Live for the last. Wow. Came out. Weird, I don't know what happened there, so the last time in 2022. It's a business pants. Friday year-end review. Wrap up show. Joined as always by Jesse the money Whisperer and already. The data queen. I am Monica lists Damian is on vacation. So Damien doesn't after doing all of the work for the entirety of the Year. Pulling every story doing all of the like show Daily shows he left before he could do the year review show. How many stories Oh, we'll get to that. There are a lot, there are more stories and there should be. And if you're listening to this, I know you think that like we're a bunch of idiots who just do a podcast and it's like off the top of our heads and we're riffing and whatever it turns out, it takes a tremendous amount of work to follow the news every single day and be relevant, like a lot of work. So, let's just do today, we're gonna do Story of the Year, goodly of the year, as holy is to the year and exhausting is of the Year all though, Jesse I'm a little disappointed because you basically only did the exhausting is of Jesse's tenure during I do like the year she did like nine seconds of the Year boys I suppose to go through. I mean not alive. Yeah I'm gonna call I'm gonna call it lame but let's do The year review. Are you ready to see a little bit of a year review? I can't believe it's your review time already. It is and speaking of reviews are already just so for Insider knowledge, Ari's had a like a HR review on her calendar that she wants to have with me on just her calendar for the entirety of the year. We haven't had a review because Ari doesn't ask me for it. To be fair, I saw the reviews that you guys did at some point last year in the drive. Yeah, they're not very valuable. I don't know if you guys like Ari said, like I didn't know work and everyone was annoyed me. And now Jesse saying our Reviews are terrible. It's all you're under review is apparently all coming out. All right, numbers here at business pants, we pulled over 16,000 headlines this year 16,000, that's not me, exaggerating a number because apparently Damien does do something. It's not make money number of headlines that he's read. Yeah. I mean like the number of headlines that you have to read to pull. The 16,000 is exponentially more like those are the ones that he curated out of the headlines. Right? So we're talking 100 plus thousand headlines that we read every single year. That's what Damien spent his time doing because it's not making money. I can just really like this, it's not making money, but these are the headlines and a little look inside of Jamie's brain because what Damien does when he pulls the headlines as he categorizes the mall. So it's not like oh that's interesting and just put it in a folder, it's categorizing organizing. There's a whole thing. Some of the headlines, here's some of the headlines that were my favorite. These are the things that Damian selects, these are things that here's one headline is chess playing robot, breaks child's finger at Moscow, that was pulled this year. Or this one, which you can see is very valuable to the business news. The cocaine in Australia, contains barely any cocaine, he's probably outraged. He was outraged at that or how about avoid saying these 10 corporate buzzwords unless you want to annoy all your co-workers? I kind of want to know what those are. I know. Well I think that one was actually like a self-help thing like Or finally, which was one of the better stories of the Year. Police say, Arby's manager. Urinated in stores, milkshake, mix. Raise your hand if you want to go to Arby's right now. Well I didn't even know. Arby's existed. Oh sure. oh, the newest flavor of milk. Shake. No, don't worry, it's terrible. Not great. All right, here's the here's the full day to Sweet from the free flow. Business Pants, Daily News, Headlines of the Year 16,580 headlines, is what we pulled. 12% of the headlines were in our woke data category. Woke data basically covers ESG woke-ish, woke adjacent, kind of stories. 9% of the headlines were in CEOs rule, which is basically ridiculous. CEO, Behavior 7% of the headlines, were stakeholders rule, which covers a lot of like unionizing and workers and Community, kind of impacts and things like that. The most used word in our headlines. This year was CEO Which appeared 1,767 times and that's just in the headlines, right? Like that says, CEO blah, blah, blah headline, right? The most used phrase, like I used Linguistics processing to actually associate terms together and the most associated terms were Are you ready? Yeah, CEO. Elon Musk says oh That was the most used for you guys. You can guess where? The rest of this show is gonna go. It was the year of musk musk. In fact, got, as many headlines 1173, as the pandemic and the war in Russia and climate change combined. That's how many headlines he we got of him. That we pulled reporters are obsessed with him. Keeping in mind that we're curating the news, but we are curating. Effectively the biggest news every single day, like we're just consolidating curating. And you know, the ones about robots breaking children, his fingers, that's like the fun stuff that we see, that one's just great. Yeah, that one's pure fun. Anytime a robot breaks, a child, the most mentioned companies of the year in the headlines were Amazon, Twitter, Tesla and meta. They over ranked as a company of the year. And with that, let's do the real show which Is starting with the story of the year. Did you pick these or did Damon Oakleys Damien, did nothing. I picked, I had to go through 16,000 