Hello, live from the Hulu offices in Chicago, Illinois. The noise. It's a Thursday quiz show Thursday here at business pants. Join as always by Emma lurk 19, lurking. And Matt greenfin 22 mascardi number seven. Woohoo. You were the seventh guy at the green Finn conference? Yeah. I was at a conference if anybody didn't know that a conference Today is strawberry line, salad bowl of laptop flavored nuggets called June 30th, 2022, big fat, fun, quizzes and final thoughts. On greenbiz conference is from our reigning. No one tuned in for that. Actually, let me back up trying, no one tuned in, you're our marketing department, I'm trying done problem solve no one's here, it's just us but she had some interest, she had some interesting. I did, I did have somebody come over to me and say that they listened to the show and and I think I'm still on one hand counting her listeners. So it was great though, because it was more than one finger, but less than two hands, so it's good. Look, But, you know, and it's worse. We, we humor a few people washing their dishes, we act as our own daily research and development team. I did have someone tell me that they listened while they wash their wetsuit. They're wet. That's are they? I don't think you have to well it did occur to me that if you're not washing your wet suit every day we're doing this way too often. If you're not, if you're not washed, I mean, if our listeners are doing this while they wash their wet suit and they wash their wetsuit once a quarter, I think doing this every day is probably Overkill. you're like a fountain of Horrible, negative energy. Wait till we get to the quiz. What is the quiz? What are we doing? What am I here? Why am I? Okay I got. I got several pointless. Quizzes. Ready? Yes, I love when I get to use the media board and it bothers Emma. It's one of my favorite. It really does. And I'm gonna, I'm Gonna Keep squirted today. I'm gonna have you to control head to head. All right, let's do it a fight and I apologize. I apologize already for how terribly come on for you. Are the first one every week. I try to read a book to broaden my brain here at freefloat media. This week I read Everybody lies, Big Data, new data. What? The internet can tell us about who we really are by Seth Stevens dividend. Are you trying to depress yourself? no, I just try to like you know, believe it or not is it's somewhat sure we're about the launch a product board sabermetrics, we do sort of use The creative Department here. All the, all the headlines stuff, we kind of our own research and develop. It was came out of this, we have to stay sharp. We don't, we don't have a team anymore. We don't have a bunch of a drone that are glorious office building. So we have to kind of keep ourselves informed. So this is when you buy a glorious office building, can I go to it? All right, come on. So he has a game in there and I'm gonna, I'm gonna share it with you. He's talking about headlines. So, so he's talking about what people click on what, how did tweak the language? To affect what people click on I guess it's kind of click-baity headline game. I'm gonna throw these at you guys because it's kind of you know lead us into the other parts of her. Okay. Don't even think about it too much so just ask you. Yeah. So we're just saying which headline we would click on Yeah, or you could conversely. You could tell me which one, you think more people people click on. Oh, okay. That's an important distinction. Do you or whatever? You can play it however you want. You can game the quiz. You can actually play the quiz. No, I want to win. So I need to know which, okay, sure method will get me the right answer. Well that's up to you. Let's start. Okay here the first two headlines, you tell me which one led to more clicks, okay? Or which one you click on. Either one, can the snot bot drone? Save the whales. Got it. Can the snot bot drone, save. I love it. Already. Like a headline. We would pick or Can this drone help? Save the whales know, I'm all in on one of these. One of these had 537 had more, I'm all in on, its not bought. I like the specificity of it and the name I mean, come on, you wouldn't want to know how something the deals with snot and his robotic would save a whale. I think that's, that's that, that I'm definitely in on Emma. Yeah, unfortunately I do agree with Matt. I think that giving it an intriguing weird name would make me more likely to click on it because I'm stupid like that. You're both, right? Is that a real headline? Please tell me that's real. Yeah, this is all real moving on quickly. I don't want you to think about it too much, you're gonna really have terrible. This game. I already figured that out. Remember the second one, the second one. Of course, deflated balls is a top search term in Massachusetts. This book is a bit dated. That's the first headline. Of course, deflated balls. is a top search term