Hello. Oh, data Queen alert data, Queen alert. Live from the green Fender basement, under green business Dusty. Tiny house. It's an Uber special business pants, Tuesday edition of the greatest ESG podcast ever, really, I mean, come on, let's be honest. Okay, great greatest. All right, come on. What's a better one? Are you think about? I cannot name any other better one. We got Emma is typing lurking. We got Ari screen sharing data, Queen got me. What more do you really need and today's Rose tinted bag of gold and hello shaped nuggets called June 28th 2022. We have some live. We have a live guests from Green, Finn 22, and a bunch of silly interview questions for all of our favorite unemployed listeners, but let's get right to Matt because I guess he's here. So okay, so live from Green Finn 22, the premiere ESG event aligning sustainability and capital markets, Is a very own atmosphere. Is that true at? Is it the premiere? ESG event. It is, it is the one event for ESG happening in Chelsea Piers, okay? That's look at that scenery behind him. Is that what makes it fake or real? Give it a touch. Is it fake or real? Let us know. Come on. This is very, I just killed this. That's my question. It's according to the menu. Is it? Vegan vegetarian dairy-free gluten-free? Or does it have nuts that plant? I think it's sprouted. It's fully sprouted. Is there anything you want to say to introduce while you're there before we get to our questions for you? Matt or like what do you look? I'll say this. I'm here for our board saber metrics. That's why I'm here. Thank you, Matt. What are those? The Data. We have on boards where we can measure boards, like, sports teams. and, The two people I've gotten up the guts, actually, you know, the two people. I hate, they loved it. Okay. I got they both gave me business cards. He said, I want to call you. One of them actually has a database of hospitals. She said, let's collaborate, I will give you all, give you, you know, I want to look at our. Can you please remind every single person you talk to that since I have no idea what job I would do after this. That, we really do need this money. Yeah. Really. What am I gonna do? This industry is not going to keep me. Actually. If we fail at this, we're all fired ever. Okay, so we have a little sample for people that are interested a little a little bit of a live API. Oh the queen flexing, do we have any questions from Emma? I want to hear about the snacks. Okay, right to the snacks. Matt let's get right to this next this is this is why I call it the greatest ESG show on the planet because this is this is really what you want to know what you need to know. As he conferences go, and I've been doing a lot. This is the wokest food really well. I don't tell me why. Tell me why you cuddle with the chicken before you eat every Was no cuddling, everything. Is organic or locally sourced. But if you write ours in the next to something, that's right. The best of the breakfast Snacks by far, was the cinnamon shortbread delightful, I like anything in it was with a cup of coffee. It was delightful is the only thing that made most of the actual session. It is you Can I just say I haven't done the full statistical breakdown yet, but I'm looking at the menu, we have 10 items. Every item is labeled either vegan vegetarian dairy-free gluten-free. Right? So it's 100% woke data here, 100% woke food. This is amazing. This is what Texas governor Greg Abbott is trying to you're saying, this is why they hate us before. Our, our baked oatmeal fruit muffin or vegan dairy-free, baked oatmeal fruit. And this is why Texas hates us. Very deep. I was deep out. This is Dad with big AG right there. But for lunch, I you know, I was a little disappointed that the toasted pine nuts on my arugula salad were not toasted as much as I like. They were a little less actually. Pine nuts are a problem, aren't they aren't? There isn't there some there either? They use too much water, or there's like there's a labor issue. I'm serious. There actually is a difficult, there's a difficulty required. So this is not woke, this is almost, this is a problem here with right outside. The window of the conference is a giant. It's a super young called like the Toca one. It costs 30 million dollars to buy, and that's what I'm seeing as some people are talking about social justice and how like social justice data can help us change the world, a little awkward a little while, maybe it's not actually the maybe it's like it's a projection. It's a it's a, it's a hologram. Yeah, I'm trying to see. What anything else? I mean you want to know? Yeah, I want to know if you tried the corn, putting souffle. Oh gosh, she's just stuck on look. Yeah, that's all well remember, whenever he went to the cared about 85% of that was mostly bad food. Oh anything exciting to you started. Okay. Stop it. There it is. That all right, so the that leads me to my next. Yeah, this, this is my next actual non-food question. Regarding Lee. We might get back to food later, but my graduating on food question is, what is the most boring thing you've seen so far? Oh, this is a loaded