headlines twice because I did the story of the year and as holiest of the year, which was my category. So I'm doing it twice story of the week, every week this year, but you get to fix Story of the Year. That's right. Yeah. So, take all this with a grain of salt, all right. Story of the year, the starting point has to be Russian forces and invade Ukraine, which I, if we're being objective, was absolutely the story of the year, if for no other reason, then the unintended consequences of it have been massive. Like oil spikes in cost driving recession, fears in the US and driving the GOP to push back on everything the Biden Administration said, because oil was so expensive, right? You have Texas hearings about ESG because oil is expensive, because we're not drilling enough as a result of a war in the Ukraine, you Have Elon Musk is involved in it. He actually activates starlink for Ukraine himself, he was trying to get more headlines, he's trying to get more headlines and then threatens to because it's it's so expensive to turn off starlink in Ukraine. So he's literally in the middle of the conflict and he's he's pretend brokering deals on Twitter, like an idiot. Um the green infrastructure deal that happened in the summer fall, effectively happens in part because of what's going on in Russian Ukraine. We need to secure energy, Independence, more than we already have. And you can even argue. That FTX and the death of crypto this year, the crypto chill is in part because when the war breaks out, everyone changes their Investments to invest in safer things, in crypto is not safe at all. It was the beginning of the drop of crypto prices, that meant crypto companies were all scrambling to get Capital FTX starts. Bailing, some of them out. Including Alameda and FTX ends up using customer funds, to bail out itself, and fails miserably in a big pile of fraud. That's just the unintended consequences, like that's like off the top. Of a war happening. Russia versus Ukraine. So that's still going on. Yeah. Very well. And ski just was in front of Congress. Yeah. Did you and he mentioned the energy thing. He was like Silver Lining Europe is doing this because of us, you're welcome. Yeah I mean it's weird. You're welcome paraphrasing. You know. Yeah it's a little weird number two story of the year. And there's no way to avoid this Elon Musk makes 43 billion dollar on solicited to take Twitter private, you know. just, Includes Elon Musk saying he's gonna buy a Twitter. Elon Musk actually proposing to buy Twitter. You must pulling out of trying to bite Twitter. Oh, Elon Musk has a secret child and guess what? He bought Twitter, that one's my favorite. But it goes back to even further because Elon Musk took a stake in Twitter and didn't disclose his stake in Twitter. He was offered a board seat, then didn't take the board seat, then maybe unsolicited bid, then they pulled the bid back then said it was Bots. He said he was saving Humanity. He said he couldn't save Humanity because of all the Bots then he ended up being forced to buy Twitter, then fires all of Twitter and with holds all of their salary's then auctions off everything. Then changing everything about Twitter, the n-word was used more time since he bought Twitter than ever in the history of Twitter. On Twitter everything about it. He bought the man just sucks oxygen out of the universe. Its Literally the, the look at me show with most of the year he stepping down a CEO, right? It's supposedly says so yeah. He made a poll. So that's, that's all I take it. He's gonna take his place. Probably someone as equally as egoic as him. Ooh. Egoic, it's like heroic only the opposite of it. It's probably gonna be a sycophant. I mean, he's probably just gonna pick like a loyal, Lackey to take over so that he can just continue. This is company can control it. I don't know why anyone is still on Twitter. Just to everyone, just get off if you don't know, you know, what else? He threatened us with us mean Twitter users. He said that you could only vote on Twitter's on his Twitter polls. If you have, if you're have like a verified account. So if you It was like force. I could like the fact that inclusive, you can do whatever he wants, but it's all dumb. We did, we don't need it. The number three story of the year and there's there's you're gonna sit tight because there's six of these. So you got more than I should the number three story of the year is unionization. Is just a short list one. Oh God, that dial it back. So, Starbucks Amazon, Chipotle Activision, Apple Microsoft Trader, Joe's, Kellogg's Home Depot. They all had votes face votes there was organizing and this on the back of last year where you had an equal amount of interest in unionization really, it's the post pandemic and these are the front. A lot of these are front line workers and the ones that aren't there. They have problems with diversity in the workplace. They like woke up to the fact that yeah they got Employees himself, Scott, Wolk, and really upset. A lot of things that these companies are doing discriminating against them. Pay gaps, CEO, pay ratios treatment in the workplace harassment. And when you have this evil concoction of shit that you throw at your employees, it turns out they don't like it and they might do something. Four, I think this is a big year for this enemies lists. Enemies has gotten to me. Oh, who doesn't have enemies? Rhonda santis takes aim at woakes. CEOs, says the headline, Disney is an enemy Rhonda santis made refugees in enemy. Oh yeah. And Sanctuary states and cities. And enemy BlackRock is an enemy Larry