Hello. Oh, some dancing going on, live from your ice cubes. Favorite icicle to business pants Friday, show here for February 3rd, Street Studios, featuring are the data Queen. A little bit of dancing. Jesse. The money whisper, a lot of dancing and nobody else. Matt is in icy. Boston begging for cash, except wait. I see that what happened Well, it's so cold here that my meeting got pushed to from a person meeting to a. We don't go out outside meeting because it's cold. So I'm now Inside doing Zoom calls do business deals actually happen on Zoom. I don't I feel skeptical about this, you got to be there eating eating together hugging The actually, all of those things sound horrible to me. So I'm really glad I met him in person. Meeting hugging horrible touching right on today's weekly wrap-up Tech austerity, Sushi. Terrorism drive through only gay hating, fast food, chicken and bleach drinkers. Wow, That sounds amazing. Ready. If you weren't in, you're in now? Let's do this thing. What is this new us? What is this our new us this music? Because zuka happy it is, I don't feel like this. All right, here we go. Story of the week. I got only three for you this week. Thank God. First off the boring, one text biggest companies, discover austerity to the relief of investors. So, it was the worst year on record Wall Street Tech, they lost they combined four trillion dollars in market value. Is that possible? Wow, I don't know if I buy that figure, just their losses would be a giant company. As a reaction to this many tech companies have begun the Year by championing austerity, which basically means layoffs and buy backs. That's really what it means. And no, I mean, French perks. So like, do they still get their? Yeah, no dryers. In fact, one of the stories and as holy is the week that Matt will cover later is about that very topic. But no, that's one of the things that supposedly is dying. But there's no actual data or proof of how much money they actually spend on these perks or giving or any of that stuff. So, who knows here's the thing. I hate about the story. Most When we look back on it, people are going to say Elon Musk pioneered this. He bought Twitter laid off, half the staff improved don't lock the doors, lock the doors, sold. Everything was an insane asylum for like seven minutes and yet Twitter has not fallen into the ocean. And, and now all the other companies are like, well, if we do that like adults, we can cut, like, 20% of our staff too. Probably. I mean, that could be one spin on this. The other spin, I thought the spin was more about how Zuck screwed up by spending too much money on. Buying into the metaverse, but who knows? I I think he's still gonna spend that money on the metaverse. I just everybody else. Yes. So all you people who were saying that Zuck was dead and the whole thing was over. They've been doing the best so far earlier this year, he had the largest gain in their history, two days ago. Second Story week, that's the first story, Tech austerity Second Story of the week. 30, even the turf. It just doesn't qualify here. So, It's a grandpa word. Like a Mortimer J. So he should be offended by the use of this word. Excuse me. I mean, you can I need more contacts for that? Let's move on. Yeah, please. I don't know if I like where that was going. Where's my? I'm gonna give you one of these. Hardships, its hardships, we're talking about, I don't know what's happening. The second story of the week. Matt, we covered this earlier, but I just have to I have to lump this in mostly because it's getting a crap ton of headlines. And I just like it pager Duty, CEO, Jennifer Tejada apologizes after quoting. Martin Luther King in layoff announcement, Okay, so for Jesse and Ari, here's the story. She laid off a bunch of people in a long-winded letter and then a few paragraphs later, she was praising her, her leadership, praising her board and she said, I'm reminded in moments, like this of something, Martin Luther, King said that the ultimate measure of a leader is not where they stand in the moments of comfort and convenience but where they stand in times of Challenge and controversy. But the best part of this is that she replaced the actual quote, from King was the ultimate Measure of a Man and she replaced that with leader to represent herself. How much does she make it? Well, that's, you know, so she's just doing this from her cushy position. That's beside the point. What? I don't do dirty. I don't tell him that here but I did read this article last week. Yeah well okay fine. But you know the way the Friday show Works Jesse is it's from Friday from last Friday to Friday. So was it last? Friday's? Yeah, because I almost included it but I I wanted to stay kind of light last Friday. So look at Jesse. Looks stamping. Her big dog feces for like talking about something that happened last night. That's because I'm an annoying person. I apologize for that. Yeah, you know. Several people have had to read this in order for this to go out. I don't believe that a CEO just writes a thing and hit, send. That is absolutely 100% the correct take. It is but there was people that thought this was like a good idea. I think that's so relevant. Topical oh my gosh, the right, if there's an investor relations team, they read it, if there's legal they usually read it HR has to read it when you're doing firing somebody, that's it, right? That's true. Even the CEO. Like even if they're just reading it for typos and unless you're the type of CEO that literally just like write stuff at 4 a.m. and writes the sends it out which most CEOs are not. So just emails me and Eli. I'm just gonna go with this. Probably got vetted too. This is like, it's not just her. Terrible. It probably the third story of the week is because no one else covers Us in the business World appropriately. So I'm gonna cover it. It's the ongoing mess that is sports, and this is the Super Bowl Edition. What he's saying, okay. He's gonna fire me up. I have no, it's not great, it's not great first. First the toxic masculinity section, Jesse. This is all out of the NFL since naughty Bengals. Joe Mixon issued arrest. Warrant for allegedly pointing gun at Women's. I guess he held a gun to a woman's head. What do you like a one game suspension or like still just issued it? So that remains to be seen and I don't think the NFL is a good truck record. If it happens like after the season, they tend to get deleted because didn't what weren't they just playing the Bengals? And that's exactly get out. Exactly true. So they