Live. From behind. Two basically crappy microphones. Are these microphones crappy? They're not the best. Mine's not bad. It's not bad, but mine is Stellar. It's a Wacky Wednesday edition of Biz nuggets. It's really not that wacky. Join is always by Emma, three days in a row lurking and Matt zero days in a Roma Scotty. I'm a belabored pun. No pun can be labored. In today's popsicle filled back called January 26th 2022. Damion gets nerdy. And Emma gets angry. I don't. I'm sure he was gonna get. Yes. Isn't that our normal State, though? I feel like that's just what we usually are. You always nerdy? I'm often. Just snarky and terrible and sarcastic and rude. That's our thing though. That's perfect for us. All right. Okay, ready? Yep. I'm ready. I'll tell you what I did today. I took a lot of stories, I've been meaning to get to And I got to them, I put them on here. Women make gains on Bank boards, but men still hold the power. Okay. So far, so usual. A record number of women 33%. Now, hold seats in the boardrooms of the largest US Banks. Unfortunately, the vast majority of them are still waiting for the power. That should come with the position here, the details. Can't talk today. City groups. Jane Fraser is reported here. Sadly, the only female CEO among 19 members. Of the S&P 500 Banks index. None of the companies have a woman in the chairman seat, the chairman seat. You just yelled at me for using chairman. Okay, good. Good. I have some to say about that. I said, chairman there deliberately Because that line is taking directly from the Bloomberg article. Here's their line because it just really think about this riding. Think about how weird this sounds, okay. None of the companies have a woman in the chairman seat. Yeah, it's not great, it's awkward. If you're riding that you should and your proofreading, it should just stand out to you. It's just looking weird. All right. Dear Bloomberg and everybody else. Oh, this is my first soapbox moment, I have another soapbox moment later. Okay, can we stop saying chairman for shit sake? Yeah, seriously with that. I mean, maybe that's the problem. Maybe corporation's are too stupid to understand that a woman can be a chairman and that's why they're not promoting them. But seriously, can we all just agree to stop? It's not hard. I stopped a long time ago. Emma stopped, repeat after me, chair board, chair chair, chair person. Even you can do it. And let's not forget Ford and GM. Yes, four and GM. Officially changed the title is to chair in 2021. So this ain't so hard. No, okay, thank you. All right, back to the other depressing details, they're only three family, female leaders in that group that means out of a possible 57 board leadership positions, a paltry 7% Are held by women. Maybe the banks should pick up the phone and call the country of Norway. The number is 1, 800 for Norway. I just checked. Wow. Here's you didn't know that. Here's what's going on in Norway. Here's what's going on at the 19th. Companies in Norway. Okay, they have 41% women on board. 32% women, in the executive at executive level, 39 8% women in committees, 26% of female board, chairs 26%, female CEOs. And I will say this, sadly, this is an extreme outlier for Europe. So I'm only gonna praise Norway here because the rest of Europe sucks at this too. That's it. That's A global econ. At the New York Times, has written a book called Davos man, how the billionaire devoured the world, which it's a dramatic title. But I also think it's pretty accurate. So this book details, how Global Health has been concentrated by billionaires in the maintenance strategies? They used to preserve their money? The book details, how the rise of billionaires coincides with things, like a rise and right-wing populism, limited, labor organization, and all the other shit that Damon and I talk about all the time. But here's what I'm excited about the author, Peter Goodman seems to have a solution to the billionaire problem. We spend a lot of time painting, a pretty ugly portrait of the issues that plague our world. So when it comes to wealth especially so I'm ready to do a little problem solving, this sounds good to me Goodman solution can be traced back to net. The 19th century Robber, Baron so like Vanderbilts, JP Morgan aka the people who still sort of on our society which I'm confused by but that's a conversation for another day. But those Robert Barron's monopolies got broken up by Anti-Trust, law enforcement, the template for eliminating billionaire power. According to Goodman is antitrust enforcement, labor power and progressive. Taxation. Congratulations, you are. Now experiencing the disappointment, I felt when I discovered how boring The solution is unfortunately, those are the boring solutions that we normally come to as well. So, I shouldn't call them boring. They're not boring. We just scream about those things into The Ether very frequently. So, honestly, I was hoping for like, a heist or like a secret society or something, but voting in supporting labor, movements is less sexy, but hoarder Global wealth isn't exactly as sexy issue to begin with. So I'll take it. Maybe you shouldn't call board. Maybe call it simple. Simple. You're right. Simple