Fink. We don't like that guy. He's a little too Jewish for us. Peter Thiel said, ESG is the CCP the Chinese Communist Party. He is the enemy. Okay, you know, he listed the enemies, he said he said the woke or like making us enemies. They're discriminating against us. And then listed the woke things, he hated as an enemies list that included Wall Street, Warren Buffett, ESG, elastic enemies. Roe v Wade was struck down. And we started keeping lists of things like companies who are willing to ship their employees to places where you know Healthcare is available to 50% of the population. We started keeping list of all the tech companies that are tracking you. In fact, there were stories about how Google that they had to be asked to stop tracking. If someone was going to an abortion, click clinic and simultaneously. Google was in a position where they were sending people to fake clinics. They had fake clinics that people put on their maps and in order to like confuse them and stop them from getting health care that they need. So and then showed up at a church. Yeah, that's it. Did it happened? And then finally China. China is its own enemy list, but we had tiktok is the enemy. We had supply chain is an enemy arguably. You could say, uyghurs are an enemy to the supply chain and and China. So there was just a lot of enemies list. It was just a, really a list of grievances all year long. Mostly had a conservative party but the in the US but everywhere it's just evens after grievance. Everyone's complaining tiktok getting banned from federal provided cell phones. Definitely be enemy. And I mean, number one, apparently people don't like that, apparently. Ah, number five on my list. Fraud is back, baby. It's big time for fraud fraud. Where's my cheers? Oh the oh, my clouds are called. I thought that would be a much bigger. Cheer fraud is back though. FTX in sandbank been freed. Do you remember the CEO of Nikola the company that took a electric truck that didn't work oh shot a commercial or demo of it and they rolled it down a hill. So look like it worked. Well, that guy got. He got convicted of fraud this year DWS which was a subsidiary of Deutsche Bank. They had their offices raided for greenwashing, for fraud for selling ESG products in a way that they said they, they said they were but they actually were, it was like frog. Yeah, then yeah, I should just said, Deutsche Bank. Everybody knows that they're frogs, Elizabeth Holmes, and sunny, bowling, both convicted this year for frog. Investor fraud. Not Customer fraud. Oh, that is the most annoying part that there were not found guilty of any. Consumer Fraud, excuse me. You lied to them. Oh yeah. And the consumers are the one who just like put their health at risk. But the investors were wronged, they lost like five dollars. Yeah. And you know, was Wall Street still woke. Yes. Anyway, Wall Street is woke and just to prove it. Well, as Fargo just this week, committed was founded guilty of effectively fraud for fraudulently, like foreclosing on people's houses, repossessing cars charging fees. This the consumer, right? The group that that convicted or that settled effectively with wall with Wells, Fargo the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau was set up after the financial crisis. And when Trump came in, the conservatives got power in this country, they wanted to shut it down, they wanted a kneecap it and somehow that Little Engine That Could is still ticking. Charging several billion dollars to someone who was illegally foreclosing on people's shit. In fact, there were 94 headlines this year that had just the word fraud in them, so it was a big year for fraud. I'm really happy actually frauds back. Fraud, is that give us job security? I mean we basically are naming directors and can tell you like which ones were on boards where fraud happened, like we're doing stuff like that. So I'm hoping It's this says oh I would like to know where the fraud is and this is John Fraud, Smith fraud is on that company. And then finally The Last Story of the Year Has to be, and this might be my vote if there's a tie. Beyond meat, vegan food, executive accused of fighting man's nose, an executive at beyond meat. Nose in the parking, lot of an Arizona State football game. It was really so bizarre, like so far through it happened. It is bizarre. So those are your options for story of the year Russia. Invading Ukraine musk and Twitter unionization and enemies lists. Grievance lists fraud back baby and man bites, nose and parking lot. To. Okay, I'm gonna go first. You know, I really like those enemies list category. and this is how my friends have now learned what ESG is because it is such an enemy. It's everybody's enemy. I know not great. They're like oh you selling data, that's ESG related. I'm also loving the fraud thing because fraud case studies just really fancy. And you know I love you my fancy again, that's not appropriate. Make my day but I'm gonna go definitely with the Russia invasion of Ukraine because You know, it happened earlier in the early in the year and it's crazy. It's still going on and it has affected everything so he probably has to be that Jesse. That's what I really took me on a roller coaster there. And I was like, oh she won't pick what I'm picking, but yeah. Rushing, you crazy. Can I make one one last ditch effort to consider An executive at a vegan company, eating a man's nose. Can I just, I just want you to consider that that's story of the year is Russia and Beijing. I don't think there's any question about it, which is unfortunate, because it's not nearly as