probably delayed issuing it so that he could play and his game. So everyone's even worse, Jesse, one of the teams playing in the Super Bowl, Philadelphia Eagles, Reserve, lineman charged, with rape ahead of Super Bowl. Sorry, this person's plane, I hope. Okay, this is a, it's a reserve lineman. So I'm guessing they wouldn't have played anyway, they wouldn't have played anyway. Okay, but if he's on that bench, I'm pissed. Yeah. But I'm guessing that they'll they'll take the opportunity for like a good PR Movement by by suspending him because he's not an actual useful player as my guess. Yeah. If it was A star hurts or something that star quarterback of the team they out that I this, that would be the kind of thing that they would try to find a way to have him play. But they were delay, the, or just so you're right. They would delay, the announcement, or something, or the charge or some horrible thing, like that. Why isn't he fired? He's not a good player. He's charged with free. Get him off the team and make sure that nobody can put them on a team ever again and take his money away. like, Angry angry just exhausting, just he's great. Oh my God, I just better. Go going on. I'm leaving the toxic masculinity section so you can be a little bit. Really mysterious donors are paying Millions to run commercials for Jesus during the Super Bowl. I don't know if any of you have watched football recently. But there's an onslaught of. So confused onslaught of Jesus adds I just don't really get how ad spending Works in sports. You do you just put on whatever you get you just Well, that's okay. Okay. Like you just like is just like a character of the ad or this is like I got a question, does Jesus? Advertising. I don't know, Billboards on the interstate that you seems like that guy's got Market penetration already. Yeah. He's everywhere. I don't think I mean, isn't it like if you go and this country if you go and you talk to somebody about Donald Trump being like a fraudster con man like and they voted for Trump, you're just in two different camps at that point. We've weeded out in the middle. I Think Jesus Is, God is corner. It's a pretty big Corner in this country. He doesn't need ads. I'm not sure this money. Well, spent that Jesus would spend money on Jesus adds. You know, would not let me ask you this Ari. The royal family is reportedly worth 28 billion dollars in a story recovering later. How much you think Jesus is worth? If they're worth 20? Oh, wow, that's just broke my brain Charlie over four trillion at just say more than adani and India the the gore which is Gorham All right, that's what people thought of after. But I don't think this would, Jesus would condone. And finally, in The Wonderful World of Sports, the ongoing mess that is sports and everything. It represents, I just picked one random headline to tell you what, what happens in the business World of Sports Molson, Coors and DraftKings, team up to let fans bet on high stakes, Super Bowl ads. So you know, you got your alcohol and your gambling and I don't know, I mean I'm kind of just kind of tired of it all. Just kind of tired of it all. Yes, I greatly this time of year because I'm super bowl. Those are my three stories as Matt and I realized early this week, there's like there's not other than chat other than what's it called, chat Petey. There's nothing going on the business World other than that. And I refuse to talk about that. I refuse to include it in the story of the week. So I struggle a bit. So these are the three stories. I was a bit of a weird slow week. I mean the FED is slowing down. Raid increases jobs were fine. It was like econom. Wasn't like big news except from meta making lots of you know stock gains its ongoing, woke culture wars and opening and chat GT. That's looked at the two things. Dominating honestly, how much more can we talk about those two things? Can we just use them into one Mega thing and make that the rest of the year a lot of like college board? You know Florida. Yeah that's all studies. Like that's I wonder if I'm gonna lose my my degree because eventually, yeah, what was your degree? Well, to be fair my I had a minor in Black studies so I don't know, but that maybe that'll be stricken from the record because it's not real learning know. It's woke to woke. Yeah. So maybe I mean like minor from black and black Studies by a white guy at Oberlin is the will be removed. It'll be officially removed from my record because that's not actual. I think they just won't give you credit for it. If you go move to Florida, like if you apply for a job in Florida, okay? Like just cross that out their entire degree, they won't hire you'll be like, oh not this person for the for when I apply for jobs in Florida. Actually just because I think I overheard Matthew's gonna fire me. I'm Gonna Change black studies to White studies. There you go. Winning now that's just call. All right, let's go. Come on. I'll go first of course you go ahead, you know, pager Duty CEO, I don't every single time stuff like this happens, I don't understand it. I will never understand it. Isn't it black history month this month? Well, February, yeah, well, it was also. Okay, we got a couple. Of course go. Yeah. It's just this is so tone deaf. But par for the course at this point. Yeah, I greatly dislike the Super Bowl, but I think the story of the week this week. Is. Tax biggest companies, Discovery because they haven't even discovered us there already. I just love that she changed the quote to, to like represent a leader CEO, just like that, just like that. I just, I think black studies needs like a Rebrand like Jesus needs a commercial. Like, I think we would be the Rebrand. I don't, I don't quite know yet. But like, if it's getting banned in Florida to learn about like culture, right? Like if do we ban learning like Italian language like, is can you take like French anymore because that teaches you about France? Is that not? Is that woke? Or is that not American enough? I will say this that I realize that I am like squarely in the in the firings on the two things they hate most which is like teaching about black people and ESG, like how did I land you directly? What happened to me? What's wrong with red? That needle baby? Yes, I believe you didn't include how hard of a time when I bury in her having in Texas. and Florida getting books for their school library said, no, yeah, it's like By this time, you know, in a normal year, they would have ordered 2000 books or something like that and they have ordered 20 because