Massachusetts or this top Massachusetts. Google search term is pretty embarrassing. Which looks The plateaus. Yeah, believe it or not and this is where we can start to think about life here, believe it or not, it's this, it's the second one and I think because there was probably fatigue with the term deflated balls and they knew exactly what that story was talking about. The second one was like, you know, what is pretty embarrassing? Like I gotta figure, I got a see, they're kind of like their leading, it was just the ladder thing you said, which is I got all the information I needed from the headline in the first headlight. And so I didn't need to click on it. Okay, now we get a little bit more serious and disturbing and depressed because that's that's the nature of this week of post. Abortion Banning United States. Here we go. Number three. Hook up contest. Okay. Starting up. Hook up contest at Heart of Saint, Paul rape trial. Or. No charges in prep school, sex scandal. Anybody, I'm gonna go with hookup contest, all those confusingly written. I think you want to click on it to know what the hookup contest was, if it feels very salacious. But do you want to read about? I want to read neither story about terrible, Massage Envy and causes me Yeah, I'll go with the opposite answer. No charges and prep school sex scandal because I'm thinking honestly the rape is not the best subject to read about. It doesn't make me feel uplifted when I for Emma for Emma. I give a Oh yes that's right. I think I think you're absolutely right. I think people don't want to click on the depressing stuff which is why no one listens to our show and I think yeah prep school sex scandal. Let's titillating enough for a clickbait. That's our first the first real point of the game goes to Emily. I would also say that prep school, sex scandal could be less serious. Like, could mean a lot of things. Yeah. And a lot of people would be like oh what happened there? As opposed to going straight for rape, you know the worst one great. Thank you. Moving on. A woman makes Bank off rare baseball card or woman, makes 179,000 dollars off rare. So what he's got to be bank because you have to, you got all your information, I learned. Now, you got all your information from the second one, so you gotta go with Emma. Shit. Yeah I think I agree with that. Fuck. At least you're dropped to. That's dropping us enough. That's bad about you both. You're both right. Matt, I think you've learned something here. Moving on. Two more in this category. Know they were I couldn't believe they were how Massachusetts helped when you the right to birth control access. Or. How Boston University helped and crimes against chastity. You gotta Buzzy term and crimes against chastity. Well, I'm just gonna tell you what I would click on. I would click on the second one. Not the first. Yeah. Um, I think. Oh shoot. I think it's gonna be the first one. I think. It's how messages it's up to win. The right to work control. Access Emma, you just lost your lead. That's right. With Matt. I don't like, he says the answer first, and then I say it. I need to go first. Okay, you can go first, so you lost your leader back to tie? Yeah, that's right. And finally, in this category, victim and family, and prep school, rape trial blame toxic culture, okay? Or. Victim and family in prep school, rape trial releases State. The first one, A second one. I got. I got what I got the statement out of the first one. Didn't I? Yeah, you're honestly Matt and I and I think you're but I but I think that there's another thing going here is that people they're sick of the toxic culture. They're sick of that. I think they're kind of sick of that terminology. Oh, stop it with your clapping. That's fine. I think that they, you're right. They went for vague. They wanted to see what the statement was. So, Matt actually takes a 1-point lead here. I'm disappointed in you. Emma, you had a lead. Well, here's your teaching, like I'm rattled. I'm a young Celtics. You're teaching point is saying nothing with your headline, but make sure it feels like there's something in the story. That's that we should learn from that because we think it marketing Well, we don't try it at marketing. Hey again. Oh, I should say, for the first time anyone laid off recently, who wants to join us in market for college. You're hired. All right. Let's get to the business nuggets headline game. He's oh, so you've learned a lot. Here we go. Let's go quickly. There was a leadership changes, Xerox. Pick a headline. Was, it is wait, hang on. Do we get any more premise for this? No, just having fun. We're just one. Would you click on except Damien's using which is correct? I'm still thinking about winning. Steve Brando brand Steve banned row. Check. Xerox is President chief operations. Officer will serve as interns CEO. It's your first headline or Xerox. CEO, John visentin Dies unexpectedly