interesting as some of the other ones. Let's do good list to the air. Are you are up? I got five different little tidbits for you. I'm gonna start with a company that is just in a category of its own. And that's Patagonia as good as the year. it's just Patagonia just gave away the company. They committed the annual profits, which are about 100 million dollars to be used to protect nature by A diversity, support thriving communities and fight the environmental crisis. And of know that part of the 100-million dollars is towards lobbying, right? Lobbying for protecting the climate, which is super important. and I've had a, As good as the year, it's Patagonia giving its company away man. Unheard, I love that me to me. Number two, these are some of the climate change. Stories. That gave me hope this year and we're gonna start with beavers the cows Department of First job listing for a beavers. I love this story. Beavers are capable. Creasing water storage and creating natural fire breaks with their dams. And, you know, California is burning to the ground. So you know, not all heroes were keeps and some of them have a conic, buck teeth, love the pictures. I'm all about goes, I mean, so, You love the Beavers? Well like I love that. There's a job. Yeah, that someone's specific to Beavers the beaver management team. Yeah, I kind of want to know who who took the chest higher for that job, right? Jesse wants to fly not qualified. But like, are the qualifications. That's what I'm wondering. I want to see the resume of the person I've got that job. We'll find them on LinkedIn. No worries. All right, continue with our climate change fight. Climate change is luring Engineers away from Big Tech was a headline and climate base reported more than half a million people applying for jobs through its website. This is people leaving Facebook leaving Google to go join Companies and initiatives that are you going to use their skills to fight climate change? So, this is people using their powers for good. This is like the whole Disneyland thing, right? Like you go to Disneyland. Everything's beautiful. It's perfect. And you just think if all these people use their creative skillful powers for good. What the hell, right? I do get the sense of this was a first half of the Year sort of headline because in the second half of the year, they didn't have to leave those companies. They all got. So that was way easier. That's true. We'll still take them though, that's fine. Number three for climate change, fight world's first carbon board attacks, lands in Europe. And this was from last week and Porter Goods that are destroying. The Earth will see taxes associated with the carbon emissions. This is a yes for Europe. And this is a, we need this. Everywhere is awesome. And the US US installs record solar capacity as prices of solar panels. Keep falling. Maybe this is agree that solar panel prices in this house so that like when the power goes out we can be on solar. It's smarter it's better or whatever and we can't get a permit from the town. So now there's like a giant polar vortex, gonna hit my house, I'm gonna lose power and I have solar panels on the roof and it's all hooked up and I can't turn it on because until they prove it. Yeah, that's right. Nobody That was climate change fight of 2022. Now. Okay, my third category 2022 is a year of the anti plate Yes, it is. I'm talking about these are good. Stop Flying. This year. Canada's tax on, private jets, and Yachts, went into effect. They're going after the 1% that contribute to 15% of carbon emissions every year. 1%, I mean, There's already but private jets. Getting taxed. Yes, please. And my wife. I'm in the one percent. This bothers me. Don't go after me. Well just do you have a private jet? Yeah I haven't seen your private jet. Yeah I do try to expense that have a private canoe. I farted a lot while I'm on it. So there's a mission's. for the rest of us, Jesse the 99% The summer 2022 was a summer of hell for flying, 2022 flight cancellations were twice as many as 2021 flight cancellations. In the us alone, 100,000 flights were canceled. And I know this is super annoying, super inconvenient, but it was great for the environment, you remember 2020, and how wonderful it was when planes were on the ground. Yeah. We covered the story in 2020, where there's this a city in India or a town in India that could see a mountain for the first time because the promotion lifted. Yeah, yeah. Love those now sadly, they probably can't see that mountain range anymore, but they can't. Continue with the anti fly here. Name and shame. So everybody private jet tracking and shaming them was all the rage so much. So the big baby must suspended. The Twitter account of a 20 year old kid, keeping tabs on his plane and Taylor Swift the world's most polluting celebrity blamed, her Air Miles alone in her plane out to friends and family. So she was like, don't blame me. Come on. Wow. Like you the sentence is loaning her plane out, right? Exactly. So I love all the anti-flake. sentiment of this year, even if it was accidental all so it gave Business Insider Countless a lot of stories, we're saying that that Ari liked this reworked at Pratt & Whitney. Don't don't discredit me in my own category it's so she basically hates her former employer. That's What she's making up for it now and she's going hard at it. Yeah, everybody please my favorite Matrix so I don't have to go back to my home. Yeah, save Ari. Number. Four, we have equality fights. Oh yep. And I'm starting with a governance headline. Women must have, at least 40% of 4 seats by July 