mystical a hole because there might just be a Japanese benefactor who's gonna drop 20 billion dollars from his last thing is, I would argue that the, you know, more established Industries are the ones who are propping the like move fast and break things assholes up because Jamie dimon. Like you think that he doesn't see Tesla's an investment opportunity. Like all of these people are propping up Tesla. So I don't know. They are by proxy supporting that kind of behavior. Therefore, it makes them money. So it is a good idea. Hypothetically, it's a great question because my honest thought when he said that was that Jamie thinks elon's and ass hole but that yeah he the asshole strategies, he doesn't care. Right? But the court, you know, he wants corporations to succeed in general but I they must I feel like they almost look at him. Like you can't banks are different because Banks Banks can think you're Everyone's an asshole. But the money's fungible, right? Like you can move the money. That the thing about Banks being allocators of capital means that they can allocate to one thing one day and they can just move it the next day and to them you being an asshole only matters in as much as no one people still like you as an asshole or no one cares enough and they keep buying your shit. The minute, you're a liability is when Banks cut bait, right? Banks? Have that ability. In fact, if you look at the history of sort of the financial system, and the way it deals with like assholes, it's hugely reactionary and never proactive, they Banks, very rarely say, you know what? We are no longer going to fund to ask holes who tweet shit that we don't agree with which of course he say. After the fact, you tweeted some shit that a lot of other people don't agree with and now it's causing me problems so you're gone. That's that's the way they can move. It's a different case. Like they don't prop up the industry because they don't have a view of the industry. They just view it as money, right? And of course, this is highly interesting because I didn't actually mean to do this when I use Jamie diamonds and as an example, but JP Morgan is currently suing Tesla over Elon musk's tweets. Like that is something. Oh, is that right? Yes. I'm right. I'm right for one does think he's an a-hole. He does. Oh, they're not suing him because they think he's an a-hole, they're suing him because his tweets promised something and it costs. Yeah, I'm talking about the melody Hobson perspective here, like the off the Record Jamie. I'm talking about things that an a hole and that's his. That's his maybe is that okay, here's the final question wrap this up is Jamie dimon thinking that Elon Musk is an asshole, a hoax, excuse me. Is that A big T truth or a little teacher truth. Well, Wow, you just blew my mind. I, I will say this as a parting thought Having spent some time with some CEOs, not Jamie dimon or anybody famous. But I have spent some time with some CEOs at a level where they're very CEO. CEOs are like actors. They Don't Really Turn off. You don't there's there's no private, the private thing. Is usually like when the private thing happens and it becomes public, it's a email written by a Utah Tech Mogul sent about how the Jews are behind the covid, plot, its Bizarro like totally insane stuff. Otherwise, the success will CEOs, their private sounds a lot like they're public. They're pretty much automaton boring ass jerks like when you don't hang out club then so I could probably wrong. No, I spend more time at Princeton where we ruin people's financial aid packages. Yeah. I wanted to end with one last thing. Is that Damien? I want? Yeah, that is the metaverse music, which is a great way to end. Damien, am I being promoted to senior associate? You enter the metaverse, you you get, you actually only got one camel out of 1300 for your performance today because, which is better than her stories about covid and airplanes betrayed, the you change your mind, you've changed your mind. So I want you to say to the people, how you've changed your mind about a covid before we wrap out. I mean, I don't know if I completely changed my mom. I'm on the path to change my mind. Made the case. Did we already talked about this on? Are matte. Made the case that We're on air, right? That Omar is affecting. Mostly unvaccinated people at this point and that we can't shut down. We can't just sort of arbitrarily shut down business Industries, Just to appease that fact, is that the is that a headline of your point? I basically the immunocompromised who get covid, we can't do anything about we can vaccinate them and try to protect them as much as possible. But in this country, 15% of the country has basically decided. They don't want to be vaccinated. And right now, we're shutting down the economy largely because that 50% 50%. It's that it's that low. I thought it was higher than that. Yeah, as my it might be well, that's, I'm sorry. That's that's the result of a survey of people who said, we will in your living room. No. We will not get vaccinated under any circumstance, they're just pure and well. Alright, I'm gonna now I'm backtracking a little bit because I I do appreciate that point. It's coming from the endless still dance. It's coming from the health. The health industry perspective, your wife is a doctor. But again, this argument does leave out the millions of people like retail workers who have to deal with the ramifications of the surge either. Either with just being confused, overworked scared of angry Shoppers know. There's a bigger story. I'm saying than just that what you're yes. Thank you. Yes. Except no, I don't agree. I accept and I'm not a medical professional. Yeah but this variant If you are vaccinated is pretty much a light flu. Okay it is not deadly and If it's not deadly and it's the flu people used to go to work with colds all the time and I hated it now this is that but we have protocols and anger about ridiculous divisive things. I, I feel like I want to call fun everyone who's not back, okay, by choice and I'm gonna do all the way back to the beginning. The boring beginning, where I dreamed like a idiot that I am that we would that the society would take away certain Lessons Learned, we would redevelop best practices we would be more Nimble maybe like with all kinds of things, all kinds of sectors. This is what this is proven to me is that if there is a let's say there's a hybrid, a Delta crime, right? That is like, that is not. Not only does, it does it pass quickly amongst you know what highly contagious but all so was very dangerous. We're not, we're just not in a position to do anything about it. I, you know, like we're we don't even know how to shoot. We don't even know how to shut down things and and because these people will be shouting, there's no common good. It's just a mess. That's all I'm trying to say. I love that. You just woke up and realized Humanities Humanity. That's a good. And because despite Emma's like beige existence, I am, I am constantly living in this like idealistic, bubble. I don't know why. I always think that things are gonna turn around. I don't want. My problem is, I'm happy to pop it for you on a daily basis. Speaking of which, this show comes to you and a daily basis. Flow Medias. Damian Ross, and Emma lurking.