following combinations. Yeah it's definitely dies that you're going for death. No I'm going with the first one. I think I think I go with Matt here. You'd click on the interim CEO at your full of it going. I think you're lying to me. Okay. But go in by your logic that we've been using I don't have If we're going by the president, that we have set, I got all the information I needed to know from the second one. Okay, he dies. But in the first one I'm like why is there? Why is he in his room? Where the first CEO that got really like anyone philosophical like you were you had to go with the second or third layer deep to be like, why? Let me ask a follow-up question. What I got was there's an interim CEO. What I want. Is what happened to the old dead guy? Tell me about the guy. And if we're going rarer, CEO and if we're going by like suck you in headline logic. Yeah, I'm correct. I stand by my answer. I'll give you. You know what? Matt gets the full point. I'll give you 0.2 points, just because you're okay, I'll take it. She's gonna Disney leadership your way into a win. Disney leadership news. Remember these are all based on real headlines. These are here we go. Well, one of these might be wrong. One of these is real. The first you pick the first two headlines here, balled, Bob ain't no sea word until at least 2025. CEO Bob Jacobs contract by three years. Which one I want to pick is definitely ain't no c-word until at least 2025 mostly because I want to know what happens in 2025. That makes him a Sea World. Well if it gets fired, he becomes you get fired at any point. He becomes a ball. He comes up. He gets fired at any point. I want to know in 2025, like there's like a cutoff date. That's the c word, cutoff date. I'm interested in that. I'm clicking that. Wait for your clicking, it send it through your contract, okay? Because confusing might give everyone the point for the first headline is because I was assuming that the Sea Word was just like a play on words, but you were meaning, CEO. Not the actual. Oh, interesting keyword. Yeah, I was referring back to the horrible. British employee tribunal few weeks ago, that claimed that calling someone a bald SeaWorld calling a man. So a man, a bald see, where is tantamount, right? But then you can see as to where my confusion came in because I thought that c word was CEO and then it didn't make sense because he actually is going to be the CEO you win moving on. No no no. And I talked her way into every point just by being confused. Yes, she can I think infusion is right. You wrote the other headline. It's like it's naturally confusing because you wrote it. Yeah. Okay. This is maybe I should take away your point because Matt wasn't confused. All right? You just don't pay attention to the show enough. All right. Now we got a, we got a next one. Is, there is a leadership change at Jupiter fund. Management. We have all real headlines and I just want to hear your thoughts one, maybe. Which one you'd pick or which one? You think I'll do this game. Jupiter, CEO. Andrew. What all these points I am. Some kind grinding to win this game. Basically, when, when our company ends, I'm auditioning constantly to be a quiz show. Host in a business news environment. It doesn't exist, but I'm this is why? All right? You'll be the next building in O'Brien of business news headlines. Be the only one I wanted him to be like Here we go. There was a, there was a leadership change in Jupiter fund management here. They had to Jupiter CEO, Andrew for Mike, to step down from the financial news, Jupiter CEO, Andrew for Mecca. Announces exit from 68 billion dollar, money manager, these are all real headlights, Jupiter names, new chief executive, as Andrew for Michael prepares to exit financial times. And then, here we go. Jupiter CEO. Andrew for Michael, quits to sit on a beach and do nothing. This is why we read about this one. This one from Fortune CEO of 68 billion dollar investment for joined the great resignation. I just want to go sit at the beach and do nothing. Come on which I love that. That's an actual quote first of all um yeah it isn't actually I love that there's journalists who are taking their jobs so seriously as to just say that he left, Um, and then I love that there's Business Insider. So I'm gonna go with what about Fortune for putting in a buzzword for putting in a buzz term there. They insert a great resides, it was really clever. Yeah, yeah, I I'm really torn between the last two. I'm gonna go with the last one. Great resignation. You added in Emma. I think that the last one is two wordy. I like the more concise fourth option, it conveys the exact same thing. Unless words, You know I'm gonna give this point to I get to ml last time you can't just alt for bad dream you just can't alternate points. Welcome to the game. You know that doesn't matter as a librarian you know that you like the more concise headline