question. Loaded question, I asked the hard stuff. I've been doing these for like 10 years and they're still having the same fucking same. Okay, like that. Every single one is like they make a joke about the alphabet soup of ESG. Pretty funny. CD. Pretty funny says, it's super funny. Yeah. Tcfd, especially for 10 years and super funny. There was one good session at the beginning, which got me angry and which they spent the time talking about ESG, ratings and scores and how they're not useful, they're not decision useful because you have to put, if you're going to say something, you have to make sure it's Buzz wordy enough. So it's not the decision useful and I just sat there thinking, you know, you know, you know what, yes she was before. ESG rating. It was nothing. It was nothing, there was nothing so complain away but otherwise the session have been I have let me light the mood a little bit. Let me, I want to get props the green Biz because I did some. I did some popular math over here. There's a map. Believe It or Not, There are 149 features 149, and I'm not wrong with our marketing. Yeah, everything. Everything And oh, yeah, sneeze. And can I say hats off to Green Biz? Because 54% of those features speakers are women. So they accomplished something. I will say green is has done. Excellent job with keeping this thing, and people of color, not just like a token. Yeah, it's incredible. It is wonderful Panda. Play a green business. Maybe the only it's not their fault that the people whose words come out of their mouths are less. Well actually let me I might want to disagree with that because it might be green business fall because I just seen at lunch that they're offering miniature sweet treats and breakfast. They're offering miniature bagels. Why are they miniaturizing everything? What is wrong? What is going on? What it's for the what are you an American consume? That's right. Yeah this is if we're gonna make Texas hate us then we're going all the way in and giving me treats and everything. I will rather this first of all, the second set of session looks like it's going to be great. That was something here. No, there's a session that I'm excited. He tells us what it is. I'm going to give props, I'm not gonna tell us to to companies for, I don't. It's, it's about ESG. That's okay, except for me. I want to give props to the swag that I got. Now, we're talking Ms. Yeah, I gave me a NPR style, Towing? Okay. Which is very get some for us but NASDAQ, I think took a cake. Oh, I also the second place went goes to a guy who was handing out a pencil, but in the tip. Yeah, and listeners in the tip of the pencil. He's a little capsule. That has seeds in it so you planted in the ground and it turns into here, it is. The top it turns into that's actually it's literally amazing. And yeah, this is what Texas hates us. Where was planting things? I got three, I got three. I got oh, you have to go to the Super spreader event. Take to get the swag. What is it? I got the NASDAQ. Oh, that is so we can make our own can you grab these right in the back posters Made in China. Wow that is so maggot of them, that's so 1950s. Wonder Years. Don't get like water stained on our ugly coffee table. Good going. NASDAQ. I'm definitely putting every drink. I have down on it. NASDAQ coaster to ruin the Nasdaq logo. Instead of nice Well, thank you for joining us. Look forward to hearing you tomorrow, you gonna call back in tomorrow. I'm gonna call back in tomorrow and let you know how the rest of the day went. I actually have a meeting with some reporters later and I'm gonna try to sell something try to sell something. And how about this? How about this tomorrow, Matt? Why don't you try to come up with something actually useful to share? I will, I will say the one thing I hope to share is that our page gets better because when people say, what do you do and I say snarky podcast and board saber metrics. I might as well have just I might as well have just like handed them a sticky. Note that says are I was thinking loded, diper, but yeah you're pretty close. Okay, there you go. Matt the great at mascardi thanks for having me. That was a great. Matt McCarty green Finn 202 in Chelsea Piers in New York City. Yeah, a super spreader. An ESG super spreader event. Do you think you'll get covid a second time? That's the question. One can only hope. Yeah, have you I don't actually know. A lot of people have gone out twice so this would be exciting for me. I know a couple did. Your mom did you know? Okay. All right, that took longer than I thought. So let's move on to our final segment. We have the great ml, lurking and Arya. I hope you're ready. She, so we found this amazing article on Business Insider called these 60 top Executives share. Their favorite interview questions to ask job candidates. So, are you ready to be interviewed by Emma Larkin? Because yeah, come on, let's do this. Okay, I love this. I only know one and it's the manhole one. Why are manholes round? I hope I actually think I know the answer to that so I hope it's on the list. It is. I can tell you right now. It's not and I do want to know