2026. The EU, finally agrees, but are they gonna have 40% influence? Oh yeah. Try their best. We will keep them in check though. Now good. This is the trying their best category, stop it. Don't worry, we'll go. For head on. The past two topics when I do mine. Abby's also fighting for Quality fights, rabbis for Repro or Repro Florida's. Synagogue, Florida, synagogue files, religious freedom suit over abortion ban, abortion ban was everywhere. You know, companies were like well fly out there for your abortion, you know, blah blah. But I love this synagogue just being like, what the heck, half our congregation. I hope they still calm congregation half or Jewish. People are women and we're gonna fight for their rights. Let's go also on this CVS, drops prices, for its tampons, and will pay the pink tax for the states, that still that a sales tax on. Female, whatever menstruation products. and you know, female hydrants Period products there, whatever. And because even know fun people have rights French man wins, right? Not to not be fun at work and wrongful termination lawsuit. You have the right to not be all right and we're here for you. So that's my equality fights. And my last category is oopsies and mostly corporate oopsies. I think. And we're going to start with the most serious one. We're gonna well yeah, yeah, you'll see. We'll start with the most serious one, which is not a joke, but rest ones are more jokey but all major. Opioid manufacturers. Distributors and retailers have offered to settle the settlement pot exceeds, 50 billion dollars and that was this year. Come on 50 billion, but how much are they being sued for? I'm not sure. I believe, Walgreens Walmart and CVS, where the last holdouts and they settled earlier this month or late last month. We also have in oopsies snaps messy mess layoffs happened so fast some employees were locked out of the work tools before and during the meetings in which they were being fired during the final one. Yeah they're like we have some bad news. You can't log back in. I hope you got the message, right? Like you're gone. Next Ukrainian hackers created, fake profiles of attractive women to trick Russian soldiers into sharing their location and this just hits all the spots first of all, creativity. Second of all predictability of mostly men being like, ooh, yeah. I'll talk to you and then, you know, it's great. That's correct. Beyond meat CEO arrested for biting man's nose. After college football game where I talk about another chance to vote for it baby. But we forgot about Tyson Foods CFO, who was arrested for getting drunk and falling asleep in the wrong house. Yeah. No. I like just the year, I know. Yeah. Because he's our like you know and Kanye AKA. Yes yes. So what White lives matter shirts because two black radio host own the trademark so he's Conyers sorry. Well played radio host. All right, summarizing up goodly list of the year, you have Patagonia, you have the climate change. Like nice fight stories. You have no more flights. Flights suck. You have equality fights. And you have basically the apology to her in which we laugh at companies who have to make up for their stupid mistakes. Just you have. Do you want to vote first? Yeah, I like the anti flight year. oh, really That is. My husband's biggest fear right, round them, because he deals with actual plays that are flying right now. And when the plane is grounded is just like, I, this is hard for me because I really want to vote for beavers. Every deeply want to vote for beavers, but the climate change fight is not going as well. So I know you're celebrating small stories or whatever. but, Yeah, it's not great. In fact I know like Jesse and I are going to cover it next and it's not looking great. So I'm gonna go all so with the anti play. Yeah. Yeah. Wow. We're all in agreeance on all of these. Yeah, the crowd is too. All right, which brings us to Asshole is to the year. Oh, prepare yourself. Is it a lot of these? I could not narrow it down. So, but I'm going to keep each one of them quick because there's not a lot I have to say about them. First up is Howard. Schultz Holocaust blanket. Those of you who haven't been paying attention, Howard Schultz is the triple Boomerang CEO at Starbucks. He came back again and he came in to basically bust unions. And in a speech when he joined or just before he joined, he compared, he used a holocaust blanket as a metaphor for taking care of, one of them, one another and in an effort to talk about how they should unionize, right? Like in the Holocaust, they were in a union I guess, I don't know. It was not great and we've gotten a lot of mileage out of the idea of the Holocaust blanket, all year. So, Howard Schultz, you inadvertently became one of the assholes of the Year. Number two, this headline, and everyone behind it. Meditate them employees. They can't discuss abortion at work in groups of more than five like-minded people. Five. Like this is before Roe v. Wade was struck down in this country. But it was ramping up because there was the leak, right? And after the leak of the decision, meta told their employees. You're not allowed to sit around and talk about it in, in large groups. Wow. whoever decided that first of all, five six, Six is a quorum like six. You're ready? To overthrow the government. And yeah, that's it. We're all dead. It's six five. All right. We're on the edge. My third option for as holy is of the year is actually blowhards. Dip blowhards. I'm defining as people we listen to even though there's no real reason we should listen to them. Other than the fact that they're