better. No, I'm giving it to Max. I'm impressed that Fortune Magazine which I thought was a serious magazine. That they inserted a clickbaity phrase in there. They somehow lumped his Stepping down with the great resignation, has nothing to do with really. You don't read fortune enough because they always have funny clickbaity stuff in their headlines. All right, give me the point. All right, give it to me. Credit Suisse was fine. Keep trying credit, switch is fine over the week. Big fine. Here are the actual headlines. These are ranging from CNBC BBC Washington, Post, New York Times. Here we go. Have fun with these ready. Okay. Oh we start with a press release from Quick credit Suite itself on this topic. And they say, this is what they call this, they call it decision by the Swiss Federal Criminal Court. That their headline. Okay, I gave me nothing. I love it. I just now I I'm already in Moving on Credit, Suisse found guilty in money laundering case. BBC kind of changes a little bit Bank found guilty over instead of eating her, we're prepositioning. CNBC adds another one's credit Suite of vows to overhaul its risk management after a Litany of scandals and then we get a little more juicy from The Washington Post Credit, Suisse fine for facilitating cocaine cash. Oh Ah and then Credit Suisse find over 2 million dollars for facilitating cocaine, cash laundering. And finally from New York Times Credit Suisse is fine for helping a Bulgarian drug rhymes on it. The bulgarians and the drugs. That's the winner. I'm touring there because I I sadly didn't include cocaine cash. I like that term too. What do you think Emma? Well, I will say but I will say that I am torn by number one and the last one because Bulgarian drug growing decision by the Swiss. Yeah, but I individually have a personal preference for like when cases when it's like here's the decision and then I piqued my interest because it's always good. So I'm going with which you, you anything, Gary and drugs. It's click I'm gonna go for the first one decision by the first, one decision by the Swiss federal court, because then imagine you are just a regular news reader going about your day. You see a decision by the Swiss Federal Criminal Court, that's pretty nonspecific open it up and it turns out that they were fined for helping a Bulgarian drug ring, laundry cocaine cash. So I think that the surprise factor is it. Oh yeah, baby. Emma. I don't know if you understand this game. Yeah, I have decided that I'm okay with that. I like the way I play. You told me that there was no right way. I asked, I like it too. I like that, you don't understand this game but you know, The reality is maybe you're right. Okay, moving on. Hi, if I have one this already, Matt, you have 485 points. Emma has 484 points. Moving on Ernst & Young was fine. This week here, the headline And there's a little bit of new ones here. And I want to know which one you which one you like Ernst and Young to pay 100 million dollar, fine after Auditors, cheated on ethics exams. Top accounting, firm find 100 million dollars. After employees cheated on CPA, exams Ernst & Young find 100 million dollars in ethics exam, cheating probes. So, what do you like he want to blame the employees? Do you want to blame the auditor? What are you landing on this one? What are your thoughts? The exam cheating probe. First of all, usually the word probe is always good but in general. Okay. But exam cheating probe betrays, the grand irony of the thing, they they cheated on the ethics exam, that's what they cheated on that has to be in the headline that spectacular just spectacular greatest thing. So it has to be of those. It definitely has to be pay 100 million dollar fine after Auditors. Cheated on ethics exam, I like, yeah, Emma. Where are you in this one? Um, Just some wrong, so much on this game. I don't like losing you guys. I can't agree with Matt. You can't agree. I don't like agreeing with Matt. Okay, I hear, I feel like the match should stop going first. I know, I, I feel like I can't help myself verbal diary. I agree with Matt. That's the best one. Give me my points. Yeah, I think you're both right on this one because. Yeah, I think you you nailed it Matt. I mean it's just it's a beautiful and Ernst & Young really should just maybe this is just quit. I mean, look, just the ethics exam. I know too much. Any of the Auditors care about? but, It. At some point you do have to say like of all the exams we're gonna cheat on. Should it be the ethics? One. Probably not. I'm also just wondering, I would like to see what the ethics exam entails because I want I if it's an Ethics exam. Do you have to study for it or is it just your own effort? Like, I don't on the street is the they study for years to get their CPA to become an auditor you study for years and you know multiple yeah, a lot of stuff to do that and then ongoing education for the ethics exam. It's