the answer. So please tell it to me. Okay. I think in our correct me wrong. I think it's because you can't draw if it's around it can't fall back into the hole from which it came right. Like it can't. Yeah, there's no way of angling it so that it'll actually fall into the hole. Am I right? Yes. Yes. Yeah. Good job. I've thought about this as a child because I had a very lonely childhood. Okay? All right. Emma hit me. I'm so pumped. All right. So, here are the 10 curated interview questions from 60 CEOs done by me that I will be. Now giving this is real though, right? This is real. This is real. This is from an article. I'm not making this up from Business Insider 60, top Executives share. Their favorite interview questions to ask job candidates, this include our own Maps cardi or no? Yeah. Matt almost made the list, but I heard from the editor that like his question was a little weird. It was originally gonna be six one, but then, you know, Matt about the ice cream. Yeah. Something, you know what? Flavor is ESG if it were ice cream, didn't really make a lot of sense that editorial team. So they decided to Nick. It was a shame. Yeah. But all right, here we go. Interview question number one. This one comes by way of Jeff as Welling of StubHub. He's a CEO of StubHub and he asks his job candidates A hammer and a nail cost $1.10 and the hammer costs, one dollar more than the nail, how much does the nail cost? Wait, what is that? Really. Mm-hmm. That's the question. It's that. It's that easy. This is a, I don't know. Either. Favorite interview question. Tell me my wrong. See how easy it is? Is it not a dollar five and five cents? A dollar five and five cents. How much is a nail cost? The nail costs five cents? Why does the nail cost five cents? Well because the hammer has to cause a dollar more than the nail. What are we doing here? This is really a question, I'm telling you that you're getting the answer wrong in a nail cost. One dollar in 10mm costs, one dollar more than the nail, how much does the nail cost? Well, wouldn't the hammer have to be a dollar five and then they'll be five cents. All right, 10 Arias correct? It is 10 cents. If you buy a dollar more, yeah. A hammer and a nail combined cost one dollar in 10 cents, but a dollar is 90 cents more than 10 cents. Is 90 cents more than 10 cents. You're all wrong. Yeah, I'm right. Wow, is Damien, right? Jeff swelling crazy. Hang on, hang on. I'm very upset by this. This is a favorite interview question. This is bigger anyway. What is this probe anyway? I don't know that. You're a, that's, you're a jerk. I have literally no idea except for that, I think you're wrong totally right. Yes, right. But I'm thinking, what is this? This is I'm this is, this is crazy, talk. This I hope you have some questions. Stop leader. I hope you have questions from women on this list because men are crazy. This is oh standard. One should be like, what is the average? Period. A lot of people don't know that question, okay, moving right, actually, and you both for falling for that like I did that right? Number two, Yes, comes from Peter. Thiel of. Oh, my favorite palantir. Yeah, I had to include him, of course, here's his question. Tell me something that's true that almost nobody agrees with you on. I want individual answers from you. Yeah, for me, it's a hammer at the hammer would cost a dollar five and the nail would cause the nickel. As much as I hate Peter. Thiel, at least he's getting into someone inside somebody. At least, he's He's creating a conversation. Here you go ahead, Ari. You have an answer for this like my optimism and Humanity almost already agrees with me. Yeah, people will do the right thing. All right. Oh, that's your answer people who do the right thing. People will do the right thing. Oh yeah, that's something that's true. Okay, that's something I know to be true. That people the secret with me about, okay? Mine is first, I was gonna say for a cheap joke flat, the Earth is flat. I'm not gonna do that. I'm gonna say that in spirit of our week of horror and sadness, I'm gonna say that, that men should absolutely never have the right to vote on legislating the abortion rights for women that why are they? Why do they even get to vote on this? Emma. I don't understand why are men allowed to vote on that. I don't get why Damian didn't understand Peter Teal's. Question, Damien, has a real know, I think it's true that man should not, I think it's ever be allowed. There's a second part of that question, which is that almost nobody agrees with you on. And I think there are a large, majority of people. Yeah, I can't be hired by Peter. Oh, yes. Game show with three doors. Yeah, and you pick one, and then show you one. I know this one switch or do you and stay the? Let's Make a Deal. Yeah, switch. You gotta switch doors. You gotta switch doors. Interesting, I agree with you because I've read that article are, I'm moving on moving, moving on, whatever three. This one is from Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle another, one of our favorites. Yeah. Are you the smartest person, you know, Really. Yeah, that's