rich in loud. Just generally what a blowhard is. I have an A-list, a b-list and a c-list to blow heart. It's like, yeah. So these are the people who get into the blowhard club immediately. They get they go in the back door, like the service entrance. They're brought up through the kitchen and they're in the club before you even know it. That would be Elon Musk. I mean obviously Jeff Bezos. Jamie dimon. Warren Buffett. Joe Rogan. And Kanye West. Jerks that I'm pretty sure that's the blowhard service entrance actually. This is funny because you know Warren Buffett, teddy bear Buffett Wow. Definitely an A-list blowhard the b-list and these would be the people who have to stand up in the line outside but always get in the club. Okay, there's still in the line outside they're like looking in the b-list includes Ron DeSantis Jack Dorsey. Bill Gates. And Charlie Munger, they're like, I know a guy Charlie's like, you know, my my buddy Warren's already in there, my best buddy. And, and he's like waiting in line outside and then finally, there's the seedless And these are the people who come up over and over again in very small ways and you probably don't know half of them. See Lister would be like a leon cooperman who, yeah. Like, both of you are looking at me. Like, I don't know who the fuck Leon cooperman is a giant blowhard, who loves to say, Elizabeth Warren is a terrible person. And he's got that hair and number one now, he's a billionaire, hedge fund Guy. Howard Schultz, who we are to discuss crypto celebrities as a group. Is there any more blow Hardy Kardashian having to settle with the SEC for being crypto? That's pretty ridiculous. Carl ican. Early of Ari, just her head exploded. Carl, I can't earlier this year when on a random tangent. Of activist investing and which he tried to take activists and McDonald's. And what was the other one? There was somebody else where he tried about pigs and crates. Oh, is that the guy that has a daughter? His daughter? He's a billionaire. His daughter was upset discovered pigs Pig crates, and there were some activists motion around it. It got 0% of the votes because Carl, I can't really didn't care that much about this, because when he cares, he usually Garners support and they get, you know, he gets bored seats. Ryanair CEO, Michael O'Leary, who said all sorts of things during the pandemic. But he's always blow Harding, about something, lockdowns and covid, protocols, and all sorts of stuff, crying CEO this year brand. What his name Brayden Wallock, who on LinkedIn cried because they had to lay off his employees that guy. These are sealers bold magistrates in the UK. This was the year boldness became just call someone. All right, I'm gonna say this, okay? And it's gonna be offensive. Are you know know someone at their job in the UK called the co-worker. A bald cont. Oh and the these UK meds, this UK magistrates did not have a problem with the c word. They said calling him bald was a sexual harassment, that's not a joke. That was a real ruling. They do love that word there. I know the UK. They use that words. Like it's not a thing in this country. It's a thing there. It's not all right? Yeah, bald terrible. So you got a whole bunch of blowhards and I just can go on, but they ate list. Is what matters is here. The seedless they're waiting to get in the club and hopefully they brought like an attractive friend because that's the only way they're really getting in. And then as the secondary piece of this number four asshole of the year is media coverage of the blowhards. Why do we spend so much time listening to these idiots? There's so many other things happening. How was our Paragon of like thought leadership? Joe Rogan and Kanye West? How is that? Like are they, are they making more money over this or like what that has to be the incentive, right? Like they're making more like paper them clickbait. No, I mean, the people covering? Yeah. They're making money off the clickbait. Yeah, it's it. So, so we have a friend who was working for a massive publication and I've heard about how they literally look at Google Trends, every single day, the trends yesterday, the transit today and they write stories that are whatever's trending. They don't write stories about like what's Happening. They're not real stories. They're doing whatever is happening on social and people are arguing about or so. Real stories are dead. They are just covering whatever. Number five. And this is in contravention to the goodest of the year, which is fake news. A missions are back baby. Yeah. Everybody loves a good a mission. Here, here's what happened in a mission for the SEC wants all public companies to report their carbon emissions. That's a good thing. Except that in reporting them what we're going to see. And we are seeing is Amazon says it's Planet warm and carbon emissions grew 18% in 2021. Europe's airlines are pushing for weaker Aviation emissions rules. Everyone's pushing back European commission, moves ahead with plans to classify gas and nuclear as sustainable in the context, which is a sustainability labeling system. Gas. Gas gas gasoline is that is systemic greenwashing I don't agree with it. Yeah, and the reason why they do it is because the nordics pump a lot of gas and they can't alienate somebody because heaven forbid, we do the right thing and alienate somebody companies are buying large number of carbon offsets that don't cut a missions. Climate change 1.5 degrees Celsius warming threshold to be passed in nine years. As a mission's hit record, high record high. We can't take less flights and get ourselves