like one of those like, one, our tests like that is open book. I think you've been drinking exam about like basic ethics questions. Like if someone offers you a billion dollars, wait, is that literally? It's literally that's that's what the word on the street is that the that's the substance of the exam is like, really pretty basic ethics questions. Somebody offers you a bride, do you take it? It's like no but and they needed to cheat. Well, they have to get in order to pass it. The other exam, the CPA exam, you have to be, you have to be human beings greater than 50%, right? But for the and it's only 50% ethics exam was greater than 90%. And even though it was open book and untimed, it was just easier to cheat than look up. All the answers. So they handed around. They actually were sending each other. The answer that like the answers from the prior year. So they were too lazy to cheat off the thing, they were allowed to cheat off of, so they needed to cheat more efficient. I was about efficiency and fact we should be heralding them for being more efficient because it wasn't an exam designed because I can learn part the curriculum. It was the last piece in order to like, you know, be a CPA takes 20 minutes. You have to get a 90% And rather than inefficiently looking through the book with the answers in it. Just give me the answer because I'm gonna find it eventually. Anyway, let me Praise Him for their efficiency. I mean, yeah, I'm gonna not praise him if you're curious. Here's where Ernst & Young is talking about on their own website. I looked at I went to The Newsroom, they're talking about things like Prioritizing emotions is the key to success for business transformation. Come on. No, this is true and he Ernst & Young named a leader in robotic process Automation Services, by Foresters. They don't care about They don't want you to know about this moving on. Final part of our show today. This is the biz pants interview. Gender game. I'm gonna crush this. So, so when Matt was out, Emma lurking. Gave us some questions from Top Executives. Favorite interview questions. She asked the data queen of myself, some of these questions. So I'm going to continue this game. Hey, I want to hear your answers but be, I want you to guess if it was a female executive or a male executive that asked this question. I'm gonna start you off with a couple of softballs, so you understand. No, I don't hear a couple songs. The premise being that, these are Executives favorite in your question. So I'm thinking that gender of the executive who like this question. Yes. Is this a woman or a man? Who, who is this? Is his or her favorite? Got it, you're a question. Well, already it's gonna be, It's gotta be mostly men because how many female Executives even are there so That's interesting. Thought interesting thought. Here's the first one. I remember, I want to start with a couple softball, okay? First one, Tell me about a time when you realize that your own personal bias or experience with privilege was having a negative impact on a colleague or fellow here in the workplace woman. Man, that's that's the woman or Jack Dorsey. Ah yeah you got that one that's that's Mackenzie Mack founder and CEO of MMG, a Global Research. I mean Here's another one. Just to get you going this softball. Man, or woman. What would you do in the event of a zombie apocalypse? Would that be a man? Or a woman, man? I mean, that's the most Manny question I've ever heard. Okay. That's uh yes, man. That's a man. CEO. Ashley Morris Capriotti's Sandwich Shop. Yeah. There's a CEO of capriotti sandwich. All right, now the quiz gets a little more difficult man or woman. If we're sitting here a year from now celebrating what a great 12 months it's been for you in this role, what did we achieve together? Oh, that has to be. No, it's a woman. Because achieved together, no, man, feels like achieving together things. They would, that's not the other together is the thing that was through me off here. Like first of all, we're sitting here celebrating men. Don't celebrate, we just win and move on. Okay, we certainly don't think things together. We achieve things because I achieved them right? Like so it's not a together thing. So, Yeah, it's, it's, I'm giving Matt, a half a point for, for completely falling. For my all my traps. But am I? You're right? It's obviously. not take away your Absolutely not. He Matt Matt's it exactly what I wanted him to say because I agree completely like to get together so man which you agree I was this is CEO. Randy from Shake Shack. I can I knew that was a man immediately because go ahead because you guys, you guys have it all wrong. I'm going to school right now. Go ahead. We're waiting, go ahead. The reason that was a man is because he's saying that they've been here great, 12 months, what did we achieve together? No, because that is giving himself credit if a woman were asking that question. It won't be like what did you what did you achieve you? What did it would be about the other person? Know. Yeah. That's why that's why you got the full point. You have to be upset, I gave him a half a point, come on. Moving on the next one. On a scale of one to ten, how weird are you who asked that a man or woman? How weird are you in a skill from 1 to 10? Oh, that is and Emma. What? Why don't you answer that Emma? Let's go for 10. How weird are you? What would you? I'm not. I think I might give yourself that scale. Unfortunately, I don't know what that means. 