yeah. That's that's to that, that's sad. I don't know. I wonder if he hires all the yeses or all the nose. I would that feels very leery Allison to me. There's something there's something that feels very narcissistic about that. I don't very, you know, Come on. All right, next. We have George Michel, who is the CEO of Boston Market? That's still exists. Boston Market. That's that's the news of the day and I am shocked at CEO Michelle because I actually think this is one of the best interview questions I read on the entire list. Most of the ones I pulled over ridiculous but this one I actually thought was a really good smartest person, you know, I know if you were a consultant, what would the sign on your door say So like in my mind I'm interpreting this question as like what you have expertise in you know what I say like be right back or something. Yeah. It was my expertise. I mean, I mean, we're all clearly ESG experts here. That's what we do. Uh-huh. But what about? I can't I, I'm thinking about it more in a like Soft skill, way. Do you know what I mean? Like what are you good at? You know that's that already. Do you have something? I see you thinking. Yeah, mine would say. Need to chat. That's a good one. I agree. mine would say something pretentious, like, Holding a mirror to your mind holding on to your world. Yeah, come on. All right. Next we have Neil bloomenthal and David gilboa from Warby Parker Damian. Yeah, I thought people two people. What was the last costume you wore? Oh I like this one. Yeah, right question. Yeah. This is a costume. You were yeah. A long time for me. I was Flight attendant. Britney Spears. That's such a good costume in real life or like, for like a party. For a party in real life, the cost of see I was thinking see this is why they probably wouldn't hire me. Because I was thinking like metaphorically. I was, you know, I was thinking like to like some crummy like conference or meeting. I had to go to for my last job where I had to wear a tie like that. To me, that's a costume. Because if, you know me, I I I'm already an uncomfortable person, but you put a college shirt in a Time me. I am like sweating and itchy the entire day because I feel like an imposter. I feel like a poser. So, that's the last cost to my war was, I had to go to to London for some business music and I had to wear suit. That's the last costume I wore. Yeah, honestly, Damien, I think you just won that question and got hired to work at Warby. Parker. Really? Yeah, I do for my, I think so. I think that was sort of the insurance question. Yeah. Cheers. Cheers. All right. Next we have, of course we could not leave the ego Maniac, Wonder out of this list. We have Elon Musk who asks, I can't believe what I'm about to say. Elon Musk asks his interviewees, you are standing on the surface of the Earth. You walk, one mile, south One, Mile West and one mile North. You end up exactly where you started. Where are you? Such a man question is that yeah. Okay. Wait, wait. What you walk? One mile, south One. Mile West. And one mile North. You end up exactly where you started. Oh. Where are you there? Was that right? Ari I thought this was a Oh I thought this was like a esoteric question. Like I thought this was like a know there's an actual and thought, oh, I see, there are multiple answers. I think actually, right. He has Asperger's. So he's very probably very much he's grid-based. I don't know what that means are, you're probably right. He probably isn't the North Pole or something like that. Is that right? The True North Pole. Here North West. You're all so. Do you know the answer Emma? Do I know the answer? One of the answers is the North Pole. True North Pole, the true. Yes. Yes, there are multiple one from another one from the Will, Ferrell movie Elf No, no. I wish that were the one. But, no, I wish too. I like that one. That's pure Elon Musk. Yeah, one is the North Pole. Let's see. Wait, don't tell me, don't tell me two is the Chrysler Building in Manhattan. Is that the other answer? Oh, no. That is not the other answer and I cannot find the other ones quickly enough. So we're moving on moving on. What else? Seven we have. Of course Damien's former Crush. I think former president here Jack Dorsey. Sure, why are you here? Who I like this one too. Come on. No, I hate this one. This is arguably, my least favorite question. Look, I'm okay with questions a job, right? Yes, but I think I'm okay with that answer. I'm okay with questions. That just prompt people to talk. I don't know. I think it's okay to just talk and interview. Elon Musk is trying to. I feel like he's trying to trick, you trying to be smarter than you. I don't know that Jack dorsey's doing that. Wow here. Well, I think it's removing yourself from reality in my mind like Jack Dorsey is just lives on another plane then everyone else and not question really conveys that to me. I don't know. But please probably answer you here. I'm here because of an incredible amount of random chance. And look, I guess that's how I'd answer it. Whoa, I think that you would not get hired. I think that you bought that information, actually, I