out of this anymore. And finally, the US is warming 68% faster than the rest of the world. Billionaires and missions aren't helping. City 8% faster than were warming faster than And China. Ground them all. Oh. Number six on as holy is to the list. And I just have to say this is the Supreme Court of the United States of America. Yeah, yeah. And then number seven, is this headline Popeye says supply chain problems are making it tough to rid chicken of MSG. Yes, correct, Popeye's plane supply chain on the fact that they have to serve you MSG position. Is that can you just see like, a group of men on, like, the c-suite of Popeyes in a room being like everybody else is blaming supply chain? Let's just do it. I mean, it's crazy. Like, you family takes her plane. Oh, my family takes my plane and the supply chain. Put the MSG in there. I don't know where it got that. I don't know how it got there. So that's your wonderful Roundup. You have the Holocaust blanket. You have met us saying, you can't discuss abortion in groups of more than five. That's just funny to me. You have blowhards which I think is probably inevitable winner. Here, you have media coverage of the blowhards which gives it a run for its money. You have a missions being back, you have the Supreme Court and you have chicken MSG supply chain problems. Oh okay I'm gonna go first. I like going first so nobody are I just I just wait I just wait for Ari to go first cuz I know she's going to. I'm just like she's gonna say she wants to go. I guess so annoyed with meta because when they say employees can't discuss something or other you know, they have a technology to see if their employees are discussing that thing or not and they're gonna use it whenever they want to fire. Somebody not use it evenly across people they're like oh this person. Oh okay. Oh, you violated this? Five like-minded rule. Four months ago and now you're like go now that you're trying to unionize your gone. Here's the amazing part actually about that. They not only have to would have to listen. They would have to realize that all five people agree because they have to be like-minded like so they have all their shit. They know which way I believe they have to know which way every employee I'm not on Facebook products so some of us are reasonable human beings. In fact, I still guess what. I still have friends and I enjoy not really, I don't like people but I would have friends and I I enjoy the world and I don't need social media for it. It's so anyway, everybody should quit meta and go fight climate change, but regardless I'm gonna go with the Supreme Court because they're ruining our lives. Wow. Okay. All right, I can't say that's wrong. You are assholes. okay, I Think that I'm I'm very between blowhards and media coverage of flow Hearts. Because They're gonna do what they're gonna do. Like, these guys are at these people are assholes. Well, they're all guys, but we're doing. We don't have to amplify their asshole yet as Holiness, right? So I think I'm gonna choose media coverage that I love that. But that puts me in a position to make a choice, which means that I win. So the name of this game, I thought all the games. That's all the games. He copied it from his children. Yeah. Or Take copy it for me. You beat them in every game, you play. Oh my God, I crushed them. That's the only way we play like like Nintendo. Like originally, I have it and they get us so annoyed because it's like I whip them and then like I was like, yeah, that's what loser say, I don't want to play winners. Keep at it until they win. All right, what will it be? I am. I'm gonna go with the blow hards themselves. That's what I'm gonna go with. Um, I know that the the media is gonna cover the blowhards and have forever. I think the blowhards himself are blow hardier than they've ever been. I think what Trump taught everybody with election denialism is that you can say a thing and it people will just believe you. And therefore reality and then you'll see it displayed in newspapers. I mean, literally, every one of these blowhards is effectively making a reality of their own in some way, like their Jack Dorsey reinvented his time at Twitter. And the reasons why I mean, he threw his own board under the bus. And he was the most influential, according to our metrics person on that board. It was his company, he was the founder. And like what do we doing here? Jamie dimon says, whatever is expedient. Elon Musk says wants to control the narrative. These are people who recognize that they can say whatever they want and get away with it. I'm going to go with the blowhards and I'm going to say that I'm right because I said it, all right. Means exhausting into the year. If you're not exhausted by the show already. Let's do Jesse's exhausting as the year. There's only two of these which is there's only two 19 of the other ones each. Yeah, I wanted to keep this short succinct to the point because we've only got two categories here that all of the exhausting shit fell into. So we have First category, women are still undervalued in business and the workforce and our data will corroborate it. That's true. Oh, look at Justice selling, I'm selling. So you won't believe. So these are some headlines, you won't believe how many all female CEO CFO Duos, run the 500, largest public us companies. That was two. And there you won't believe it. There's so many right, me, too. When I first started out, I was like, oh, this is awesome. And then I read it. And there's two literally, too, and we have, then we have guests. What yesterday was this was on December 18th, guess