of pressing all this stuff going on. Actually, it's funny because they now have to read all the books to figure out which ones should be banned. Nobody wants to do that. So there's gonna be all the books. Yeah. Just been all the books. Anyone else want to vote? It's not a fun list here. Jesse Jesse. You got riled up about the message. Yeah I guess I'm gonna have to vote Super Bowl only because I like that we're talking about it because nobody here is about all of these players doing shity stuff and they get away with it and they get paid millions of dollars. And there are very little repercussion, very few repercussions, very little accountability. And it's fucked up because just because it's entertaining. Like I'm sorry, find something else. That's entertaining. Yeah, the thing that always triggers me to is like black studies. Yeah, come on. Something that will actually be beneficial for our society and World. Come on. The thing that's super triggers me to these days. Is that? No one can afford to go to sports anymore. That's the part that irritates me, the most. And, and yet and yet. See what are you doing? Are you? And yet, if you're buying Sports tickets, you're already out. And yet. They're handing out 300 300 million dollars, guaranteed to people to people like to show and Watson. I was I went um Courtney my wife wanted to bring the girls to go see Beyonce in concert and the the starter tickets were 2000 dollars per ticket. Yeah, that's another. Another issue. Another thousand dollars for one ticket and then I'll take it. That's an actual retail. That's like the opening Facebook value. Like, like that was the resale tickets because there are, no, you get the like, face value tickets because everything crashes. So, I actually went to go buy. Boston, Celtics tickets for this weekend and the cheapest seats, I could find were 250 dollars a ticket really? And that was like, in the nosebleeds. That was like, I'm sitting on top of the garden, right? Like not inside outside on top of the roof of the garden with like binoculars looking through a window on the Roof. Yeah, I honestly don't fight because it's so cold. I just don't understand that the sports industry anymore. I'm really honestly because it used to. It used to be for regular people like you know, but I don't really understand it anymore. Frankly and the worst part is when they have, you know, like a basketball games. If you make this boss basket, you will get a full scholarship because college is so expensive and nobody can afford it and they make a show out of it. Oh, I would be funny though. If it was like you can have health care. That would be women that can make a half. Court shot, can get an abortion right up. Let's not forget, we covered a story here. We're at a sports game as a hockey game. They made teachers Scramble for dollar bills blown in a tank for school supplies. Yes, Jesse. That's true. Absolutely true. That actually happened. Yeah. Sure happened. Um, and then they apologized afterwards and still only apologize because of the outrage, not because he's so I'm gonna vote with pagerduty mostly. So Damien, has to break the vote? I want. I want to go. So I'm gonna go with quoting MLK about yourself. Let while laying off your workers, I'm going to I'll break the tie with the just because it is the Super Bowl. We gonna break the tie with the sports stuff mostly because this is the first time I think that Jesse acted like a human being and really oh that jet went off. Like they're encouraging my rage. Yeah, I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the race mostly. Yeah. Like that his version of you as a human being is you angry about Injustice in the system. That's you know version of you know it is she's closer to her camera. She's lost the goofy headphone. She's really like come alive. I think there's there's a transformation happening. I'm she's very excited to go back into our office. We haven't figured out the tech to do this in our office yet. So we're all at home. All right. Well, that's that's the story of the week where the only once again the only business news platform talking about anything important. All right, data queen goodly, as of the week, I'm so excited. Bringing everybody back with the music baby. Here we go. I'm already disappointed Amsterdam. Introduces underwater, garage, that fits no cars. At first. I read this and I thought it was going to be one of those like, Horribly. Construction gone horribly hardly just like forgot to measure the thickness of. I don't know, the floors in between things, so no cars could drive on it. Look at everything right there. I was ready for that. But no, this underwater garage is entirely devoted to bicycles and it will fit 11,000 bicycles. That's insane. Doesn't seem like that. That's pretty cool. I mean they are already have garages so this is an addition they already. Do have. Here's my question. You know, how it's like I mean maybe this is just me but you know how to kind of hard to find your car in a garage. Imagine like 11,000 bikes. Finding your hey, bye. Have you been, how have you seen these biker Rogers, Jesse know, do they okay? There's, there's multi tears, too. It's not just one terrified. But let me tell you Dutch. People are eerily efficient. So they know where everything is, they they don't lose stuff like we do it. Take a picture of the post that I parked, it just know. But yeah. So this is another one's obviously where bicycles outnumber citizens and 35% of people in Amsterdam used by bicycle every day. Oh, insanely jealous 35% every day. Damien there are Some cities where it is closer to 50%, maybe they walk the other times. I don't know. I do love me some Amsterdam, but the one thing I will always say about these stories about bikes is that there's no Hills there. So come on, it's a little, you know, it's a little easy. Actually, there are there any bikes for that? That's true Ari. I want to see more ebucks, you're right. All right. That's good. I know that's Amsterdam. Does not exactly excite my math. That known this. That it's the story of this week is a little weird but yeah. Okay it is. It is the goodest of this week? Yeah. I'll tell you man. It was low on the list of, you know I collect like thousands of headlines. It was very it was at the bottom of the list. So I think Ari just saw it first. I couldn't find any other good stuff. So this is my second one. EU sets out green industry deal to take on us and China. Well I like this you leaders are concerned that the 3609 billion dollar. Dollars set