don't want to, I don't want to work a big date. Okay. What else you got? We are we already didn't answer why she was here. Oh, she did. She said she wants to Josh. She wants a job. She wants a job. That was your answer? Yeah and I think if you're a mile north of the South Pole two miles north of the South Pole yeah I'm a mile south. Ya Mi West yes Circle motion and a mile North yeah altitude like walking a mile North like up straight up in the air. Know if only elevation number eight. Sorry yes number is the most obscure. I think person I pulled from this list Harold Hughes who is the CEO of bandwagon which is a blockchain company. And his question is told when total oh there I did, I can give you an explanation for this one. I'm done, okay? Unlike green business, greenfin 22, not a diverse list every every other list in America is always all men, you know. It's always men. Yeah. Yeah. So Harold asks his interviewees, would you rather be rich or would you rather be king? Oh, come on. That's I feel like that. Okay. What the hell? I okay. Granted I've only watched the first season of the crown which I loved. I never thought I'd watch it because you know, because when there are shows that everybody watches love, I'm just like ah, you know, leave me alone with your favorite shows. But it was a beautiful, a beautiful show, a beautiful season, I can't wait for Olivia, Colman, she's in the next season. I love Olivia Colman more than anyone needs to know, power or money, Damien. But I will say, from, from their interpretation of her life, Queen Elizabeth II, there's no way. I would want to be king, it looks like a nightmare an absolute trivial nightmare bunch of nonsense. So I'll take, I'll take the money. I'll go somewhere in a corner of, like, United States, like, Maine or Canada, go to like, no, let's go. I'm just gonna hide somewhere, but I would do. All right, I would rather be king really. Wow? All right, I'm surprised by that, why really? Because with power, you can do things And you can, if you're powerful enough, you'll get other people's money to do the things that's true. Now, as he showed him that bother you, you have the power can't get the power chain. More than just with money. I don't know what he doesn't seem satisfying to me. Do you want to hear this show demonstrates? It doesn't being rich all. So come with power. Yes. Do you want to hear his reasoning or he's explanation of both answers? Sure. Go ahead. So he says, what's more important is the reasoning if the response is to be rich but they use their new wealth in ways to help others, that speaks to their empathy and compassion if they choose king or I'm interested in their views on impacting power structures, I don't know. All right, moving on. I would be the first queen of them all there. We know French Revolution over here and, and to Harold Hughes, welcome to the show. We've never talked about you. I've never even heard of your company, right? I know. But a new character. Here's the flaw in that question. If you're King, you're obviously also Rich. So I don't think it's a fair, the, there's something wrong with the logic there. All right? Yeah. Go ahead. What's that? All right, number nine, we have Steven, galanis, from cameo. Oh yeah. If you could draw your life in the form of a river, what would it look like what this is for? This is just okay. Ari. I got, can I tell you? And you, I'm out. The, the river is one of my favorite metaphors in life. I am already with. I'm already with Steven, galanis. I love. I love Rivers so much. I love everything about them. Really anything, you can think of about it already. I love and not just a river adding these people LinkedIn? Yeah, not just a river streams, Brooks Creeks, anything that flows to me is a beautiful metaphor. But I will say this, this is where Stephen, where you fail with this question. If I, if I could draw like the form of a river, it would just look like a river. They all look at the same. They all kind of meander, the old Meander like a river. What am I doing? What can I, how can I draw a river? That looks like a clown. Like, I don't understand. What is he? Oh, I think turned out smooth and it gets Rock know, then you have a big Pitfall? That's all Rivers. I feel funny members. Are you purposefully misunderstanding, the question or do I actually explain it to you know, I'm being sincere. I'm being sincere. Okay. Well then I think you need to understand that. I think the implication with this question is that it's so he says that the question allows him to understand his candidates in 20 minutes as if he's worked for them with for 20 years which is, you know, quite a statement, a little bowls. I agree. But sure, I get where he's going with that. So I'm pretty sure that you're supposed to think of your life in terms of, like life of events that impacted you and how it flows, you down the river like tributaries, and deltas and estuaries, perhaps. I think, you know, you can be, yeah. I'm gonna I will. Yeah, we're gonna use Arias are real experiment here, Ari. Go, subscribe your life. As if it were a river. Would not be Connecticut, it