what? Yesterday was Latina Equal, Pay Day, which marks the symbolic date to which Latinas have to work almost two years to catch up to what their male co-workers earned in 2021 alone. so the key following year, the following year in December, they can finally make similar to what men are making their that the white male counterparts are making and then we have being born white male. I'm just say it. Oh, so privileged and then. Yeah, women make up only 5% of the music tech industry. That's probably because there's a long history of being sexualized. Oh yeah, you covered that before. These are not great. Definitely exhausted. Number one is women. The continued undervalue Miss. The extent. That's a word of women. So yeah. Are you had said there were equality fights and I am directly challenging that with you because I still think. Yeah, I think that women, you know, we're still marginalized. We still have a long way to go. And then when you break it down and not just look at white women, you break it down into race, then we have even further to go. you left out of that list, like, It like Roe v Wade, which is undervaluing effectively, 50% of the population, right? But Israel V8 in the business or the well, I mean it's women but it's not like a business, Workforce specific lens. It's just like in general you covered it on the Supreme Court. We got it we got it. Yes. Okay work and then this is my next category we're still not doing enough to fight climate change. Sorry Ari I see your optimism I honor it but we have very long way to go and we have environmental secretaries saying that they're doing a lot by using permanent cups. That's their contribution. Standing in front of their country saying on are saying. This is what I do to help the environment. Meanwhile we have cringey. That was cringey. Meanwhile we have Matt our CEO who's decking his house out to go off-grid like she could have made some contributions similar to that some it'll be true another five million dollars and then we have climate contradictions. So even as Egypt host the climate Summit, they are selling fossil fuels. It's their priority to sell fossil fuels. So we have All sorts of countries, establishments organizations contradicting, their efforts in quotes to fight climate change. And then we have greenwashing very similar, Matt covered it. We have Amazon says, it reduced, its use of single plastic single-use plastic. Yet they actually went up by 18%, so he died. So, we have effectively two options here, Ari. And that is, women still get the short end of every stick or the climate, gets the short end of every stick. So which stick and do you want to take? So, I am Oh man, both are so exhausting. However, I feel like people care a little bit more about the climate than women, because nobody cares about women, really, you're a woman. I pick, women are still undervalued as most exhausting of this women. There it is. I actually am gonna go I'm gonna go with that, and I'm gonna go with that specifically, because It goes far beyond like in a corporation. All the efforts around, diversity are actually actively being pushed back against by mostly men, right? Like you have Ron DeSantis who says you can't in Florida. If you're a corporation train your employees about diversity or bias and That it's it's insane. Like they're they actually are taking The word critical. As a negative like being critical of something as in thinking, critically of something, trying to understand something better. And its implications is a negative now, that's absurd. So that's it. The most exhausting that God, what a terrible showing you And everything and that's a year of exhaustion. But that gets us to Who won the Year. We're gonna say predictions for when day after vacation. This is our last show of 2022. When we come back in 2023, we're going to do a prediction show. So we're gonna say predictions for them. Who won the year? Are you? well, you're not going to agree with me, because it's you, but Who won this year, Renewables won this year and I know you don't believe me, but renewable energy has grown faster this year than predicted. I know that predicted the bar so low and we met and exceeded it. But Also Matt, you spoke at length about this or Ukrainian and Russian war. If we can see a silver lining about this is that it is a catalyst for Europe and the world to become more energy independent and its largely focused on growing renewable energy. I know they're talking about nuclear energy but they're also throwing tons of money and riding into laws. The need for renewable energy specifically solar and wind energy. So so are he's going with Renewables. Won the year. I'm going to feel dubious about that. Jesse who won the year, she's not wrong. I said the lgbtq plus Community with the passing of the respect for Marriage Act, which protects marriage equality. They went there. These are like, so he after that, terrible tell her I'm going to say, there's no doubt won the year Elon Musk won the year. He was the only narrative and it was horrible. Uh, but I'm gonna give outside of Elon Musk. The real winner of the year for us was actually re the day, who spent the entire year, building board saber metrics the antidote to every ESG data and analytics problem you've ever had go buy it. That's it from free flow for 2022. We're on vacation until sometime when Damien gets back next year, it's probably, like six weeks from now. Hopefully have a good holiday season if you celebrate any holidays. And if you don't, enjoy the fact that everyone, The world is yours and it's quiet until then goodbye.