isn't always born, but boring people. But simple is also dumb, which is a problem, you know. Simple. Just relaxing. I like it. Trust me. I like these Solutions boring or not. I'll take them. Indigenous. Oh no indigenous. Oh God, I came and say, indigenous group seeks 100% ownership of Canada's Trans, Mountain pipeline, full disclosure. I got something going on with my mouth. That I just can't talk a new non-profit organization, nesika Services. There's join several other groups and seeking indigenous ownership of the Transmountain pipeline that runs from Alberta to Canada's West Coast. Okay, little background in case you forgot The Canadian government bought the Trans Mountain pop line pipeline in 2018 from Texas, Bass pipeline, operator, Kinder Morgan. After the company threatened to Halt, the Expansion Project amid Fierce opposition and protests, since then the government of prime minister Justin Trudeau expressed an interest in selling a stake in the pipeline to indigenous communities. Once the pipeline's current expansion from 300,000 to 900,000 barrels per day is near complete. Here's a Services said and this is why I did this article because wait for it this is some true sweet stakeholders rule. Action. I mean, this is it, this is The Sweet Spot here. It seeks an outcome that equally values the environment and governance alongside economic benefits for its people. And wants to explore equity and revenue, sharing opportunities with no upfront Capital requirements. Wow, that's translation Booyah. Yeah, no, that's sweet. You're woke us. Fuck headline for today is Delta Airlines turns to canned wine in push to phase out. Plastic Delta is being woke us. Fuck this week by beginning to stop one in aluminum cans and of their previous plastic vessels. This is going to reduce Delta's, annual plastic use, but up to 250,000 pounds, please note that this change will only impact certain passengers flying coach business and first class passengers will continue having multiple wine options that they expected. True obviously deserve yes, that is true. But Delta also replaced their plastic Cutlery and other single-use plastic items with products made of more sustainable materials. Like, bamboo this woke is, I'm with that. All right. Yeah, give it a second. This woke is fuck move from Delta shouldn't come as a surprise after they put themselves on the Forefront of the air travel industry. When it comes to sustainability by committing to being carbon neutral from March of 2020 onward, that was early. That was early for anyone Airline or not. But wait, hang on. So turns out, they literally just committed to carbon neutrality in March of 2020. They aren't actually carbon neutral. Okay? But they did pledge to end, tropical deforestation by 2030. I'm not sure what an airline has to do with tropical deforestation, but I guess it's something and they have pledged to hit Net Zero by 25, okay? But they've made some real progress on that front by purchasing a shit ton of carbon offsets. I have to say I'm disappointed in Delta the More. I learn the less convinced. I am, that Delta is really giving the sustainability thing that their best effort out of 11, major airlines they came in 5th or sorry. They came in 8th for fuel efficiency and they were second, they were the second highest carbon emitter of any Airline globally. In 2018, I would love to congratulate them for their commitment, but I think they just want to look woke as fuk and not be woke his fuck, you know, there's a difference. Well unfortunately you might be right. I think a lot of these big companies do have departments that just Cherry pick little woke things to do and to publicize but Kai I ask you this, Emma. Yeah, why do people need to eat on planes? What's the big deal? I mean, maybe if like the plane ride is, let's say over eight hours this but what why are we feeding people on planes? I don't get it. I mean can have water available. Sure. And maybe like if you have diabetic passengers maybe you want to have a cookie available. I don't know. But what do we do? Why do we hate? It's disgusting. Anyway, I hate I hate Transit Clinic fights because yeah, first thing is you get on it night, they feed everyone, they shut the lights off and then you just slowly hear all the Rumblings and smell and smell like disgusting smells of everyone digesting. Their I just don't get it. I don't get it. I don't get it either, but maybe they should work on their carbon emissions before they change out. Couldn't this helped somehow. It could. Last way, is not really an airline problem. Let's Okay, less weight on the passengers. It's a fly them back right now. More fuel efficient to have. You don't need that bulk on the plane. I'm sure that food weighs a lot. Oh, yeah, I'm sure. Yeah. And nobody needs a drink either on a plane. That's ridiculous. Stop it. Just stop it. I beg to differ but continue. Okay. Fine. Up next. Oh, Church pension to vote against minors. Shunning waste standard. That's kind of a That's a mouthful of a headline. When you said minors, I took that I did. Unfortunately hear it in the like, underage way. So I do feel the need to clarify that. Mine is Meijer like they are in mines. Mining for stuff. Do you like my description does? Stay tuned. Church of England. Pensioned board plans to get tough with mining companies that haven't signed up to a safety standard. It played a key role in creating the 4.7 billion dollar fund, which manages the retirement Savings of the ink anglian Clergy said it will vote against the chairs of corporate boards who have not committed to implementing a global industry standard for managing mine waste facilities known as tailing. Damn. Hmm. The statement was time to coincide with the third anniversary of the collapse of tale of a tailings dam in Brazil that killed 270 people and galvanized Global Investors to try and prevent future, tailings, disasters. 