aside for green subsidies in the US will encourage companies to relocate. The International Energy agency estimates that the global market for mass-produced clean, energy stuff will triple to 650 billion dollars a year by 2030 and manufacturing jobs will double. So the European commission was like hey we need to get it on this. They want to be part of the Net Zero economy and they have proposed. Increasing money to make it more attractive. The EU would simplify regulation. They were recruit and up skill more workers and they would secure raw materials through trade agreements. This is they're just trying to keep up good. I like this so much better than race to the bottom of, you know, us southern states that are like nobody pay taxes here, our schools can be shity, just so you can come here. Seems like the opposite. Returning to pod, save America, I between Jessie and Ari, right? I think somebody somebody needs some cocaine. I'm just, it was gonna be angsty. I'm just patiently waiting for the last story. That's very excited about, maybe we need to, like, maybe our internal fires are getting ready because of the cold weather. Keep us warm. I'm gonna blanket, myself and rage keep your arms every night Jesse. Yeah, you're describing to England. Just it's just, like, rage and sarcasm. Keep us warm that this whole show. Anyway, love that for the EU. Come on get to the good stuff. Come on. Get three. Yeah. Sushi terrorism. Is spreading as pranksters lick food utensils, in Japan can conveyor belt restaurant. That's why, is that good? I like that. How you gonna spin it? It cracked me up, like, he's trolls, you know. It's just stuff, but I could just picture the Baby Boomers of Japan. Who owned these restaurants going out of their minds which, you know? rightfully so, but still I just I just like thinking of people like, sitting down next to a conveyor belt and every fear I have is an adult with my kids touching shit licking shit. It's real. I well I feel like all my fears are founded because some jerk is sitting there. They pick up the plate, they lick it and they put it back and then they Giggle and that's like what parents who have kids worried about like fingers in their mouths or worried about this, is it and the fact that they called it Sushi terrorism, this really aligns with Matt, like this really, what is terrorizing terrorist act? It's a terrorist act. I'm surprised these things still exist. They hear me Belt? Sushi hat. We had one in West Hartford I did. Yeah, that's a point. And yeah, clearly, it's where people probably stole from it. I would never care. I did go there, didn't, you told me, but essentially wipe out salad bars though in the US. Like I feel like most of that food out in the open is gone. I'm surprised it's a Japanese story. Later that's gonna tell you that America's not. Yeah, and I will say that Japan's had to kind of a patchy response to covid. General. Like they haven't really done a great job, so it doesn't surprise me that people are licking food and restaurants and then I gathered from the conveyor belt restaurant thing, is that it is an affordable option for sushi in Japan. Yeah, not anymore. That's actually get E coli. Well, maybe you get some probiotics from someone else's belly? Yeah, I was gonna say you could get some beneficial bacteria. Yeah. Microbiome says, he needs to bring her own water into our office. She's a tap water. Like, who wants to vote is the week? Come on. I mean, those are the options. Take it. There's really only two options, really? Yeah. There's the green industry deal for the EU and Sushi terrorism. There's other one, is not even in the one that drive too. And that's cool. So cool I was gonna say this and would say this straight up. The correct answer is EU sets out great industry deal. But however, I am definitely voting Sushi terrorists. Wait to tell us the correct answer until we've all voted? Yeah, let us know first. Now there's no point. Well, what do you see? I voted for the other one. So you I am voting for The Green industry deal. That's correct. That's correct answer, that's fine. On demon. You like the Dutch there. Yeah Damien's got like the Dutch but he's like a semi Dutch, a file. But this one's a little, I don't know. I mean, they've been doing this for forever. They're cool pictures. It's cool pictures. It's cool pictures. I don't know. It's looks so futuristic. Like, imagine if if like, Times like the Times Square subway station, looks like that. That'd be so cool. Imagine the time scorers. Okay, underwater, like, how would that work? Well, you know, you know? Nobody can see a picture, right? Like, it's a podcast. I have to I was a tough one, because I know Jesse's, right? But I do like this. I'll just be offended. I'll just go Sushi terrorism here. Yeah, either one is the is a good call. The correct answer is EU and you don't know why when we need some levity in our worlds and I like the idea people never gonna get that headline again. That's that's why you pick it the EU deal is going to exist in perpetuity. All right, speaking of food Liquors. Awesome the week, Matt McCarthy, come on. Yeah, my turn. Okay, there's four here and I have a lot of work to pick these. Yeah, there's a caveat here so I didn't think Matt was joining us in. I picked these, I wasn't supposed to be here, so Damien picked them all. So these are damaged assholes of the week as read by Matt mascardi. First up King, Charles pledges 1.95 million in donations to seven causes close to his heart. The Charis trust is the group that will receive a grant of 300,000 dollars. To support the work, they do representing and campaigning on behalf of 7 million people in the UK who have forced to become unpaid carers, driving them into poverty. They get 300,000 dollars. So cute. Right. That's a big donation, wait a minute, wait a minute 7 million 300,000 pounds, so the conversion is a little bit, a lot more than it sounds like. But worth noting that King Charles is worth four million dollars in the Royal Family's worth 28 billion bill. Where is Mackenzie Scott? Would Mackenzie Scott managed to give more than six dollars to somebody and said solve poverty. The one that's the thing that strikes me about this is that they I don't know why. Press release this stuff. I don't really. I maybe giving attention to the, the donate to the companies to the organization that you're doing to is fine, but you can give attention to them without telling them that you donated. I don't, I don't know why the king, Maybe they have to Pat himself on the