would do some hard turns. Oh rivers and A little unpredictable right now who knows? So you know at the at the head of the river we're not sure what's happening. Moving down my River, you may or may not be approaching a cliff, Am I Wrong? Describing she's describing Rivers. Yeah but I don't get the questioning it. So. Okay River Damien I feel the need I'm annoyed with Damien's response this me if you want. So I'm trying, I am trying. So it's like okay, the beginning of my River was, you know, a pretty normal beginning to a river. Pretty calm the watch didn't have, you know, many big waves in my way or many rocks or things trying to get that, you know, in the middle of my River, things started to get a little rockier. There was some more obstacles like a river. You just a river. Once again, you know, someone else could be like, the beginning of my River was really tough and now it's kind of smooth sailing at the end of my River, you know, well, you know what, maybe if you didn't say draw, maybe he said, if you could Scribe your life. Like maybe that's where I'm hung up. I'm actually thinking literally of like, a jagged line and a page. I also think that he might be referencing like a psychiatric exercise because there is an exercise where people have to like actually draw a lot, their lives in a river. It's like, okay, this is event, number one and that led me to down the river to event number two, that I think it's more like, actually I love rivers in the metaphor, you see, isn't it? It's a lot for job interview. And to be fair, we're talking about a guy who started a company where you pay exorbitant amounts of money, for a deadbeat celebrity to like say happy birthday to you. I mean, it's really a pointless company, absolutely pointless company. So that's something about his River. It's a, it's a dry. River. I'm gonna stop asking you how your days are. And I'm just gonna start asking you how your Rivers flowing. Yeah. How did your River look today? All right. What's the last question? And finally, I very answerable question for the last one. Number 10, Maggie, Tiffany from high school, a woman? Yes, So, if you were stranded on a desert island, on your own, you think I you I, you know where I'm going, but you actually don't because if you were stranded on a desert island on your own, what three songs would you bring with you? And why? I hate this. I really hate these kind of questions. Yeah, this is why. Yeah, no I allow our answer this one. I would bring one three songs not even albums. You have to listen to the same three times over and over you and one EDM song. those are that's a smart choice but what, you know, what would be Three different jobs. I want title. Like maybe this is asking too much, but I want titles. I don't even I don't even know. She doesn't know this. I have a different answer for you Maggie and again, you sell beer. So I don't, you know, I don't know how serious I have to take you, but I, I'm, I might choose not to bring three songs because honestly, Emma it would Haunt, It would literally drive me insane. If I only had three songs that I had to play for eternity, those songs were driving me mental though. Like it's it, but I would start to fixate on it. It would just like it would kind of be like this, this cyclical horror show. Like I it's too much pressure for me. I couldn't do it. You'd be like, no song. So you, so you have the sound of birds, rather the sound of birds, you would choose no music, even the option of music, because you can, in this our reality, I'm choosing to believe that you can turn the songs off at will. So you would choose no music, even if it was just three songs, would you start to hate those songs? That wouldn't they start to drive? You kind of crazy? I just turned them off. I just like, I don't need to listen but at least I'd have a song on your head. I believe, me, believe me, you still be hearing it in your head when you turn it off? Yeah, I think I'm just the way my mind works. I'm sorry. I played songs on repeat. Before me too or weeks me too. We all have the same. Yeah, that's the definition of crazy. Yeah. And all three of us, we all do that. We've all done it, by the way, to wrap up and readdress your comment from earlier about the lack of women on this list that is because most of the women asked actually decent questions. Yeah, I believe that, you know, I believe that and so every one of them was like reasonable and kind of interesting. And so I was Maggie, was the only one that had a little something. Something to it, that wasn't just like normal and nice and reasonable. Here's why I would never ask these kind of male type of questions because I know what it's like to be asked questions like this and it puts the interviewee and just an awkward position because they're, they know, they're it becomes a game love like, what are they want to hear? What should I say? How do I pleased that the male overall? It's annoying, it's annoying that there are better ways to get insight into people's souls and to ask them like if you're standing on the surface of the Earth and all that stuff, that's a little know.