0 or 11 11th. What I'm going with a man because that is such like a millennial man question to ask. Yeah, that's okay bro. No not only oh you both get full Bells are not one because no, Matt not only you, right? I mean, you said I'm up, but it is definitely a man, but, but Matt, you were absolutely right. This is the tech, bro. Unfortunately, he's dead but this is Tony his. Yeah, who was the CEO at Zappos? We covered him extensively, he was a bizarre. Let's just say this, I'm gonna say this nice leak in case this family listening, he was a very strange person. That's, that is nice lady. That's all I'm gonna say very strange. Okay. Very strange, right? Two more. I'll let you get out of here, man or woman. If I were to say a bunch of people who know you give me three adjectives that best describe you. What would I hear that? I'm in or a woman. That's a woman. Oh, I think that's a woman. I have noticed that most of these are men and it feels like this is where Damian would put one in. That was a woman. So I'm just gonna play Damien. So, as usual, Matt is Matt plays The woman Inside the game. I didn't even hear the question, I was gonna happen no matter what. I'm gonna subtract a half a point from Matt's full point of being annoying. Yeah, he's absolutely right. And finally, here's a tiebreaker. So I'm gonna call the game tied, I'll say whoever gets this right into the winner, he's still lame. What do you And if you name the company, you can have Sunday off from work. Here's the, here's the, here it is. What do you want to be? When you grow up? That's a man. That's a man, I know it. I mean for the sake of the game, I'm gonna say it's a woman. I think there's probably a 640 that it's a man and I think they thought firefighter don't put, but I think the game just there is an angle here and which it's such an open-ended question. That a woman could have been in a position where she was asked that question. And the reason why it was her favorite is she got up. She got First of all it's very about a one person which is a little bit antithetical to like questions. I would think of one would choose for this but that said it's a it is a place to say look when I was growing up I had a lot of strong female role models and and this is what they did and how they and that forms my desire to be a woman leading. I all that kind of stuff. So I'm gonna go with woman mostly for the sake of the game. And there's a 40% chance that I actually is I feel like he can't be wrong Emma because he's he's saying it's for the sake of the game. And yet he's saying it's a woman but he saw saying something about 640 which so it's like he's trying to get himself a lot about opportunities to be right. Matt. That was really you brilliantly. Said it up so that you really can't ever be wrong. So I'm giving you credit, but Emma Emma. Emma is our big winter today. That is a man that is CEO Stewart Butterfield from slack. The the application that we communicate here. There you go. That's he was the six percent quiz game and he said to It as usual. I think our contestants Matt and Emma for how seriously you take. I actually in life. I like the whole beginning of this game was a waste of time. We could have just done 30 minutes on the line. Seven questions wasted, I wasted my week reading the stupid book and I want to get something out of it. So yeah, I'm looking at mascardi, we are free float media. If you like this, go subscribe and share. I was at greenfin and somebody came up and said they listened to the show, which means someone's doing it. And my guess is that those someone's are not sharing this with their friends or rating it, or liking it, or putting it on social because you know how I know it's never anywhere on social and it's never gets raided and it never gets shared. So go do that. Otherwise demon and he had a work and I had to work at execs. I don't work in. Yeah, you're you can't pay you. So join us. Maybe get Equity already joining equity in our company. Is that was it? Like, I just need. I look. If you can have random losers, walking up to you a green Finn 22 saying they listen. It means that it's possible. We could grow this audience. If we actually advertise our marketing one guy, it was one guy who quite, but we could multiply him, this is really quite a pitch for free float. Okay. And with that,