back, I don't know. I just, I just find it a little bit awkward, it's awkward to me. I actually I should say and because if it was my research, I would have figured out. Charles is liquid. Net worth not his net worth because most of their money is just building's that they land that they owned included, gonna sell that to Matt, including the property that they, the Twitter headquarters in San Francisco owned by the. That's right. Charles, he's their landlord that's correct and they're not paying him for it. So he's there you go. He's dipping deep to give that one point nine million. Yeah, so I love that. The king is only worth 400 million. Oh yeah, compared to the 20 billion dollars at the families worth. He's, he's a nobody, his own family true. He is, he's mediocre. I mean, we all knew that. All right. Number two, that's why she hung on for 400 years. The world is dangerously. Unprepared to handle the next pandemic. The Red Cross says, in scathing report, I don't like this Sushi terrorists. I don't like this one at all. I mean, how do we do this for two years? And still don't have an idea how to do it right next time. Well, I don't understand. Is that governments usually like like they like Wars because they can spend, you know, defense spending goes up, it's good for business. Why not just overspend in this area and have it be good for business? Like what? What's the problem? I mean, just start piles about money. This country doesn't believe there was a pandemic. That's true. I don't really get it like you to prove that things happen for real, but the Red Cross in this article is not just talking about the US, they're talking about the world. Yeah, well that's the problem. If you just talking about this country I'd get it. But we're talking about the world and, you know, in this country we don't believe black people exist and or are black or have experienced is we don't believe that, you know, climate change is real. We don't believe pandemics are real, so I get it in this country but everywhere else. Come on people. Let's We this is a just one actually is the asshole of the week and I haven't even read the other two. Next up. A Chick-fil-A restaurant, traffic got so bad that City officials, ordered it to be demolished and plan to build a new drive through only location. So, traffic was so bad that they're going to build a new one where only only cars can visit it. No dining. I like that'll solve the problem like that. Like we've solved the problems. Our problem was that people were begging to sit in the Chick-fil-A. This Is Us infrastructure spending at its best mind blowing I don't know what the Dutch Amsterdam they would they would say not good things but I do like that they demolished it. So for a little while anyway there's no chicks they're gonna be a few months where he's like great six months of no Chick-fil-A. Yeah, that's the real win. And then last A meta exec warns philanthropy and worker perks can create a drag on the company. Quote, you must be willing to focus and prioritize, and that executive is actually already famous for saying shity things. It's bars. Is that right? Yeah, Andy Bosworth. He said he misses the days when the company was more focused. And not so filling Tropic and, or focused on what workers hugging each other. I guess, just focus on, like dumping money into fail, metaverse projects, because, no, no, that's what he misses. He misses those days and a blog post, he called out the firm's philanthropy and works is areas that could create drag. It's not clear. How much meta actually donates every year or how many people or actually doing the donating and the chair. That's what we don't have the actual data about that. Yeah and they met a did not deign to respond to when asked for comments. So never heard of this philanthropy from meta or Facebook or whatever. Yeah. What are they mean like that one day of the year where the workers like build a shed for Habitat for Humanity or something like that? Have to Take it down and rebuild it correctly. That's probably true. That, yeah. You don't want your workers to like bond together and have pizza together. That's creates drag, probably on know, I really dragged. I've never heard of it, you know, like you hear of like multiple things that Microsoft does for philanthropy fine like even Amazon the Amazon smile thing that ran for however many years only stopped. Yeah, I know I ever, I will say this, I think this is coded woke culture wars, I think the pushback against all this is is code for, you know, the woke part of America is getting away with too much. Like we're we're carrying too much. We're, we're giving too much, we're too diverse. You know, I think this is all code for that. Well, at one point Bosworth and this might tip the scales for asshole of the week. He wrote a memo about growth at all costs in 2018. He was the one who said our mission is to grow at all costs. Whatever the cost and in the memo said something to the. Here's a quote, here's two quotes back to back. Maybe someone finds love, maybe it saves a life of someone, on the brink of suicide, we connect more people. And then goes on to say maybe it costs a Life by exposing someone to bullies, maybe someone dies in a terrorist attack coordinated on our tools, it doesn't matter. The ugly truth is that we believe in connecting people, so deeply that, anything that allows us to connect more people is more often a defective good. So we can blow up people. We can coordinate election fraud but it's worth it because we're growing and connecting. That's that was, and could very well be the next CEO of meta because eventually, it's gonna step down. I mean, just 30 years old. He's got 30 more years of this, and he's the dual-class dictator, so he would step down, he's just gonna sit on the board, but soon, he's gonna own all of Hawaii. So, he's probably gonna be there like, fat Invaders, Yeah, that's true. So those are your options. You've got three options. They're not that complicated today. It is King Charles giving a press releasing 1.95 million dollar donation, 300,000 of which goes to solve poverty in the UK. I shouldn't laugh, but it is a little funny. The world is dangerously unprepared for the next pandemic. Thank you. Sushi, Liquors Chick-fil-A gets demolished but because there was so much traffic that they're going to turn it into a massive drive-through. Don't worry, you get more trucks and meta executive. Andy Bosworth says that things like perks and charity at the company. Created drag on Focus before we vote. What