270 people. Since then, there have been at least 12 more, mine waste incidents from Peru to India. I'm not gonna say anything profoundly snarky about this story. I mean, why would I know? I will say this it's a time to name drop a little bit. I met with these people want. You did in London in London to discuss a woman on boards papers paper. And you know what, Emma? They they generally seem to care. That's a little shocking. Right. Shocking? Right. Yeah. But I will say three things, I'm not gonna be snarky. I'm gonna say three things. Okay, number one. By pointing out that they genuinely cared and they did, that's my secret way of saying that I met with a lot of people who genuinely did not give a shit about female leadership. Seriously thought it was a bunch of fake Wok, spaghetti sauce. Okay, I'm gonna get back on my soapbox for a few more seconds here. Okay, I just this is Dawn of this new way of thinking about this most of the world now, routinely complains about everything, the left the right, the moderate, everybody hates everything. Sure it. What's the only real important common denominator here? The vast majority of our public and private institutions are led by men. It's facts. It's just facts. They are the math dummies. Let's give somebody else a chance at this. It's all just I'm serious. Let's just give them. Okay. All right. I'm gonna move on. Number two. Yeah, the Anglican clergy have retirement savings worth 4.7 billion dollars. How much retirement do the Anglican clergy need? How many of them are there? I just imagine, like 10 of them. I mean, I don't know what's going on there and number three. Why just go after the chair? Let's just seems way too civilized. And again, these are very civilized people, they lay they work in a lovely part of London. They've a very lovely office, but come on, make a statement vote, all the bombs out. Come on I feel like The most civilized part of London is where the most uncivilized things happen. If you means, I think it's by a tree by a bench by a squirrel. That's probably the most simplest part, that's probably true. All right. And finally, this one speaks for itself, a chunk of a SpaceX rocket has drifted through space for years, and is on a collision course with the moon. They got something here with me, okay? But it is yet, unless you're the moon, which would be news to me, but I'd be excited about that. Yeah, no. It's going to crash into the moon, that's it. A chunk of a Falcon 9 rocket is probably going to crash into the moon on March 4th, of this year Market in your account. It's pretty precise. I was a little concerned reading this headline cold because it's not like the Moon is just incidental to life on Earth the moon controls some important shit. The Tide's tide time light we need that stuff usually I was actually not too thrilled of the idea of space junk knocking into the damn Moon and causing the Earth, to be one giant soonami, all of a sudden that was not appealing to me, but You and I probably have very little to fear if the rocket chunk does make contact with the moon. Thank God. The first report on the upcoming crash. It's actually rooting for a lunar impact. According to his first blog post. He's legitimately excited about it. He wants it to make contact and an astronomer from Harvard commenting on the situation said that the impact will just be. And I quote from his Twitter, another hole in the green cheese. I'm not necessarily comforted by any of that, but at least we don't have any tsunamis to worry to worry about and that feels like a win. I would like to tag on at the end here that I could talk about space pollution a little bit within this story. But Damien requested, some uplifting stories today and I really fails on that assignment. So I'll refrain we don't have to talk about eyes pollution today. I think I I kind of my uplifting. I feel like yeah. You're uplifting than mine. I mean, you do know that the Moon is not crater because God has a has a spoon and she like put, you know, carbs out little hole getting the moon, I thought it was like the moon was the universe's ice cream shop and people are just scooping out a little chunks, you know, that's kind of yeah, I know imagery. All right, that's it. That was Damian Raul's and me, Emma lurking. The one you all come here to see Hopefully we'll be back tomorrow with some more nonsense. Thank you so much for listening and Matt mascardi, if you are watching us currently where are you? Where are you? But also you're not. Welcome back. Thanks bye.