does that mean? Create a drag. What is that? Ah, what do you mean? Like drag like your car? It's like oh for where you're going. It's slowing down profit figure out if that's actually like a financial term because I don't know. That's what I was asking. Like it's like if you're in a boat and you're going in the boat or you drop the anchor and you go with the anchor down. That's good for your muscles though. But it, I have a rowing machine here and when I increase the drag, it's actually it's good for me, it's like it creates what you have, go to a charity event together and see. Okay. And what about Ari? Yeah, I'll go first because you know, like you said, Jamie and philanthropy and worker perks that is a wolf whistle right there. Obviously, worker perks. That's maternity leave. That's parental. Leave Yeah. Right philanthropy right. King Charles putting out pressers about 1.0 dollars in donations, and they were not going to one point. Tell us how much money they've donated. They've never donated anything. All right, I love it. I think you should end every number with 0.0. I like, you'll never be wrong. Fives. Just so ridiculous. He might as well have donated three dollars. Anyway, so what Matt. Okay, that's a good. That's a good one here. Matt was leading the, the jury here with that extra quote there from Bosworth about being, it's okay, if you know, I told you tip the bullies create suicides but yeah, Jesse you have a yeah, I'm choosing meta. Oh, really, okay. Gets me to be honest. I didn't think it would go that way so easily. I'm doesn't my vote doesn't matter. I love The Geniuses North Carolina, whose solution for the traffic problem at a at a gay hating, fast food, chicken place that has become so popular that that their solution to to the traffic flow. Problem is to create more traffic flow. By adding drive to Lanes, by making it even more of a destination. I just like that. I just think it's great. It is so confusing. me that people are like, but the Chickens. I'm like you really are supporting this place like but the chicken so good but other places have good chicken. Well, I'm probably weird. Yeah. That Chicken. Is that much of a turn like we need chicken that badly. That we are willing to snarl traffic demolish buildings. Hate gays like I mean it is a chick. Have you seen a chicken? There's yeah there's a lot of chickens. And it's just chicken. Yeah, I don't know if I'm proud or or sad to report this. Jesse that I did. I, my daughter made me go one time. Oh, I wanted to taste the chicken. I wanted to see was all about, it's okay. Okay. It luckily for me it's really not that interesting or good. It's not like I think I've said in the on the show before many times I'm a Popeyes fan. Oh, Chick-fil-A Chick-fil-A is terrible. But here's the weird thing is that we have a new Chick-fil-A in Maine. Unfortunately, it's the only one in Maine and it's, it's in the parking. Lot of a Market Basket, right? But there's more people in the drive through Lane for this horrible, gay hitting chicken, then the supermarket. I just don't understand. I don't understand America, I don't understand anything about chicken. It's chicken people. And there was a pandemic and kind of changed his real John pandemic, climate change. Let's move on, I want to feel exhausted now. All right, let's do it because we're not exhausted already. Let's get more exhausted. Good. All right, I'm actually gonna piggyback off Matt here because my first exhausting Story of the week is efficiency evangelists. Like I thought that we were turning a corner here and realizing that rest is important and like necessary. Maybe that's just in my own bubble over here. But I thought as a society we were like, okay productivity is cool and all but we have to balance it out with rest but no apparently not and Mark Zuckerberg Zuckerberg and that very clear during a call with Wall Street analysts. When he said his new push for efficiency in 2023 is inspired by how much better the company seemed to perform in the wake of November Mass. Layoffs and other movies like closing the office. This This is earning him, the title of Chopper and chief. oh, yeah, I like Like those Facebook offices down and laid off people. Or did they just closed? They closed the office in New York City. They closed the one in Dublin. I think they call it closed a few. I just like the idea that like, if I fired Ari, Jesse would work harder. And I like that. She will for like a week. I mean, you only do it for like, you do it because the reason why you're working harder is a, you still have the job and be, you have to do Ari's job now. Like, I don't like who have. They also just stopped sending out like has their HR team. Stop sending out the employee surveys where they measure other things like morale and happiness. Because like the teams very nearsighted like we are only looking at productivity and I thought that we were that our companies were taking a more holistic approach but apparently that's dragged want to reset. Yeah, one of recession happens, we get rid of Of all the fluff and fringe benefits that were one just point important. Here's why none of that matters at a company like meta. Because all those reports go to one man's desk. He's the entire company. He just doesn't care about any of these reports. I wish that literally everybody would quit like that would be so epic. I know it would never happen because he has people like Bosworth working for him that are clearly as crazy as he is. But I wish that like, literally everyone which, I mean, look, free floats, hiring and by hiring, I mean, we would like you to work for us for free because we have no money. We could hire point. Oh, oh. Oh one percent of the, yeah, I think that might actually be high must be steep. Um, anyways, I have another thing to add to this Amazon. Of course, Amazon is adding about a 1000 robots a day. If you compare the number of robots, Amazon has to the number of employees, it's about a third. And they believe that by 2030, they'll have more robots than employees. Well, they have to because the turnover on actual humans is too high for them to keep up. That's exactly right. They did a study that showed that, if Amazon's turnover stayed, what it was that it imply, they would employ the entire human population by like, 2025 or something. It was like, I wonder if these leaders have thought about what it's gonna be like to be around robots. Like, they just don't want human interaction. That's not what they care about. It's just like only productivity and And financial. I don't know this. I just seems crazy. I would not go into the office if there were robots. Instead of you too. I might actually might be entitled. I mean it's not that is not like you walk in the office in like there's like you know, the robot I know but I love you're having fewer people. So there are It's just going to just all be automated and there will be what one person robots. Don't need pea bottles. That's that's what it comes down to, whatever. I'm exhausted this exhausts me. I thought that we were valuing rest a little more as a society but apparently not. What else? What else is exhausted? You just your psychology is being hacked by online retailers. They're losing side, tricks and marketing tools to get consumers to make more purchases. Okay, how discounts and exchange for your phone number? Have you seen that being a thing? I've done that you That you're pretty Frugal. So that doesn't surprise me. You get like 10 15% off to get our phone number? Just, yeah, I know. Do you get annoyed when you get spam? I don't care. I just delete it. I just know routinely. I borrowed her now, routinely with companies, I go right to the chat. I asked for coupon codes. I asked for coupons. I mean, automatic chat, thank you. And I and I tell you, it's successful like 95, do you just? Well, I will say, I've Googled before, like promo code, but I'm not thought to go right talk to them directly. I actually there's there is there was a story years ago called the nice guy discount where um now and I do this now all the time since I read it, when you're in any transaction especially like your buying a phone or like it up Comcast or something like that, just say hey look I I know you don't you know, have to do this but I'm gonna Nice guy. You're a nice person. You want to give me 10% off? Yeah it works and it works. Stop. They're like I can't give you 10% off but I can give you this other thing and then you get something bananas. Trust me my God. Okay. Will you have to be willing to do it? You gotta be whiter and male or just do that, okay? The other ways Apple pay making it really easy. Buy now pay later, buy online, pick up in store. Knowing that when you go in store, you're gonna add more. You are gonna see. I wouldn't do that. I wouldn't do that Target. Oh, I can see people at Target going crazy with that. I would never buy. Now pay later, I would never do that. Well, no, you should never we've covered that now. So I don't even get past the first part scarcity. Some some places are showing how many units they have left. Oh, that gets me like time frames items held, you know like um Ticketmaster will let you like hold seats or the tickets for like a limited time so that you off to Like make a rush decision and then we know, we know, social proof because we've got, you know, ratings obviously but then you have your influence. We know are both influencer marketing making. Yeah we know. We're bulshit. Yeah yeah so I mean this Mom I guess this isn't really a weekly specific thing but it's pretty it's exhausting. It is exhausting. Yeah just to it. It's a god it's exhausting it. And your category is a bit different. Doesn't have to be necessarily timely because it's a slow build up to get to exhaustion. This is just when you're exhausted. When you get exhausted by something, it's just so much. Yeah. It's just too much and you know this actually affects people don't know. This is going on like that's what's crazy is. We don't realize that well and all. So we're getting targeted all the time. So you like so hard to say. Now you go on Instagram on a night and you're feeling weak and you get the targeted at and it's luminated. Supplies limited time and you're like this is that you're not just that your evening everything you just said you might as well have been speaking. Another language I don't know. Don't forget this thing in your car. Here's a guy that's true. Don't just come on. Get to the good one. I'm excited for your last. Come on. Okay, my last story. Can we all just stop drinking bleach? Like really why convinced me? So apparently apparently I'm gonna have a sip right now. You go on to Amazon and instead of browsing what they're recommending. You type in Miracle Mineral Solution. So apparently, we're all so ill. I mean, not apparently, we're all so ill in this country. Now, we're looking for Miracle Solution. So we're typing it, we're going to our favorite search engine and we're typing in Miracle Mineral Solution, and you'll see that there's a wide selection of products that online, reviewers say, cure everything from asthma to arthritis. The problem is that, The Cure All potion, commonly known as MMS is in essence Industrial. Grade bleach and people are drinking. This is this is serious. Yeah, so my question is who is leaving the reviews? How were there? So many, how are they alive to leave them please toxic I'm definitely concerned by this one. It's like the Sequel, pod. I just I know that we Can maybe Ari's coming from already be fair. The Tide Pods do look yummy. So I get that one. Get that. Yeah. The bleach doesn't feel they look yummy. Oh look, delicious text, like the, you know, the horse like that. You just want to bite into it, I get it. No all. So the smell they must be masking it with even more chemicals, because like, no one smells bleach. And it's like, oh, I want to take a sip of this so pressing us. Jesse, you're such a teetotaler, the active ingredient in this is methyl sulfonyl methane, something like that. Okay, it's delicious with broccoli. The ingredients in the one I'm looking at right now is a proprietary formula of MSM distilled water and vitamin C and it says uses a food supplement at his five drops to eight ounces of water once a day or as directed by your Healthcare professionals. So they had some cells. Yeah. All so quote Safe to use in the eyes. Oh I just put it in your eyes. Your dad in your blind, you're blind, man, you're dead. Matt are you just describing board? Saber metrics isn't that basically what we sell? I do say it's safe to take your board saber metrics in your eyes directly in your eyeballs. see like honestly really, really I feel like this would only happen in our country. I don't even feel sorry for these people anymore I used to um, wow. I mean it says no Direction. Here's the first top review. No directions for use in. I Those somebody immediately wanted to know. How do I put this in my eyes? It's, I don't. But here's discomfort resolved in a few days, it would you useful for pain relief improved my night vision? Night vision actually have some trouble driving at night. It, I'm on my third bottle, as it helped my floaters dry your eyes and possible corneal Clarity. Um, stop this. Yeah, I'm not kidding good for joints. And then the next top reviews from other countries, not the United States no improvement in floaters. Item is not same as shown doesn't work. What I receive was fake and that's what so it's only in this country. How does everybody know about it? I don't know. This this only has, um, let's see the 2979 reviews. That's a lot. Yeah, because that's not the number of people that bought it, right? That's the number of people that reviewed it. That's four point three stars out of five. Okay. See, this is it's insane. Yeah, those are your three options. They're all exhausting, take your Peck. I am so exhausted. By how companies? How I fall for marketing from companies. Selling me crap. Oh wow. That really exhausted me because I know it too, and I know I'm doing it. I know they're doing it and we're both just, it's divisive like, hello, just create something, good enough, where you don't need to be divisive. Please. Absolutely shit, but I'm gonna say that this mmsm Ms. Whatever it is, is miracle, cure, I'm gonna say that this is amazing. I, it's not exhausting. It's like it is you. Look, these are the reason why just people trying to get rid of their germs inside their body, so. Okay? It's shut up. This is the reason why humanity is Bound for failure. I loved every minute of it. I just don't understand why they're the the right, the Republican party in general. Why are they always killing their constituents? Why, how was this is a conservative thing? You know, the, the boxers were split with the far left in the Far-right. It's like the bleach thing was squarely. Rooted in the in the this isn't bleach. This is some other thing that doesn't sound like please bleach, Okay, the reason why I said that matters because when I clicked on the product, they're clearly making a patriotic play. There's a picture of a woman holding the flag, and it says, Made in the USA. Yeah, but yeah, I love that. This is this. Is clearly not. Like, marketed to people of color because there is a person holding the flag. Everyone is white and blue eyes. Yeah? Right. Blue eyes. Oh, every one of them white with blue eyes. Um, well made in America lab tested. It says lab tested, but it was lab tested for Purity and potency. Not for Effectiveness, if we asked for the lab test, the lab results, they would not. I just love everything. This is an exhausting to me. I I hope this is a funny Trend that continues. Oh God, I just buy this. It says put in some water safe for your eyes. The first review is, how do I put it in my eyes? He's a straw. All right, that's already. I think Matt's already voted. I'm voting for efficiency evangelists, that is awesome. That's really exhausting. How do I put it in? My eyes is pure comedy gold. I'm all about him. Online retailers. Really yeah. Surprised by that one. They target me, hard. Damien, you have to break a tie here. So by stopped drinking. I want to sound effect. This is, how do I put it in my eyes? I want, I want to hear Jesse's point of view here. I'll just I'll vote for the bleach and let Jesse break the time. Angela. That is the correct answer. Yes. That's the week. That is the week. It was Scott feels I'm. I am exhausted now, but we won. The who won. Who won. Matt, you go first. Um, the soft Landing one. Anybody, anybody anybody can miss the FED, they softly, they won the soft Landing. That's everyone's talking about the soft Landing. We're not gonna have a recession, we're gonna have a soft Landing. Everything that socks are up stocks are up, everyone's feeling better about the economy, again, the FED again. It's all one. How um, Michael burry just dropped the mic on Twitter and said sell and then left. Yeah, we talked about that yesterday. Here said, he says, he always says that he's saying that he's doing. He's Twitter every six months and after saying something like that and and not only that, but nobody's talking about the like millions of workers that got laid off so much as we're in a soft Landing, it's gonna be fine. It's everybody's fine. I'm gonna change. My vote, I had a similar who won the week. I'm suddenly, I'm gonna change my boat to Jesse's microphone for being like the hottest microphone in a while. It's good today, it's picking up all of her, every breath salutations. I'm really enjoying. I the only The only thing. I would change my vote for is put it in my eyes. That's the only thing I changed my vote for it's now I didn't know that was gonna be a story so I wrote this before but put it in my eyes would be even better as winning the week anyway what else? Have a winner, I think South West to naming a woman as a Chief Information officer to come clean up the mess Okay, and deadly who will end up winning? And that's that's not gonna go on the record because it's not actually not in the document so we can't count that one. Yeah. Do you have one? Yeah, I said we but I guess I should clarify Ari Matt. And I because we have an office. Yeah, but really, it's only re because the two of you are not in the office, looks like not currently, but that's just because the tech isn't there yet? But the offices and we're all working out of it. That's where our predictions. I'll go first as a law of Music, we all predictions. Yeah, Matt has a big meeting today with a with a VC dude who's afraid of the cold? I predict that Matt says the word bro dude guy Ace poison disrupt monetized pipeline pivot platform. A combined 495 times. That's my prediction. It's gonna happen. I'm not gonna say I don't like pivot. No pivots. I think Matt's gonna come back with 10 million dollars not gonna break Ticketmaster, which means Took a master's gonna think they're awesome but they're not, and they have killed live music for my generation. The two of those together action was like combined, Ari the combined and, you know, he's not going anywhere. Now, I predict that I will be able to be. I will be able. I was gonna say, well not, but I would say, I'm gonna say change it to will. I will be able to figure out the tech in our office. Jesse, I predict, we all survived this weekend. Losing no more than one toe or finger to frostbite. That's correct. Is that the four of us or know? There will be one toe or finger amongst the 40? Oh, that's terrible. That's amazing. I'm scared. That's perfect. That's it. That's the end of the week. We'll be back next week until then goodbye.
